Beane is a bat

'Bout 10 PM we'll throw up the Bean Bat Signal and the Bills spending begins...

Keeping in mind the needed extensions for Dawkins/Tre/Milano and the fact that we’d pay to pay Ngakoue $20-22 million per season and will cost at least a second round pick, trading for him seems prohibitive.

However, the Diggs trade and our other moves combined with Brady leaving the AFC has sped up our timeline. And in my opinion, Ngakoue is about as sure of a bet as you’d ever find in free agency. He’s young, productive, and is a good guy on and off the field. His salary could be offset to a decent extent by cutting Murphy this year and Star next year (since we signed Butler).

What are your thoughts guys? Would Ngakoue put us over the top and make us a top 3 AFC team (Chiefs and Ravens) or is the cost in draft capital/cap space too much?

We have $40M this season and $98 in space next year - we are fine with cap space!

I like to imagine Carolina signed John Miller in a feeble attempt to get back at Beane for all the former Panthers he's poached.  It's just a 1 year deal, so we might see him back in Buffalo in 2021.  Wouldn't that be something?

Are we sure that $40M accounts for everyone? I didn’t think Butler, Jefferson, etc.. we’re accounted for

Based on the Butler, Jefferson and Taiwan estimates, the Bills are closer to $24million. Still enough to handle $20million on Ngakoue, but that would end our FA.

And also cancel out extensions for Dawkins, Milano, and Tre.

Oh I'm not sure where those fall - that was as of earlier this am...

Down to $37 and Jefferson, Jones, Klein & Matakevich are not their yet

Not sure we know the structures. If we do go Edge, Murphy is a gonner

Darius Slay?

Interesting since they saw a lot of each other as division rivals.

Lions save almost 10.5M if he's traded. Last year of his deal, so salary could be converted in an extension to lower his 2020 cap hit from that $10.5M.

If we get Slay then it would be safe to say they are all in imo. We would easily have the best defensive backfield in the league and it's not even close.

There's smoke.  But maybe not Buffalo...

"A second-round pick out of Mississippi State in 2013, Slay has indicated he wants a new deal that will make him among the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL, whether it's from the Lions or another team."

If we get Slay...we can start talking legitimate best defense in the NFL.  Especially if Oliver takes a big 2nd year step and Addison lives up to his contract....bad things man.

Bills still have a big need at corner. With Harris signing in SD, they need to find someone.

“Big need” is a bit excessive IMO

it could be upgraded but our DB’s and the depth is just fine if this is what they go forward with.

If the Bills trade for Slay or Ngaekou at thos point they will be doing the exact opposite of what they say they build on. Draft, Develop, keep and build a team not just a collection of talent.

Don't think that's happening here.

Who says they still aren't going to do that?  We have the money to spend, why not spend it wisely where you can still sign your own?  We don't have a QB salary to worry about yet.

They will have a ton of money next year as well so they'll get Milano, White and Dawkins signed either this year or next.

Yeah no way we could have the #1 and #2 paid corner on one roster paid roughly the same time.

None of the recent FAs have signed longer than 3 year deals.  Most are on 2 year deals.  Beane has excelled in adding help on 1yr prove it contracts and then move on

Star and Morse are really the anomalies.
