costrovs
How often do teams extend players that are on year 3 of their rookie contracts to long term deals? Shouldn't we be talking about this after this upcoming season? Or in 2 years if the bills do the 5th year option?
Nester
Little early for Milano imo. makes the whole thing MORE suspect than an unsourced tweet normally is.
Happy
I would think this is just spotrac's guess as to who the Bills will extend and what he views their market value is. It does seem a little early for these three, wait to see how they trend in their fourth year. Some will argue their value will only go up, which I'm not so sure based on the numbers being thrown out there in this tweet.

BillsVet
Miffed at why Matt Milano would be re-signed at 50M over 4 years. Nice player, but not someone I'm handing 12.5M AAV. Not even Star Lotulelei could garner a deal of that magnitude! ;) 1 1

Buffalo_Stampede
Contract seems a little high for Milano. Very good player but I'm not sure he's irreplaceable. We need better depth at the linebacker position though.
machine gun kelly
Unlike it sounds like what many of you are saying, these numbers for all three makes sense to me so the real conundrum is do you pull the trigger now because their value may increase and you use up a bunch of surplus to have $ for upcoming Allen contract if we pick up the 5th year option, and do we want to extend Hyde and Poyer, or will their play diminish by the time their contract goes up. Juxtapose this with buying unfortunately at a premium, but Ngokue, and Hooper, and trying to trade for Diggs. Add that to a nice draft and we could be going much more deep in the playoffs in 2020. We could save $15.3 mil in cap space before we do all of this with dumping Kroft, Smith, and Murphy, and have $99+ mil to spend. Front load as much of the contracts for the two URFA, and maintain Diggs, $14.4 mil for the next four years. The reason is we could place White on the 5th extension next year, and pay Milano and Dawkins next year. Im not saying which is right and wrong approach, but just we have options.

Milano and Dawkins are free agents after the upcoming season (as is Poyer). The only guy that they have a 5th year option available on is Tre. I believe Milano is one of the players Beane has specifically mentioned as upcoming needs to sign our own "draft and develop" guys He also made the point that they won't be crucifying guys who played well all year but made mistakes in the Houston game, nor inflating guys who had meh seasons but stepped up in that one.

They got him in the 5th round. Mid-round picks consistently able to contribute at LB immediately. Every year there are Jayon Browns, DeVondre Campbell’s, Matt Milano’s, and Cory Littleton’s that manage it. I could be wrong, but I think to put that in context one would have to look at how many tackles he makes. One would also have to have something the Bills have, and we lack - knowledge of his responsibility on a play.

His missed tackle rate was 13%; pretty much middling for a starting LB. The guy that missed a bajillion tackles was Jordan Phillips. 24% missed tackle rate ? The Pittsburg "Linebacker U" philosophy that I believe McDermott and Frazier like, is indeed to look for value at LB in the mid-rounds, but it's far more typical for those guys to take a year or two to develop. And I think McDermott and Frazier do feel Milano has a somewhat unique skill set. Milano is a "tweener" who was asked to step up as more of a LB role and did so. Hyde has commented on how unusual he found the Bills personnel choices until he arrived and saw how they used Milano (and how he was able to play).
