Ed Oliver: “I can’t touch Aaron Donald with a 10-ft pole”

Recommended Posts

I gotta say, Ed sure is a humble guy, and or he knows what he wants people to think about him.  Me thinks he is gonna be an absolute beast.

Go Bills!!!

I don’t know if he’s humble. He didn’t seem like it in the embedded series. But McDermott is trying his best to humble him.

I love that he's also getting so much one on one time with Kyle Williams to help him hone his skills.

I would bet that Kyle would be a coach on this staff if it weren't for his desire to be home in Louisana to spend time with his kids now.  He made a big point about all of that last year after he made his announcement, and I bet he doesn't want to be on a staff as a coach up here, because it would be just like being a player.  He'd need to uproot the family, etc... but this year is the first time he doesn't need to do that.  Rather he gets to enjoy his kids, but you just can't take football out of the guy.

So he's up here for camp, but will go home to his family for the season mostly....

I'm much more interested in what he does on the field than anything he does or doesn't say.

Yeah, I see that, but he shows respect to other players with his words thus far.  I think coach is trying to get him to realize that flying a bit under the radar is a good thing at this point of his career as it were.  Coach does indeed run the roost at OBD.

Go Bills!!!

I'm loving Ed's effort and attitude. A stupid incident with a jacket, him being extremely confident in an interview, and him getting upset about messing up in practice aren't going to persuade me otherwise.

I see a guy who was ready to be a pro after his freshman year in college and has been bored for two years.  He knows he is talented, but he is relishing every moment and can't wait for the lights to come on and the games to mean something.  He is soaking up every bit of knowledge he can.  I can't wait to see him play.

Right thing to say, Ed Oliver usually says the right thing so no shock there.

I wonder if he really  believes it.

Donald might be the best DT ever so it would be hard to pass him.  But EO should be a beast in his own way.  One of my favorite picks in a long time.  And I love the humbleness, it’s such a better way to go about things.

He also said he was kicked out of practice yesterday for bruising Josh Allen, and said it was just a matter of time. Someting similar in college as well.

Gotta tone it down a bit against your own, but you have to love that kind of intensity from a rookie DT.

Better to have to reel a guy in, than try to have to amp up his intensity

He is definitely on pace to be top 1 or 2 of all time.  Has a bit of work to do to catch John Randle.

Ed is going to make a lot of OCs (and QBs) nervous.  And just watch Jerry's and Trent's sack numbers rise this year.

Of course...the QB wont be able to step up in the pocket to avoid them now

Really looking forward to seeing this guy play and grow into everything he was in college and more. If Murphy and/or Shaq has a good year, we're in business.

Ok Ed...You are probably seeing Donald in your sleep after all of the comparisons. Just stay humble. If your game is even close to his...we will take it.

Why stop there? The sky's the limit for this guy. I'll start clipping his wings if and when he comes up short. Until then I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Good humble answer (really the only answer, but you know how some of these guys egos are) and love that he is studying him so closely

Oliver has been a terror this week at camp

Yup. A lot to like in that text, that he's studying Donald and that he knows he's a rookie and needs to talk like it.

I was so hoping he'd fall to 9th.

Yeah, many have posted about McDermott working to humble Oliver....but I have wondered if it is as much about bolstering Phillips' ego as it is about keeping Oliver's in check.  Remember, Phillips felt out of favor with the Dolphins after run-ins with his coach...because he felt unappreciated.  Maybe McDermott doesn't want him to think he is just getting thrown aside once the Bills have their new toy.  Even if he eventually is a backup, it might help his ego to feel he was seriously considered as a starter.

It looks like Oliver is starting to tear up camp. Whatever Edmunds said to him seems to have lit a fire under his ass. I believe that he will have an impact and be disruptive this year!

Looking at the best's every snap from last year, being early to the practice field, learning from Kyle, posting humbly..... I love it.

Well thats different.  Everyone else is seeing Josh Allen.  Especially Chris Simms.?

I like Chris Simms and his outside the box analysis. He has a nice non linear approach that explores all of a players strengths. Yeah, Simms raves about Allen where others do not. Look what he said about Vosean Joseph...he basically grouped him with the two Devins pre draft time.

Well he hasn't done anything and he's a rookie so yea he has a long way to go

He is a better run stuffer than pass rusher rn so it be crazy to think he will be Donald like out the gate

Well I wouldn't say he is a better run stuffer... Most people think he is a better pass rusher but just hasn't been given much of the opportunity yet playing out of position at the college level.

He only played 1 full  year of nose tackle in college. His first 2 years he was all over the line. They would stunt him around the end

His biggest weakness is his hand technique which is directly related to pass rushing. He was top 10 multiple times in college for stuffing runs behind the line of scrimmage

People think because he's 290 he can't stop the run but that's his specialty after re watching his college games

He has a good amount to go to become a 12 sacks guy,( which he can become) but he will be shutting down backside runs all year
