Is the #1 seed that big of a deal anymore?

I've said this many times before, but any hopes the Bills have of getting to the SB is getting the #1 seed and homefield throughout.

Because we already saw the end result playing in TEN and they aren't beating them or a similar team like BAL on the road assuming they get back to the playoffs in the first place.

How big is it?  If TN gets it Derrick Henry comes back with a full head of steam.  Week ten of his recovery is January 9th which is week 17.  The playoffs for him would start two weeks later and give him 12 weeks post surgery.

If TN gets him back and has home field with that front four they are gonna be a tough out.

It wasn't very important for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season.  Hell, home field really didn't matter for them either.

IF the Bill's catch fire and finish say 13 - 4 or 12 - 5 and lock up the 2nd seed that will mean two home games and a road trip for the championship game - just like last season.

Wasn't it as recently as 2019 that the Ravens had the bye and home field advantage and lost their first game of the layoffs?

In the off-season when the focus was KC KC KC it was talked about how we’d need the #1 so we don’t have travel to KC, but since KC has taken a step back and there really isn’t a dominant AFC Team is the #1 seed really that big of a deal anymore?

Home field, bye ... uh yeah it is a big deal.  Come on man.

Of course it is.  Only having to win two in a row to get to the Super Bowl, a week of rest to heal from injuries, and home field advantage puts you in the driver seat  I mean only seven teams that played in the Wild Card round have won the Super Bowl in the last 50 years.  Having said that, that number obviously will go up (the Bucs won last year) in the new format.

Is the sky blue?

I had to get away from this board for a few days with the sky is falling, but yes of course it’s a big deal.

Everyone gets a week off, the Bills coaching staff gets to scout the playoff teams the week before, and homefield  throughout.  How is that not important?

The team can go into a bye with momentum with the starters playing a good portion of the season finale, but the banged up ones get two weeks off.

I don’t understand how it’s even brought up as it’s common sense.  Every team wants the first seed.

I think this might be the least important year to have it in quite some time. No team is so dominant that they might be unbeatable at home. TEN has played a ton of close games and could easily lose a home playoff game. The opponent only has to be better that day, not all season. It’s one game. Most years only one of the #1 seeds reaches the Super Bowl.

1st round bye is huge, but unless we get some solid help from Tenn opponents, looks like it’s out of our reach

Wasn't Pittsburgh 11-0 last year when the Bills were 8-3 and the Bills finished ahead of them for seeding?

Pitt was winning then with a lot of the same smoke-and-mirrors act that TN is now..........and it unwound unceremoniously.

Add in that it's still a COVID year and any team could lose it's QB with no notice for 1-2 weeks at a time like what happened today with Pitt or GB last week with Rodgers..........both cost those teams games most likely.........and it's far too early to shedule predict, IMO.

And to illustrate............I think I heard Bill Cowher say this is the first season since the merger that there hasn't been a 0 or 1 loss team at this point of any season..........I think it's never been less predictable than this year.

Other than NE beating them, their remaining games look like W's. Bills almost need to run the table and we need 2-3 more loses. The Rams & Saints did us no favors. That slip looks huge.

Many NFL games this season have shown you cannot just write in W’s .

Bye is bigger than the home field.

It's at the point where the Steelers and Jags games not only cost this team the #1 seed, but very well the division and with another expected easy win against the Falcons on Thur the Pats will move into 1st place of the division and will stay there if the Bills don't beat the Colts.
