I hate it when all the Experts Pick us to WIN.

Recommended Posts

It sucks when all the experts pick us to win. First it was the Patriots in New England. The Upset Bird was hovering everything and Bills faithful were ready to finally get the monkey off their back.  Then we storm into Houston with all the experts betting on the dog again. And we lay a doberman size turd in the 4th quarter to crush the bets and the hearts of Bills fans everywhere.

It seems when everyone gets high on the Bills, we somehow reach a new low. I hope next year is not that "This is the Bills year" with the national media. I think the Bills do better in the underdog, chip on their shoulder role.

I still haven't had the heart to watch the All-22 or the replay of this game yet, but have been dissecting everyone's comments all week.  It sucks to be talking draft and FA's when we should be talking about the Chiefs.   I honestly think we would have had a shot. Mahomes hasn't been the same with his injury. I think we'd lose but wouldn't get blown out. Probably 27-20 or something like that.

You’d rather they gave us no respect and picked us to lose every week? Isn’t that what everyone bashed the media for? Now we are complianting they pick us to win? It’s hard keeping up sometimes.

Sometimes I wonder if fans here really want to be a good team. Seems like some have trouble handling the national attention.

Good teams get hype and picked to play the nationally televised and prime time games. I like that.

I don’t miss being the bad team that was mocked and got nothing but 1pm games.

Of course I want us to win, but when every national outlet seems to be on the bandwagon, we come up short.

I'd rather have the Bills win and the media be wrong than the media loving us and then we lose.

Pretty confused by your post here. From what i recall, most of the so called experts picked the Texans to win. Not by a huge amount, i'd say it was probably 60-40 Texans. I know some who have been with us as a dark horse candidate picked us like Schein or Robinson. But even people like Chris Simms who is pro Josh Allen & pro Bills picked the Texans over us. Even the betting line was Texans favored by 3.5 points. Mostly because they had the quote "better QB" & were at home.

I also don't see that game as a new low either. We played tough & played an exciting game that went deep into OT & back & forth. Us being there was a surprise to lots of people if you look where we came from at the start of the year. Our young QB & team keeps growing & with $90 million in cap space we'll keep doing that & be ready to take the next step

There cannot be another fanbase that is more obsessed with "the national media" thinks of the team.

There's a kernel of truth here, although it's largely just a "feeling."

"Experts" are generally in line with what the betting public is thinking, and when the betting PUBLIC likes the Bills, it usually doesn't go well.

From my view point as a sportsbook ticket writer, the REALLY good teams win/cover even when everyone is on them.

Every pregame show I watched all the hosts picked the bills to win. I knew at that moment that we were gonna lose.

Would it have been better to get the Super Bowl hype the Browns were getting?

I’m good with our “process progress”. Learn to win the Big Game with our young core group of guys. Take the next step next year!

This is what I was getting at. Thanks for the reply. We just seem to fold up when the chips are all-in on the Bills. I really hope next years team can overcome that and take the next step. The schedule looks tough and if we pull out 10 wins, that would be successful. 10 wins might even win the AFC East next year, like 9 did for the Eagles this year. I just think the AFC East will be closer with everyone in the division going from 6-10 to 10-6.

It only matters in the sense that players are well aware of who the experts pick and can use it as a motivating factor.

I hear you OP and Bills were the better team for the majority of the game , heartbreaking loss but with the majority of the team coming back , tons of cap room , going to be a great learning experience for guys like Allen, Edmunds , Oliver etc.

They'll be back next year. Get ready for meaningful Jan football for years to come

as opposed to missing the playoffs all those years and being a mess of an organization? I prefer this

This was a game where the Bills were actually the more consistent team, and actually better on paper.  forget all the errors and catastrophic mistakes during the game for a minute and look at that bogus blindside block called against Ford.  They'd have been all correct as I was certain the Bills were going to win that game after Josh's run.  When you factor in all the things the Bills do right, and all the potential bad things Josh is capable of, this game still comes down to the BIlls winning, except of course when the refs pull a bone job like that call.

I tell you this, this flex to nationally televised Night or Saturday game BS really undermines my Sunday ticket subscription value.

That last sentence is key.

I'm not sure I get the premise of the thread.  Are we supposed to be underdogs all the way to the Super Bowl?  What about the next year?  Would no one pick a Super Bowl winner to win the next season?  Are we only allowed to be good one year?

Can you please relay this to our players, it would be sincerely appreciated. There are some high-level meetings you can attend to help get this monkey off our back. Also, talk to McD about his fear of Bellicheck. Once you release him of this fear, we should be good to go for 2020.

Plenty of “experts” picked Houston though...selective memory I guess.

Pre-game show, every one of the SOB's went with Buffalo.

Exactly....we want and should strive to be nationally relevant.  We want primetime games. We should embrace this love finally coming. Maybe as Josh improves we'll finally get some ref love too.

That’s like 3-4 dudes. Literally every NFL outlet across all media types in the country pick the games. Plenty of those dudes picked Houston. Your premise is false (or poorly worded.)

Some internet digging:

You mentioned ESPN, 6 out of 10 espn experts picked the Texans. On espn's site the headline is how the Bills can get the upset victory over the Texans.

https://www.espn.com/chalk/insider/story/_/id/28411692/nfl-wild-card-upset-picks-how-bills-beat-texans

Another article states majority of experts pick Texans: https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/bills-vs-texans-predictions-majority-of-nfl-experts-pick-houston-to-beat-buffalo/ar-BBYB6rZ

5 of 6 Sports Illustrated picked Texans

6 of 8 SB Nation picked Texans

4 of 7 USA Today picked Texans... Sources below.

Thats not to say the ESPN tv crew on the field didnt all pick the Bills because they did. But that 1 channels on field tv team isn't the same as the national conglomerate of experts out there. This game wasnt as one sided in the national media as you claim. This wasnt like Superbowl 25 where everyone thought our Bills would light up the Giants & we were favored by 7. Like i said earlier, Texans were favored by 3.

So yeah i totally disagree with your premise since 4 espn field personalities arent the same as all the NFL experts.

There isnt a dark cloud over us. We didnt embarrass ourselves or reach a new low. It was a very close game between 2 good teams & it went back & forth & couldve been decided either way on any number of different plays. We'll get em next time & I bet if we get there again next season, the majority of experts will pick us instead. Because our schedule is a lot tougher next year & we'll have earned it
