Good to see them come alive.  The speed element from Foster and McKenzie, along with Teller at LG, and Barkley at QB made a difference.

I still think it takes a WR 2 or 3 years to get good and hopefully while developing he is building a rapport with his QB.

Depends on the player, the system, and the supporting cast.  See Calvin Ridley or JuJu Smith-Schuster as examples.

Oh dear, he played one decent but not great game.  Until now he has been a solid bust.  99% of the folks on this board did not want him cut and 99% thought it was too soon to declare his career a bust.  Some of us listed him as a surprise cut and with the off-season craziness that was plausible even though unlikely thus the word surprising.

Now let's hope he continues to play well.  He doesn't and will never have elite speed  or even quickness. But he has more than adequate size and if his route running is good and his hands get better the can be a solid #2.

It's rather tough playing decent games when you have no one to get the ball to you with any consistency and you're playing hurt as well.

Good examples.

Was McKenzie on the practice squad?

To me it's hard to say giving the QB and OL situations.  Yes he had some games where he had crucial drops as a rookie.  Outside of that however, we really couldn't grade his rookie season because of the QB play.  He was also playing through an injury the entire time.  This season I'd argue the same thing, it's tough to gauge WR play when the QB play is not where it needs to be.  Well except for when you do the opposite of what you are paid to do, ie, see Kelvin Benjamin.  His play is easy to grade.

Jerry Rice was ok first year, broke out second (getting near 1,000 yards).

Cris Carter had his breakout in season five.

Tim Brown was year six.

Andre Reed was year four.

Those are are the top receivers in the NFL Hall of Fame. You can keep going down the list and it’s generally the same: it takes time for most receivers to adjust their game to the pro level.

It’s amazing how things turn with a win.  Not much more than 10 days ago Zay was a bust and the o-Line was the worst in the NFL.

Our OL was ranked around 24th overall a week ago by PFF. This could bump them up by 4 or 5 spots. We still need a new C and OT, though. Maybe a G too. As far as Zay goes, I just hope this game marks a turning point for him.

One of my favorite Bills WRs - Eric Moulds - had as much production in year

My 2nd favorite Bills WR of all-time, Eric Moulds, had twice as many yards in Year 3  (1368) as Year 1 (279) and Year 2 (294) combined.

After an unimpressive start to his career, Moulds averaged just about 1,000 yards per season from his 3rd NFL season to his 10th, despite some injuries.

Some WRs need time to blossom.  Hopefully Zay's best years lie ahead.

My favorite example of this was the duo on the 1996 Jags (although still angry they beat us in the playoffs that year). Keenan McCardell and Jimmy Smith were both fifth year receivers with zero 1000 yard seasons between them (in fact, only McCardell had a season with more than 300 yards while Smith had barely made it to the field), who would go on to notch 14 1k yard seasons.

Neither did Jerry Rice but guess what.

Not saying hes Jerry b but he doesnt need elite speed to be good.  A lot of people said Woods couldnt be a #2  guess what It looks an awful lot like they were correct.  Cant be a 2 when youre a 1.
