McD - Allen isn't too far off in throwing again

Read my above post.

As previously posted:

We can agree to disagree. I want my rookie QB to win as many games as he can.  If allen is out for the year, I’m more inclined to agree with you.

In most years, I’m saying exactly what you posted. This year, it’s different.  Josh allen hasn’t been a big winner or stat guy.  Just a big piece of meat that has all the potential in the world but has only made a handful of plays and has been wildly inconsistent.  He needs to show he can win games on his arm

and leadership. He didn’t do it much in college.

As as far as our draft pick goes, I think Beane is going to do something good, just as he did last year.  If he trades down to 27 and drafts another pro bowler, I wouldn’t be surprised.  He’s going to get us talent in next year’s draft.  This year’s draft has looked very good.  Last year’s draft looks very good.  Picking an extra 7-10 picks higher isn’t going to make or break our team.  Josh Allen winning games can.  Period

We are actually pretty close to agreeing, where you are this year is how I feel about next season!

Still better than Peterman.

I respectfully disagree, at least it was incomplete!!!

Back to below 100 yard passing games.

It’s not like we’ve been getting 350+, so.....give him live reps and see what he can be.

I follow the Mountain West and agree Allen was a good QB in college.  Took a 2 win team before he became the starter to two straight bowl games; beat SDSU when they had Donnell Humphrey and beat Boise St who I believe was ranked 13 at the time.  He wasn't a stat ***** and played on a bad team in 2017.  Look at Wyoming now; they are back to playing like garbage.

There’s a much better chance of that happening next year if he does it this year too.

Not that far fetched. WR will be better with Pryor over Holmes. Zay is coming on and KB has the capacity if somehow motivated (You'd think an impending contract for 2019 would do that.) Phillips is showing improvement. As long as the OL holds up, we'll see if Daboll can right the ship.

Yeah, but in reality all this is still "wishful Thinking" IMO. I'm hoping Pryor can make at least a little bit of difference as far as WR goes, but the rest, I don't see much of anything different happening.

I mean Allen is going to be in a bad spot if he does come back , but even if the WR's continue to drop passes, at least we will know Allen is getting the ball where it needs to be. AS far as the Oline goes, I also don't expect much difference from them either,no matter who is playing QB.

That's why you are an elementary school teacher, janitor, or whatever.  You start building the team around him, and if he flames out in a few years, at least you have the infrastructure in place for the next QB.  Continuously drafting QBs without improving the talent around you equates to Cleveland Browns type management.

1.  no need to go personal on the guy!

2.  if drafting a rookie QB next year, you have tons of FA money to build around him.

If you build around Allen and he flams out, most of the FA's you brought in to build-around him will be gone by the time the next QB arrives.

It sure is!

Is it bad to say that I still hope we suck enough the rest of the way though?

I am fine if we keep losing, we are not gonna make the playoffs, so the more draft position help the better.  In fact, I hope we get into the top 3 of the draft and then trade down a little bit for a bounty to get more assets to use on retooling this offense.

I think you're forgetting a little movie called Rookie of the Year. Allen will come back from his arm injury with the ability to now throw the ball into the 300 level seating.

He used to be able to hit Lot 6, but I guess this will do.

Suck or not, I want Allen to get as many game reps as possible for the rest of this season.

Me too, for selfish reasons.

I have numerous bets against my fantasy football opponents that "Josh Allen will score more FFpoints than any other rookie QB". Luckily no one took Mayfield for that bet...two Rosens and two Darnolds.

I still have a chance!

The Cleveland Browns never did that.

So if there is a QB you like next year in the top 5 you pass on him without seeing Allen do anything through the air?

If you really understood football then your posts wouldn't reek so bad of ignorance.  They are not letting Allen play a vertical game. They are designing game plans around the run, screens, and getting the ball out quick. And listen to any NFL commentator, and they all say his receivers get no separation on their routes. Same is said when Anderson is in at qb. Thus the interceptions for Anderson of trying to squeeze it in. I guarantee you Allen can throw for 300 yards a game. But that won't teach him to read defenses. Judge our qbs after we get some decent receivers.

If you recall, Allen actually looked better earlier in the season . But they don't give credit to qbs when his receivers drop touchdown passes or other well thrown balls. Then teams realized all you had to do was blitz our qb, or wait for our Oline penalties to add up and take us out of drives, or for our receivers to screw up or quit on their routes. If they ever let Allen attack the defense again, then teams will quit loading the box for the short game Daboll is using to make up for a less than desirable line and receivers.

You put all the blame on the qbs. It goes a lot deeper than that. It is a combination of qbs, play calling, line, receivers, special team's, and sometimes the defense. We atracked in the 1st half of the Minnesota game, then went to a conservative approach in the 2nd half with a lead. It looks like they stayed in the conservative approach since then. No vertical game, which kills a team who can't run it consistently.

Sit him for the rest of the season. He can learn under Anderson. This season is a bust anyway.

Unleash him him next season when the team is stronger. We have a ton of draft picks and cap space. Beane will use it wisely.

What can he learn from Anderson? Picking pine slivers out of his butt like Anderson has done for his entire career.

He needs game experience.  Anderson can help him in the film room and on game days when Allen retrurns to the sidelines.

Enough.  Enough already.

He’s missed his 2-3 games, it has been a month since he got hurt and next Sunday will be 5 weeks.

the heck with this “bring him back after the bye” crap.  If he can play let him play.

I need to see this kid for the rest of the season.

Great post!  I would also argue that our offense with Allen starting seemed to be a little more effective then what we've seen with Anderson & Pederman.   And this was in spite of Allen facing far tougher defenses.

I'd love to see more of what we did against the Pats with Allen at QB, considering he is actually a threat to run or throw and it doesn't have to be snapped to McCoy. Watching the Rams offense, McVay uses motion a lot to get guys separation right from the snap. I think that what Daboll was doing was actually pretty modern and could be effective and get Allen easy reads.
