boater
It was only a matter of time. The stadium is in an awkward location.. far from many fans ** and difficult to get to as a Metro rider. ** I don't know about most most people, but when I lived in DC trips between MD and VA were equivalent to trips between Buffalo and Ontario--to be avoided. PS: MD drivers are nuts

Fadingpain
It's a totally different era now compared to the old days with a packed RFK, eternal sellouts, the hogs sitting in the front row wearing their jewelry, etc. The new stadium is out in the middle of nowhere in MD and surrounded by huge parking lots, much like our stadium, and the atmosphere in terms of drunken !@#$s is among the worst in the league. Also a bigger stadium capacity... It's just different now.

Like A Mofo
I think this is a byproduct of outrageous ticket prices and PSL's. Expect more of the same in NFL cities over the years that used to have guaranteed sellouts. Also lifting the blackout rule is going to have an effect.
zow2
They haven't sold out for several years. Often the stadium has a huge percentage of opponents fans, especially when Eagles, Giants, Cowboys, Packers, Steelers and a few others are in town. It's only recently that the Skins are lifting the cover on the big myth that every game is a sellout. They've had season ticket availability and individual games for several years. The season ticket thing has gotten bad for them since a story a few years back where they sued an old couple who could not pay that had agreed to I think a 20 year commitment. At that point they had a waiting list but at that point many people decided that season tickets was not worth the risk, along with several other reasons. I know lots of young people who have no interest in the NFL or college football. The impact is not felt because these people are not yet big spenders but when they hit their stride in terms of career their money will be spent elsewhere. Not on game tickets or merchandise such as 400 dollar team coats. The NFL is maintaining due to its older fans. You will see more dorky commercials by the NFL on how grandma is a Bears fan, sonny who moved to Milwaukee for work is a Packers fan, and his daughter who moved to LA for career is a Rams fan. The NFL is saying we don't care if you follow tradition we just want your damn money.

zow2
All sports are suffering because kids don't really watch, and they are starting to age into that 17-25 yr old bracket. Heck, my 14 yr old son has grown up with a sports crazy dad. He likes the games but like most of his friends would rather be on the PS4 or watching his online stuff and Youtube videos. He plays fantasy football with me, but on gameday mostly sits on his phone and keeps track of his fantasy players...and glances at the game once in a while. Then by the 3rd Qtr is checked out on the game. Kids just don't sit and watch sports like we used to.

Captain Hindsight
Tickets are expensive. I'm 30 years old and have a ton of student debt. Hotels, food, gas tolls can push a couple-day trip for a game well over a thousand dollars. At that point, I'd rather spend that money on an actual vacation.
