Don’t remember that, think it would have been a bigger deal. Do you have a link?

does it really matter?  it's probably a fake and if it isn't, it doesn't change anything about Josh.  you might even respect him more.  we did suck for 20 years

Even if true, Kelly said basically the same thing prior to getting drafted, and even ran away to the USFL.  He changed his mind not long after arriving.

Making someone the highest paid player in the game has a way of changing a mind.

If it was it would have been unearthed a long time ago with the others

Yeah, there's no way Allen said this in 2016 after finally getting an offer to a division one school playing in one game breaking his collarbone and maybe at this point working towards securing the starting spot.

I didn’t bring it up. I was asking about when it was discussed previously so I could read it.

That’s my thought too

I wonder if Phil McGeoghan wasn’t the Bills receivers coach at the time, if Zay Jones still would’ve been the pick in the 2nd. Also wonder if McGeoghan’s release a year later had anything to do with Zay being a different player than the Bills thought they were getting.

Without McGeoghan’s influence, it’s possible they could’ve went Kupp or Schuster at that pick.

So can actually visiting/living in the area and seeing that it's not what most people's perceptions are.

Absolutely, and his continued post career residency here speaks to that loudly. But making him the highest paid player in the league came first and provided the opportunity to experience the community.

What do we have here

 CC Beane

Every year Lids basically dumps their random leftover NFL winter hats........mostly out-of-market teams at that point.........on the market at the end of January for $5 each..............it was likely nothing more than that.

Just the one I included in the last post.

I think It was mainly just talked about by random people on bills Twitter right after the draft. iirc (it was a long time ago…lol) I think it ended up being just a fake photoshopped tweet or something. Like you said, it would’ve been talked about more if it was real.

It would have been everywhere if it was real

Hey, I'm not balding rapidly like @Royale with Cheese but I do collect and wear quality sports caps......so I know when to get the f*cking deals, smartass. ;)

Check the date on that Kupp tweet......end of January.......about a week or two into the annual clearance.

For $5 I inevitably buy a bunch of them every year and donate them.

This year they actually still had some Bills ones for a change...........probably over-loaded for a playoff run which unfortunately ended 3 weeks early.

I even bought this year's version of Kupp's "The Grazer" or "The Target" pictured in his tweet..........because I know someone who actually likes that logo.

True, but he had to show he was worth a long-term/big money investment.  He could have pulled a Gary Anderson.

I think he showed that with the Gamblers and it’s why they made him the highest paid player in history at the time. Not getting the Anderson comparison.

The Bills did that because Kelly no more wanted to sign with the Bills after the USFL folded than he did right after the 1983 draft.  But he could have taken the money and proceeded to play poorly, getting himself released after a few years and a fresh start with a new team.

And having your best friend at the time (Kent Hull) join you on the team to be your center also helped.

Zay Jones being pickled was due to Phil McGeoghan being made WR coach.

He stated at the time that Zay Jones was WR who would be most ready for NFL.

Kupp's career went on rise when Phil McGeoghan shuffled off to (Colorado) Buffalo.

He could have just gone to camp and deliberately looked bad so he could be released by Bills and sign for another team.

Gary Anderson did that to get released by Bills.

I know that Anderson deliberately played himself off the team. As a 7th round pick in 1982, signed for the rookie minimum.  With clueless Stew Barber in the GM chair.

Versus Kelly as a 1st round, signed to the largest contract in league history, with Bill Polian presiding. I see absolutely nothing similar in their situations.

Sure, Kelly could have tanked, but nobody would have given him the same record money after seeing him suck in the league. The Bills also owned him for five years, regardless. There couldn’t be more disparity in the situations.

will be a Bill soon 💪💪

Should have already been a Bill. I remember during the senior bowl all Zay Jones did was talk about how good Copper Kupp was. It wasnt just oh he is a good player standard talk, it was I know this guy is better than be talk. As soon as we took Zay in the 2nd all I could think about how  Zay spoke about Copper Kupp and just knew he would be the better player.

BTW I did have high hopes for Zay mostly due to NFL pedigree and his performaces during the Senior bowl pratices

Familiarity goes a long way, but Zay did have a hell of a college career and had the physical attributes you look for.  It was a good pick, it didn’t work out.  Obviously, you would now rather have the other 2, but physically Zay has more ability and caught everything thrown at him in college. Something broke in that man’s mind, the other 2 really clicked in gear and killed it.
