FilthyBeast
I've said this many times before, but any hopes the Bills have of getting to the SB is getting the #1 seed and homefield throughout. Because we already saw the end result playing in TEN and they aren't beating them or a similar team like BAL on the road assuming they get back to the playoffs in the first place.
billybrew1
Yes. It really is. I can't see the Bills going to the show if they don't get that bye..... imho anyhoo.... Go Bills!
JaCrispy
If we are gonna get it, it’s a big deal... If we are not gonna get it, it’s not a big deal...😉
Reks Ryan
Yea #1 seed is more important than ever. Equivalent to a playoff win. Plus home field advantage, plus bye week to rest and heal after a long season
Bruce Smith
How big is it? If TN gets it Derrick Henry comes back with a full head of steam. Week ten of his recovery is January 9th which is week 17. The playoffs for him would start two weeks later and give him 12 weeks post surgery. If TN gets him back and has home field with that front four they are gonna be a tough out.
Bruce Smith
NY Times Playoff Simulator puts the odds of a Titans #1 seed at 66% with a win over New Orleans this weekend. That is how big a lead they have. Their schedule was front loaded hard when Henry was killing people.

Big Blitz
Kamara is out. Tennessee v New Orleans no Kamara no Henry. Just what you were hoping for when you bought tickets to that game....
CincyBillsFan
It wasn't very important for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season. Hell, home field really didn't matter for them either. IF the Bill's catch fire and finish say 13 - 4 or 12 - 5 and lock up the 2nd seed that will mean two home games and a road trip for the championship game - just like last season. Wasn't it as recently as 2019 that the Ravens had the bye and home field advantage and lost their first game of the layoffs?

Doc Brown
Of course it is. Only having to win two in a row to get to the Super Bowl, a week of rest to heal from injuries, and home field advantage puts you in the driver seat I mean only seven teams that played in the Wild Card round have won the Super Bowl in the last 50 years. Having said that, that number obviously will go up (the Bucs won last year) in the new format. Edited November 13, 2021 by Doc Brown

I had to get away from this board for a few days with the sky is falling, but yes of course it’s a big deal. Everyone gets a week off, the Bills coaching staff gets to scout the playoff teams the week before, and homefield throughout. How is that not important? The team can go into a bye with momentum with the starters playing a good portion of the season finale, but the banged up ones get two weeks off. I don’t understand how it’s even brought up as it’s common sense. Every team wants the first seed.

WyoAZBillfan
More than ever. Longer season, get that bye week to heal/rest and game plan. Plus home crowd gets another home game or two.
Eastport bills
The home field advantage throughout the playoffs usually produces the SB berth. The fan energy, noise factors the visitors on offense and a few home field calls can't hurt.
BillnutinHouston
1st round bye and home field thru the playoffs matters tremendously. I can't believe some even have this question.
BullBuchanan
It's a bigger deal than it's ever been with only 1 bye now. It's the biggest negative side effect of expanding the playoffs imo.

Boatdrinks
I think this might be the least important year to have it in quite some time. No team is so dominant that they might be unbeatable at home. TEN has played a ton of close games and could easily lose a home playoff game. The opponent only has to be better that day, not all season. It’s one game. Most years only one of the #1 seeds reaches the Super Bowl. Pitt was winning then with a lot of the same smoke-and-mirrors act that TN is now..........and it unwound unceremoniously. Add in that it's still a COVID year and any team could lose it's QB with no notice for 1-2 weeks at a time like what happened today with Pitt or GB last week with Rodgers..........both cost those teams games most likely.........and it's far too early to shedule predict, IMO. And to illustrate............I think I heard Bill Cowher say this is the first season since the merger that there hasn't been a 0 or 1 loss team at this point of any season..........I think it's never been less predictable than this year. 1

The Red King
As noted, one extra week of rest for injured players, one less game to play (with chance for injury or outright loss). All that even if you overlook homefield. Now, you might argue something like 2nd vs. 3rd or such, but top seed is very, very much worth it. It's at the point where the Steelers and Jags games not only cost this team the #1 seed, but very well the division and with another expected easy win against the Falcons on Thur the Pats will move into 1st place of the division and will stay there if the Bills don't beat the Colts.
