Two things though: 1. I would not kick Trent Murphy to the curb - his effort and talent are high level, only injuries have held him back. 2. While still too early to declare Lawson fully “there”, 2a. Fans are WAY too fast to judge young players. MANY here wanted to run Lawson out of town. 2b. Lawson appears to have “gotten it”, but we need to see at least another year of good performance before we agree that he has turned a corner. By far the most annoying thing that occurs on this site. All just to be right. Who cares?

Agreed, for perspective, those impatient folks would have run the following stars out of town: OJ Simpson failed to gain more than 750 yards in his first 3 seasons, yet ran for 2000 in the next season- in 14 games (vs today’s 16) Troy Aikman in his first 3 seasons threw for 31 TDS vs 46 INTS. Steve Young had 11 TDS and 21 INTS in his first 2 seasons. A little closer to home, check out: Eric Moulds averaged 25 catches and 1 TD in his first 2 years. Bruce Smith had 6.5 sacks his first year. 4

Yep. I remember during 1987 the talk was Bruce Smith was a waste of a number 1 overall pick and we should have drafted Ray Childress (DL) who went to the Oilers. Ironically, during the SB years Childress was available to us via trade. Maybe he would have been a difference maker against Dallas?
mannc
I just loved seeing the fire from Shaq and the team. Wish we saw it last year when Gronk assaulted Tre White. Or when Landry cheap-shotted A Williams.

Shaq is under the last year of his rookie contract in 2019, they could also option him for 2020 but I am not sure they will do it as a 5th year option is usually expensive. So I think Shaq is here for at least one more season.

Then my answer changes to Decline the 5th year, because he's not worth that, and see what happens next year. I think there's a pretty close to zero chance he blows up into a star player, but he'll be a contributing rotational player.

Matt_In_NH
The defense was definitely energized after that incident. But man they did not like tackling Fournette. Him not playing in the fourth was instrumental

But Shaq at this moment isn't worth 10.3, you would be picking that up on speculation. Then again they might just want to see how 2019 plays out and at worst franchise him. PittsforDave
Shaq got ejected in the 3rd quarter because he can’t control his rage...then had to be restrained again in the tunnel on his way to the locker room. He had a bad day and Coach does not like guys who is over emotional. This could’ve been the nail.

He was NOT defending his teammate, that much is very obvious. What was he doing in the tunnel? He had to be held back by 4 large men because of his out of control rage. Not a good look for Lawson. You're 100% wrong about this. McDermott was very clear in his presser that he wants the players to defend themselves. He wasn't just spouting coach speak. If anything I think this raised his opinion of Shaq.

TBBills Fan
I like lawsons play. This is his third year right? The light seems to be on for him now..... And to really add the whip creme on top next year will be that 4th year, meaning his work next year will reflect if he gets the 5th year option and his next contract essentially so we may be loving shaq by the end of next year
dbmu1977
Someone should start a go fund me to pay Shaq's fine as a thank you for knocking fourtnet out of the game. The rest did scrappy job. I thought #50 should have got a flag late in the game for knocking Allen down.. That was chippy bs and they already had the bench clearing brawl. HumbleAndHungry
Shaw Lawson fighting Leonard Fournette is like Patty Kaleta fighting Ovechkin. Our bishop took their queen . Roundybout
I dogged on Shaq a lot, but since he's moved to the interior and I don't have to see his patented "spinaroonie of doom" on some tackle, I've been impressed. He's not an all star, but I would resign him to something like 5 years, 30 million.

Dadonkadonk
Lawson has been solid but not great all year. PED Murphy has been awful or hurt. Lawson should see twice as many snaps as Murphy every game.

Formerly Allan in MD
Hope he got a game ball for removing Fournette from the game. Livinginthepast
In a weird hockey fan kind of way I have way more respect for Lawson after that altercation than ever before. It was stupid for him to throw punches against a helmeted player no doubt but baiting Fournette and getting him kicked out, was the game changing moment. It reminded me of so many hockey fights in the 80s when a fight or brawl completely changed the entire momentum of the game. The Bills got mad and the crowd got into it. The Jags for all their fake swagger didn't man up and the Bills did. It woke up everybody on that Bills sideline even McD! I loved it!

Bob in STL
Coach McD handled it correctly after the game. He expects his team to stick up for each other, not to back down, and no further punishment will be made by him on Lawson. I think coach McD earns even more credibility oin the locker room too. He seemed to like having blood on his sweatshirt. Fighting is not a good thing but that escalated quickly and helped fire up the Bills. The Jags had the ball, first down on the 1 in a tie 14-14 game ... and they ended up with 0 points. Yes indeed, the game changed after that play. blacklabel
Lawson has been playing well even if he's not showing up in a big way on the stat sheet every week. His versatility to bounce between DE and DT is big for this team. He's very sound in his assignments, he's been getting more pressure on the QB, plays the run well, etc. He's played well enough to retain the starting job over Murphy who was healthy and active this week and was only in there after Lawson was ejected. I don’t think anyone was playing the run well yesterday. The Bills were fortunate that LF lost his mind because that was gross. I can see where Shaq’s anger was coming from. They were getting slapped around long before the scuffle. I liked the emotion, The crowd and team seemed to feed off of it.
