Lurker
Robert Woods and Sammy were able to catch footballs that hit them in the hands as rookies. Playing in the SEC and Pac-10 is a bit higher level of competition than the American Athletic Conference. I'm sure Woods and Sammy were a lot more comfotrtable playing on a big NFL stage as rookies than Zay has appeard so far...
Real McClappy
He was one of the most productive WR's in college. I have high confidence he will turn it around once he and Tyrod built more rapport together. Â All in time.

Dr.Sack
His stats haven't been too good. Is it a case where they not scheming and targeting him, or he simply doesn't have the athleticism to get in and out of his breaks to get free from NFL level coverage? He's dropping balls that hit both hands. Had two drops today. One should have been a TD and we were lucky it bounced to Holmes for the TD.

Is it a case where they not scheming and targeting him, or he simply doesn't have the athleticism to get in and out of his breaks to get free from NFL level coverage? I'm sure he's athletic enough, but not naturally smooth and elusive off the line a la Sammy. Not unusual for a rook to struggle there, but the drops are a problem now. EmotionallyUnstable
Neither. He's dropping balls that hit both hands. Had two drops today. One should have been a TD and we were lucky it bounced to Holmes for the TD. Exactly. Â It's also important to note that these drops are through traffic on balls being zipped in. No excuses because they should be caught, but this is something correctable
Coach Tuesday
He is fighting the ball with his hands. And seems to panic and lose confidence each time he gets an opportunity and bungles it. They need to work some easy throws into the game plan in early downs next week or he could keep sliding.

John from Riverside
Im not really worried about him  I am a little surprised at the WAY he is off to his slow start.....the guy caught everything close to him in college  He is overthinking it right now...he needs one break out game to get himself going....its coming

Kirby Jackson
I think Zay had the yips at the moment. It's like a golfer. After the drop last week, he's trying so hard and wants to do so well. I feel for him. He's a great kid that cares. Next week the Bills should come out and run a couple of rollout drags to him for easy catches. He needs to get his confidence back. He's a really talented player but it's in his head at the moment. atlbillsfan1975
They are trying to get his confidence back with a TD. He will be ok. Catching the ball is mental. He needs that big catch to get him feeling he belongs.

Kelly the Dog
...yup...genetics play a HUGE role....yet another astute assessment....what if he was adopted?...now what?.................. I do think that a guy who has been around the NFL his whole life, who has a dad who was a player and teaches him what being in the NFL take and what the league is all about is an advantage. It's not really genetics. The same way that the son of a high school coach is usually a distinct advantage.

BillsfaninMyrtleBeach
A lot of what is going on to Zay is the speed of the NFL game. The timing is like going from 33 to 45rpm. He's trying to show what he can do but he's over thinking it. He'll calm down and be o.k.
Alphadawg7
I dont have an issue with him struggling with routes as much as I have with passes going off his hands. He's now had bad drops in all 3 games to start the season. Hopefully this corrects itself and we start to see the kid that showed some real promise in the Preseason. Â Unfortunate and harsh truth is we SHOULD be 3-0 right now had he not botched week 2 final play. And again, I am not referencing even the ball going off his hands, he cost us that TD with his poor route which made what was a great throw hard to catch because he got his head around late after the stumble. He is NOT the ONLY reason we lost, but he did fail during a wide open opportunity to win the game.

Sammy Watkins' Rib
I can't figure out Zay's drops issue. The dude looks like a legitimate NFL receiver to me physically. Most all of his drops have not been gimmies. But still NFL receivers are expected to make those grabs more times than not. I think maybe he just has to get used to the speed of the game. I think he'll be fine in the long run.

NFL players are expected to preform at a high level. This is enhanced by the fact he was praised for his sure hands coming out of college. Â what are your expectations for him?

He's having issues with the most rudimentary element of playing the position which is catching the football. It's plain as day by any objective measure.
