Logic
Forgive me if this topic already exists. I did a quick search and couldn't find it. It seems like the era of excellent movie soundtracks is over. From the late 60s through about the late 90s, movie soundtracks had the potential to be some of the best collections of music to be released in any given year. I could list 10 different amazing soundtracks just from the 90s alone, but I'll start the thread with one that I really love: "You're Gonna Miss Me" – 13th Floor Elevators "Ev'rybody's Gonna Be Happy" – The Kinks "I'm Wrong About Everything" – John Wesley Harding "Oh! Sweet Nuthin'" – The Velvet Underground "Always See Your Face" – Love "Most of the Time" – Bob Dylan "Fallen for You" – Sheila Nicholls "Dry the Rain" – The Beta Band "Shipbuilding" – Elvis Costello & The Attractions "Cold Blooded Old Times" – Smog "Let's Get It On" – Barry Jive & The Uptown Five (Jack Black) "Lo Boob Oscillator" – Stereolab "The Inside Game" – Royal Trux "Who Loves the Sun" – The Velvet Underground "I Believe (When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever)" – Stevie Wonder I mean...The Kinks, the Velvet Underground, Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan, the Beta Band, Stevie Wonder, and even a funny/excellent rendering of "Let's Get It On" by Jack Black? Amazing track list. Elite. Your turn. 1

I was shocked at how long it took for The Big Chill to come up. Best ever, IMO. Great years of my life and I lived near (and often worked in) Beaufort, SC where it was filmed, so I may have been influenced? Would the Last Waltz count? Has that been mentioned? . Nextmanup
Far, far too many to list. A few of my favorites off the top of my head: Apocalypse Now (with creepy synthesized music composed by Francis Ford Coppola himself, and his dad!) Bladerunner (the score from Vangelis makes the movie what it is) Star Wars and sequels (Can't imagine this franchise without John Williams' masterpiece) Gladiator (Hans Zimmer is one of the better guys out there currently writing cinematic music) The Godfather (the music from Nino Rota has become a part of American culture) The Mission (Ennio Morricone is one of the all time greats)
