For those of you locked in on YOUR QB, which other QB could sway you and why?

Recommended Posts

I know it's hard to believe but a lot of you here at TSW have pretty strong opinions on who they want the bills quarterback to be.  Don't research it, just trust me.

Now 10 days before the draft if you were able to unwrap your mits around your QB crush without going ballistic and entertain the possibility of another QB leading this team in the future, who would that be and why?

I have perseverated over this as much as the rest of you, but maybe not as passionately.

That said, I have been loving me some Baker Mayfield since the mid-fall.  I think he is a winner, competitor, leader and good passer.

However, if a group of you b**** slapped me and told me, "NO, PICK SOMEONE ELSE!", I think I would anxiously go with Rosen.  Are there flags?  Yes, but I just think the obvious about what has been said about the kid...he is the most NFL football ready and I will take that.

Oh, btw, I know ripping other board members and questioning their humanity and worth on this planet is always a rollicking good time, but maybe we keep that to a minimum and focus on why YOU are picking who you are picking.  It will make this thread much shorter, but hopefully better.

EDIT:  not critical to your response in this thread, however I am thinking about guys who will have a chance of being there when the bills pick. I just don't think, as others do, that Darnold is anywhere in the picture, regardless of moving up, as I expect him first off the board.

I was a Rudolph guy while we held 21 and 22 overall. Seemed like a perfect value and a very solid QB 'spec.

However since we've traded up I've been zeroed in on Rosen or Baker, mainly because I thought we had zero shot at Darnold.

That being said, Rudolph, if fitting the criteria of the original post would be the guy who could away me back.

Mayfield, Rosen, Allen or Darnold would be fine by me.

I'd prefer Rosen.  My least favorite of those four is Darnold, but I wouldn't be upset if we get him.  I'd feel equally happy with either Allen/Mayfield.

I've been on the Mayfield train for a while now. The only other that I'd be ok with would be Rosen. For me, he reminds me a little of Matt Ryan and that guy is pretty darn good.

Mason Rudolph in the second round....maybe.

All in on Rosen for me. I do like Darnold as well. I'd be okay with Josh Allen if he fell. Darnold has really grown on me over time and I understand the upside of Allen. I just hope they would make him sit at least one year.

I don't like Mayfield for a ton of reasons, the off field stuff, the throat slash, the list, crotch grab are all too "look at me moves." On top of that he is short, comes from a spread offense etc. I have an extreme bias towards short quarterbacks and I am not afraid to admit it. The combination of those things make him untouchable in my mind. I feel he will be a cancer making excuses and blaming teammates. His BS sideshow is perfect for the Jets. He is way more "media driven selfish prick" Rosen than Rosen is. Not sure why people can't see that.

If all else fails Jackson at 22 I could be sold on because of the immense upside. Drafting Rudolph in the first might make me break my TV.

Allen - obvious physical tools, plus watched him with a proper team around him putting beautiful balls on the money at distance in the second half.  I think he can be plenty accurate, which is really what folks seem worried about.  Happy with Darnold, Rudolph, Mayfield or Jackson in that order, no thank you on Rosen.  But even with Rosen, if that guy is who our team wants (and I strongly suspect they don't), I am all in.

I've been locked in on Rosen at 2. I would be equally as happy trading up to 2 for Darnold or trading up to the 4-7 range for Mayfield. I would be slightly less happy, but okay if we took Rudolph at 22. And not happy, but content if we took Riley Ferguson with either pick 96 or 121 (or later).

If we trade up to the top I want Rosen or Darnold, I think they are the only two worth going there.  If we have a very reasonable deal to go to ~6, I would be happy with Baker or Allen there, there's enough with them to be interesting but enough cause for concern to not want to give up 22 & 2019 1st.  If we sit at 12 (basically if Giants and Denver go QB and we are doa) then Jackson would be ok.  If something happened we couldn't trade up and Jackson went before 12, I want to use our picks to build the best team around McCarron, add a QB with our picks between 53-65 and see what happens.

Mayfield, Rosen or Darnold.  I'm not locked onto any particular one, I would be happy with any of these 3.

I'm in this camp myself. any one of these 3 and I would be quite excited.

Any other option I will have to grin and bear it, watch some highlight reels and convince myself that the Bills future is unicorns and rainbows.... Then patiently wait for some preseason games to see if I have anything to really get excited about followed by my mid October reality check

To be honest preseason excitement and October reality check would happen no matter whom we draft

Rosen is my top passer and top choice because he's the most polished and ready to play.  However, I would have no problem with:

1)  Darnold

2)  Allen - I've criticized heavily but I think the tools are there.  My only issue is giving up a lot of picks for him.  I'd easily take him at 12.

I only have these two because I don't think the Bills are interested in Mayfield.  I think the Bills QB board looks like this:

1)  Darnold

2)  Allen

3)  Rudolph

4)  Jackson

5)  Falk

While Rosen is my top guy, I'm not sure the Bills are interested in him either.  They are building something and I don't think guys like Rosen, Mayfield fit into what they are building.  I'd be happy to be wrong but I think you have to factor in the culture that they are trying to build and look at the QBs and ask who fits into that.

Would be cool if Bills were genuinely (and ultimately correctly) in love with someone that is not one of the big 4 as I suspect they will all be over-drafted.  If McDermott and Beane  really liked someone like Rudolph or Luletta best it could be good for us.  We get our QB and don't set our picks on fire.  For the first time perhaps ever (Chuck Knox and Lou Saban being the possible exceptions), I believe in our mgt.  If they think they have to trade the picks I trust them there too.  Clearly they are focused on getting a QB they believe in and I trust them.

I'll come to accept any QB Beane drafts based on the principal that I will allow him to demonstrate his genius over what I perceive based on the non sense handed to us from twitter "mockable drafts" and hearsay.

Who knows but in Beane we trust, he could turn out to be the mad genius that redefines an era of NFL football

I'm all in on Mayfield .... but ....

I'd be happy with Rosen ... have injury history concerns, but I'm no doctor

I'd be happy with Darnold ... I have concerns with his small sample size of a college career, he could be fools gold, but I'm not a pro scout

I'd be OK with Rudolph ... IMHO he brings the best "value", allowing us to save our picks to better the team

Lauletta, Falk, Ferguson, White, .... This group is kind of like wishing for that new bike for Christmas and getting underwear ... you need the underwear, it's useful, but not as near the fun ... one of these four COULD succeed ... but I don't know.

I would hate Allen ... just can't get past his completion percentage

I would hate Jackson ... I just don't like the entire concept of a running QB

Bottom line is I truly believe we are getting a QB this draft. I believe in "the process". Whichever one we pick I will be all in because I'm a Bills fan.

Would love Rosen, would like Darnold but that's highly unlikely, I could live with Baker.

Just please please no Josh Allen.

I kinda agree but I like Allen, really hope he does well but too afraid for the Bills to try to develop him. Otherwise, I'm in your boat!

I'm not really locked on to any QB because I know damn well that I have zero control over who the Bills pick, and because we may not be able to get into a position to pick the QB I want anyway.

I am really hoping for Darnold or Rosen. Those are definitely me top 2 choices. I think Rosen has the potential to be the best QB in this draft class. He is the most advanced of any QB in this draft on the field. I love his ability to read defenses and go through his progressions.

I think both Darnold and Rosen can fit a wide variety of offense's, and I think both have the skill set to be franchise QBs if developed properly.

But I would also be happy with Mayfield. I think he will require a bit more specific type of offense, but I think he also has a good shot at being a successful NFL QB. I love his passion and drive to be great. But I worry that he will focus too much on the people saying negative things about him. It will either drive him to be great or drive him crazy, not sure which... lol.

I do worry a bit about both Rosen and Mayfield's ability to avoid injury since both has multiple concussions in college. If you build a strong o line araround Rosen, I think you help limit this risk. Mayfield's play style I think has the possibility to keep putting him at a bit more risk of injury though, and he was adamant even after 2 concussions in 3 weeks that he will Not change his play style.

I am less sure on Allen, but he does somewhat intrigue me as I think his ceiling is quite  high. I am just skeptical that he can reach it, and his accuracy issues scare me.

Rudolph and Jackson I am not as high on, but Rudolph does also intrigue me a bit. He has great stats and has improved every year. But I'm not sure he will ever be a true franchise type QB. I see him more as a Dalton type - where he might end up being good enough to win with, but not really good enough to win it all.

I haven't watched much film on Jackson, so I don't have a real strong opinion on him one way or another.

Honestly, I am also intrigued by some of the 2nd tier QBs in this draft, like White, Lauletta and even Falk. All will need more development, but could turn out to be mid/late round gems.

If we do miss out in the top 3-4 QBs in this draft class, I think an interesting idea would be to maybe grab 2 of the 2nd tier guys, since we have so many picks.

I'm not locked in but would be happy with any of Darnold, Rosen, Mayfield, and even Rudolph under the right circumstances.

I'd be flexible on any of those.

The only guy who won't sway me is Lamar Jackson.  He's poison to me!

(Sorry to answer basically with the opposite of what the OP asked for).

I'd be happy with any of the QBs except for Rosen (I think he's a terrible fit for us in Buffalo and in the locker room) and Jackson (I want nothing to do with another QB that can't stand in the pocket and throw from day one)

I don't like that so much of his value has been running, but it is important to note that a lot of that was on designed runs, and on designed passes his rate of deciding to scramble is actually fairly low.

I'm not so sure what to make of him, but I did want to point out this, and not have his running ability lead people to assume he is a scramble first guy who won't stay in the pocket.  But the number of times Louisville decided to design a run for him makes it harder and more limited to evaluate how he is as a pocket passer, and how he would perform as a Buffalo Bill.

Darnold Josh R. or Baker are my 3

no you can not sway me.. I will give any QB we draft a shot to prove themselves, but the above 3 will have me sleeping much easier this summer

I'm pretty much locked in on Lamar Jackson. Darnold is my #2 QB in the class, and I'd love to have Allen or Mayfield too, but there's really no sense in trading up for one of them when Buffalo can get the guy I want the most at 12 (or maybe a tiny tick above 12).
