BillsWest
Per ProFootball Rumors, the 49ers have fired Steve Wilks DC. I guess KC will do that to you! I think the final outcome would have been different if Dre Greenlaw doesn't tear his achilles. Edited February 14 by BillsWest 6

Logic
Given his connections to Sean McDermott and the fact that he was unable to stop the Kansas City Chiefs in the biggest game of the year, he feels like a perfect fit for the Bills. 1 2 1 5 32 2

Then Shanahan needs to be fired. You put Spags asDC of SF and they best the crap out of KC. The man comes at you relentlessly. Old Coot
Wilks had KC's number in the first half: KC scored zero points. Maybe the firing is related to the fact that Wilks' called D on the last play did not account for KC's Corndog / Tom & Jerry play. KC had shown thta play earlier in the game & the 49ers defensed it well.
Not Applicable
He held KC to fewer than 20 points in regulation, and that was after one of his best players suffered possibly the most inopportune freak injury in NFL history. Seems harsh. 1 minute ago, NastyNateSoldiers said: That 2nd 14 in overtime when he had all his Defensive backs standing 10yds off the Wrs that was classic Mcd defense in critical situations. What's even more ridiculous is the Chiefs were one of the worst teams in the league in big plays on offense. They barely hit any bombs this season. 1

WhitewalkerInPhilly
Official now. Though seriously, he did a darn good job holding KC to what they had considering how the offense pooped the bed in the second half. 22 minutes ago, Logic said: Given his connections to Sean McDermott and the fact that he was unable to stop the Kansas City Chiefs in the biggest game of the year, he feels like a perfect fit for the Bills. I mean, you joke, but I would absolutely take him on staff if McDermott roped him in for a year as Assistant Head Coach. wppete
Not surprised. With all that talent on defense they should’ve won that game. He called a bad game.
BuffaloRebound
Whatever he had Bosa doing a majority of the game just chasing Pacheco across the field and giving Mahomes huge running lanes was idiotic. Might’ve worked in 1st half but backfired in the 2nd half effectively taking away bosa’s pass rush ability.

Hey, how did vaunted genius Kyle Shanahan do in terms of points vs the defense that Brady and Allen put up 24 on? This is Shanahan covering his ass and picking a fall guy as everyone has to point out that he got blanked in the endzone repeatedly and got shut out of the 3rd quarter. 2

His defense stopped Mahomes multiple times while Kyle's offense was stuck in neutral failing to remember they had Christian effing McCaffrey to hand it to. Then the special teams screwed up and handed the Chiefs a score. I am not a huge Steve Wilkes fan. I didn't like that hire to start with. But his defense was not the problem on Sunday. 3 1 7

Hey @GunnerBillhow u like them 4 punts in 3 games. I didn't even know about that one. That one goes right next to 35.7 pts per game on the MCD Wall of Shame! 1 1

Completely agree. That game was lost because SF’s O couldn’t put the nail in the coffin. SF D gave up an average of five points a quarter. That should have won the game. 1 2
DabillsDaBillsDaBills
Imagine getting fired after holding KC to 19 points in regulation (7 off a special teams turnover) while forcing 5 punts and 2 turnovers. That's light years better than any Bills DEF performance against the Chiefs in the playoffs. 4

Brand J
If I had a direct line to Wilks, I would’ve told him to tell his players to watch out for the Mahomes keeper on the crucial 4th down in OT. Since it had gained so much yardage earlier in the game, I had a sneaky suspicion they’d go back to it. Turns out I would’ve got that one right and 9ers would’ve won the Lombardi.
Peter
In my judgment, Wilks got thrown under the bus. Sounds a bit familiar. Hmm. Perhaps Kyle should have been familiar with the "Josh Allen" overtime rules and also not overruled Wilks when he called that time out.
Mr. WEO
Wow, 49ers D takes a lead into the 4 Q and holds Mahomes and company to 25 (19 in regulation) and gets fired…. Bills DC should thank the Bills HC for being so forgiving! 1
msw2112
2 hours ago, wppete said: I agree that this was a terrible defensive call. I, watching on TV, saw the blitz coming. If I knew it, Mahomes and the Chiefs certainly knew it. I said to my friends that the Chiefs would easily beat the blitz and they did. I'd be OK with a well-disguised blitz (although blitzing Mahomes is risky in any fashion), but this was so obvious that it was very easy to beat. I still don't know if it warrants firing Wilks. His defense kept the 49ers in the game and the sputtering offense really failed them. But, then, Shanahan can't fire himself.
