BuffaloBillyG
He's a big body. Seems to me to be better suited at true NT than 1T but is a good run stuffer. Would NOT count against any comp pick formula for next year. Edited March 10 by BuffaloBillyG 5

MrEpsYtown
Quality 1 tech. I am happy they are looking into the released guys. With so many free agents leaving us this year, there is a chance they can work the comp pick stuff for next year. 1 7

Cool. Starting 1T in place of Jones? Eh, not sold.
The Jokeman
Solid run defender, 29 years old so should be serviceable another few years. At the very least a solid backup but at best a two down player.

Fatukasi is slightly more athletic. If I knew how to post that "why not both" gif, I would.

biggerdaddynj
I know how many feel about PFF but found an article, “One 'secret superstar' for all 32 NFL teams entering the 2022 season”. Fatukasi was the pick for Jax. “In today’s pass-happy league, the best way to ensure you fly under the radar is to be a run-stuffing specialist. Being one coming off a below-average year will only magnify that. Fatukasi has been one of the best run stuffers in the league since he came into the NFL, with back-to-back PFF run-defense grades of at least 86.0 before last season’s drop-off. If he can bounce back to that previous level in Jacksonville, he will be an important and unheralded cog of a defense looking to take a big step forward in 2022.” Here’s a link to the PFF (non-subscriber) bio info page on Fatukasi: https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/folorunso-fatukasi/38558 2

BuffaloRebound
Maybe this puts some pressure on daquan Jones to make a decision, but it’s gotta be hard to convince a guy who played for over $10m per year the last 2 seasons to take a deal in the $3-4m range which I guess is what Beane wound want him for. I’d be surprised if we don’t draft a 1 tech this year also.

GunnerBill
He is a serviceable 1T. Didn't have a great year last year from what I understand from my Jaguars supporting friend but was solid enough for them in 2022 and before that with the Jets.

Looks like we are filling non-premium positions with players that don't hurt the comp pick formula. NT (when the Fatukasi signing becomes official), safety, backup QB, all players that don't count. Davis, Epenesa, and Jones will probably net us a comp pick as long as we sign no more than 2 qualifying UFAs .

I’d be surprised if we don’t draft a 1 tech this year also. His last contract was 2022-2024 for 3 years at $30 million. Unless they get a “cap friendly” number—I’d rather go with Jones for a team friendly two year deal which should be about $2 million less per year then a “realistic” (to) Fatusaki pay cut, don’t see Fatusaki taking a $4 million pay cut to $6 million with no injury discount and that’s where Spotrac has Jones). Then for the obvious, getting younger and cheaper, draft Jones’ replacement this year who they can develop for two years with Jones in-house and then the rookie would hopefully be a nice starter on a two year rookie contract freeing up cap space for those two years to use elsewhere after Jones leaves. I would take the over on DQ missing more than 5 games...again. Same with J.P. I hope we come away with 2 DTs (Sweat being one) and maybe one vet like Fletcher Cox. I'm also high on Maason Smith who can replace Shaq. Better rusher and can play anywhere on the line. 1

It stings to lose/move off guys who have been a part of this for years, but they’ve had multiple cracks at it and haven’t shown up (17 aside) when it matters. Time to open a new window, with a new mindset and see if this next group can get over the hump.
