What to do with Diggs

  1. 1. IF Diggs wants a Hill type contract what do you do?

    • Pay the man his money
      116
    • Trade him for a Hill type return
      116

If a decision has to be made prior to this season, I say pay him, which is the way I voted.  It is all hands on deck for this Super Bowl run, and we are better with Diggs in the line-up.  If the decision comes after the season, then there will be a lot of other factors that need to be considered based on how the season goes. If Beane has to find a way to do it now, I trust that he will.

Looking at the polling here it's almost a dead even split which is very telling how divided fans are on this issue.

For me Diggs is very similar to the Edmunds situation with the only difference in that Diggs is actually a difference maker worth the money.

But just like my rationale with Edmunds, you can't keep and pay everyone which is why the Bills hand may be forced next year to move Diggs in a trade for a similar haul that GB and KC got for their star receivers.

It just doesn't really happen with star players.

Next off-season, the only likely options are extend or trade.  I see zero scenarios where he plays a lame duck year with the Bills.

Well okay.  If we're talking about waiting until next offseason, I say extend him and sign him because I believe the Cap goes up a TON!!!  For some reason I was viewing this thread from the perspective of this offseason alone.  A lot can happen in a year.

A reasonable raise with some added guarantee money would be fair but if Diggs believes he should be paid like Adams or Hill then I would trade him while his value is still high for a first rounder along with (2)  middle round picks.  Diggs is very good but he will being turning 29 in November,  I also point to him being shut down the last two seasons again KC in the playoffs.  You could say they gave him extra coverage and I say the Bills gave both Hill & Kelce extra coverage and they still produced

Davis had over 200 yards and 4 TDs because of the coverage they gave Diggs. Just saying. But you right, he is getting older.

Give Stefon Diggs a new deal.

He is the best receiver we have since Andre Reed.  That's a long drought until Diggs was traded to us.

Stefon has a hardcore work ethic, so unless he has a bad injury, his production will not go down much until he hits 33 years old. His career average catch percentage is 69%. That's insanely high, which means he has ELITE hands. And Stefon is clutch. This is extremely rare to have in a wide receiver.

Josh Allen is an elite QB who is just going to keep airing the hell out of the football so Allen/Diggs connection is an elite duo. I want to milk that.

Haven’t read the thread, so I don’t know if it’s been posted (doubt it was considering the source).

Mods, feel free to delete.

my buddy just sent this to me.  Probably has no value, just thought I’d post here.

we better draft one of the top 5 WRs of they’re there.  The thought of losing Diggs and drafting a RB 🤮

Call the jets they can keep 4 get pick 10 overall and a couple others and they’ve got a deal. They where runner ups for Hill and have cap space. He can go run around with a pile of money finishing 4 in the division every year.

? Terrace Marshall got 30 targets and 17 catches last season. He's nothing special. No sale.

Which means if you give him Diggs targets he’ll have 95 catches. Math.😲

Some people have the ability to decide what they think is real and what they think is fake.  Sorry I made you think so hard

That is the problem, too many people like you thinking fake ***** is real. Maybe if you thought a little harder about it you would have made the right decision.

Doesn't work like that. You're speculating that he's gonna get 95 catches. Speculation is worthless.

I can easily say that Terrance Marshall sucks and doesn't belong on the field. Be honest. 17 catches is abysmal rookie numbers. Puke.

Whew... for those "pay the man his money" types on here. Thank God they don't run the Bills.

1) it's physically impossible to pay him what he's looking for, salary cap wise. I know many of you believe in salary caps sleight of hand. But it's just not enough in this situation.

2) even if you go nuclear and could squeeze him in under the cap, you would be gutting the money left for the rest of the team.

As Jerry Jones said recently: great teams, even just good teams, lose great players to lower performing teams, it's how the NFL system is designed. Just ask Aaron Rodgers or Patrick Mahomes.. who lost their elite WR. I expect the same to happen to Josh Allen.

I watched the great 1990s Bills fall apart under the salary cap. The losses of Thurman Thomas and Bruce Smith stung. But they were inevitable. Some pain is coming up here as well.

EDIT: Read the Cowboys built for 2021 situation https://sports.yahoo.com/whats-next-for-the-dallas-cowboys-and-jerry-jones-a-painful-talent-drain-224708265.html. Similarly, the Bills are built for 2022. 2023 gonna suck.

I hope they have a plan to keep him happy.

It would not be good if this situation somehow interferes with the season.

I personally would like to keep him, but have no idea how they plan on doing that (if they do plan on doing that).

This may involve re-working Josh's contract. Given their relationship, I suspect that is a possibility if it is feasible.

is his contract really looming?

Yes, IMO. He may have two years left, but he is not gona just ride this out and then get paid.

He is making 10-15 Million less than the Top paid WR. For a guy who just recently lead the league in yards.

He is making the same as Corey Davis and Robby Anderson.

right but contracts are all about timing...they're never going to align perfectly.

The Bills are wisely waiting to see how Diggs plays next year.  WR’s tend to drop off past age 30 and he’s approaching 3-0.  If he has another big season they might be comfortable giving him a new 3 or 4 year deal.

But they also have Gabriel Davis on the roster can could spend a premium pick on a WR this season.  Not impossible these players could pick up the slack at the teams too WR but way too early to tell.

I'd like to keep Diggs but I also remember Brady carving the league up with very average wide receivers. It's a tough call. I am not in favor for paying a WR 20 plus million. Not when you have four or five receiving options on any given play.

Who's to say Diggs will report without a new deal?

Considering that he was recruiting Von Miller last week, I’m pretty sure he won’t hold out.  Also Beane doesn’t make those comments publicly if his contract was a major issue.

He’s too smart to jeopardize that and he’s probably been in touch with Stef and his agent about the situation over the past few years.
