True story - this killed George Allen. Another reason it’s not funny.

The joke was pretty funny; dumping Gatorade on the coach is stupid, though.

I was in college and Carson Productions would get hundreds (I  was told) joke submissions and occasionally they would see one they like and send a check ensuring rights to joke.  I used to watch Johnny Carson regularly while doing homework in Wilkeson Quadrangle lounge at UB and when I had an idea for a joke which would fit in I'd mail it in.  Never got an acknowledgement, even a postcard, on submissions.  One time I got a letter from Carson Productions and it was a check with fine print on it saying by cashing this check they got all rights to submission in all TV shows, movies and publications.  What it did NOT do however specify which submission was being purchased.  Being a college student and perpetually broke I cashed it (cashier double checked IDs and actually called a manager to approve) and spent it on books.  I watched the show still and listened for my joke but I never heard it.  Once I asked someone to turn it up and he asked "Why?.  I explained I had submitted a joke which Carson Productions paid for and was waiting to hear and he told me "You know he may have just used this at a dinner or other paid presentation.  Likely you will never hear it."  Courses change following semester and I had 8 am class so my Carson vigil ended.

They are all hack clowns.

JC is rolling over in his grave and Jay Leno's chin is getting bigger knowing that these talentless trolls followed them.

The next thing these guys say or do anything that is funny will be the first time they say or do anything funny.

Gutfeld is crushing them for a reason.

Yep.  I felt the age when Bob Saget died.

as much as i appreciate saget, the news didn't throw me.  i think i was a bit too old for full house, so the full connect wasn't there.

Urban myth.  Allen died from ventricular fibrillation (cardiac arrest). His death had nothing to do with Gatorade or Pneumonia.

Don't care for the new crowd at all. If you can find them on one of those retro channels, Dick Cavett had some really interesting actual conversations with folks. But seems it's mostly all about cheap laughs and bowing down to the topic of the day, so I tune out.

You call them clowns but think Leno was funny?  There’s never been a bigger, albeit very well paid, hack than Leno.  He was the epitome of how not to do comedy.   He did for late night TV what Little Hug did for kids drinks.

.....and politics.  So pass.  I'd rather hear what TBD posters have to say when it comes to football.  Cavett was good.

Yes, I was using a euphemism because that particular slant quickly becomes a topic that derails into polemical bickering. But I agree with you.

My favorite part about Fallon is when he intentionally does that nervous laugh at his own unfunny jokes. Tee-hee.

Conan's the only one who has done it right in 30+ years. Colbert was much better as a caricature. Gutfeld just gets spite views, he's not actually a funny or interesting individual either, c'mon.

Carson is the undisputed King!  Loved Leno too.  Jay used to laugh at politicos, and people laughed along with him, not like today.

The current breed of late night hosts, SNL cast, TV show reboots, and their writers have alienated half of their potential American audience by over-politicizing content.  They naively expect all viewers to nod in agreement with cheap shots and misguided attacks on those who lean right of center.

Worst of all...they're attempts at most of their comedy falls flat. They're not funny.
