Spotrac Guesses on Potential Bills extensions (edited title)

Recommended Posts

How often do teams extend players that are on year 3 of their rookie contracts to long term deals?

Shouldn't we be talking about this after this upcoming season?

Or in 2 years if the bills do the 5th year option?

I would think this is just spotrac's guess as to who the Bills will extend and what he views their market value is.  It does seem a little early for these three, wait to see how they trend in their fourth year.  Some will argue their value will only go up, which I'm not so sure based on the numbers being thrown out there in this tweet.

Double this.

Fix the thread subject OP, something like,  "Potential Bills Extensions, SPORTAC ESTIMATES".

Miffed at why Matt Milano would be re-signed at 50M over 4 years.  Nice player, but not someone I'm handing 12.5M AAV.

Not even Star Lotulelei could garner a deal of that magnitude! ;)

Yup.  Little rich for a LB who struggles to make tackles.

They can re-up Tre any time.

the yearly figure is smaller if it gets done early.

Unlike it sounds like what many of you are saying, these numbers for all three makes sense to me so the real conundrum is do you pull the trigger now because their value may increase and you use up a bunch of surplus to have $ for upcoming Allen contract if we pick up the 5th year option, and do we want to extend Hyde and Poyer, or will their play diminish by the time their contract goes up.  Juxtapose this with buying unfortunately at a premium, but Ngokue, and Hooper, and trying to trade for Diggs.  Add that to a nice draft and we could be going much more deep in the playoffs in 2020.  We could save $15.3 mil in cap space before we do all of this with dumping Kroft, Smith, and Murphy, and have $99+ mil to spend.  Front load as much of the contracts for the two URFA, and maintain Diggs,  $14.4 mil for the next four years.  The reason is we could place White on the 5th extension next year, and pay Milano and Dawkins next year.

Im not saying which is right and wrong approach, but just we have options.

Milano and Dawkins are free agents after the upcoming season (as is Poyer). The only guy that they have a 5th year option available on is Tre.

I don't think Milano gets another contract from the Bills. I think you can improve on him with the draft

FWIW, Matthew Fairburn says it sounds like extensions for White, Dawkins, and Milano are a matter of when, not if and that McBeane view those three as long-term core players.
