The question is whether he can throw a 12 yard out fast enough to not get jumped for a pick 6. It's a valid question, and I believe he's on the fringe. There are many QB's who have gained arm strength after getting into the league. That's why I bump his ceiling up to a Cousins type. If he can gain that ball velocity he could be a gem. you make a good point re velocity— QBs can gain velocity, including through improving on throwing mechanics. Brees and Brady increased their velocity.

Nate stares down the receiver the ENTIRE time, and the DB is squatting in the flat in between the receiver and the ball. He makes a great play on the ball, but that throw wasn’t ever there. Maybe Josh can hurtle it in there before the DB jumps it but I think it’s a pick six or PBU regardless of who is throwing it. The stare down is HORRIFIC. The backside S basically gets there before the ball has reached its target, let alone the DB who is already there. God, Peterman sucks so bad. McBean
I believe in Josh Allen. He has all the tools. He just has to put them all together now. He has always been a 3 year project. With that being said, Fromm will push #17. Mark this post. Fromm comes from a big boy program, has big boy experience, and big boy numbers to back it up. If you cannot throw an out or a deep out, DCs and DBs can take about 25% of the field away from you, which makes inside the hashes a lot harder to complete. All that is left of the sidelines is a lob over the corner and in front of the safety. Of course, rag arms CAN complete an out or a deep out sporadically, but it's dangerous and often deadly. Go to 6:50 where he throws a 40 yard TD against his body that was dropped by the WR. Plenty of arm strength on that one. Only concern is the winds at New Era Field. Think he'll be fine. I came away from that game very unimpressed TBH. Lots of dink and dunk throws...one where his lack of arm strength shows on a intermediate throw to an open receiver in the middle of the field. The throw you referenced was a good throw...although in our stadium he probably can't make it. I don't think he'll be fine, but if he's a cheaper Barkley, I suppose it's an OK move. I believe we need a good backup QB, not a guy who may struggle to make the throws needed in our own building.

I don't want to go through a calculus lesson. Its a good point and part of the reason why Allen struggles with long ball accuracy IMO. Give him more overall size in his WR corp and I believe we will see a better completion % with long ball throws from Josh Allen. Less of an arc on long balls allows more chances for smaller DB's to make a play and less time for a WR to adjust IMO. Its all fine and good to have the ability to throw with velocity. On the other hand you better have an ability to throw with touch or even the easiest pass plays become a problem. Peyton Manning helped win his last Championship with what most would call a noodle arm because he understood what more arc and touch would give him, made the proper adjustments and played within his limitations in my humble opinion. Smart fella, that Manning... Edited April 26, 2020 by Figster

Second is youth that can be further developed on what is already a great baseline. Third, if Allen faulters in anyway be it injury or performance, there is a hungry, capable guy in the pipeline...which is NEVER BAD. Die hard Allen fans feel threatened by this pick, so of course to them he's some trashy 5th rounder who will never make it. The funny thing is they couldn't be more wrong and are blinded by ignorance.
