Bills would have “strongly considered” Mason Rudolph at 22

Yep this solidifies it for me.

There top 3 were:

Darnold

Allen

Rudolph

I agree. All three are big, pocket passers. I couldn’t imagine them going Mayfield or Jackson. I think they’d had just about enough of a QB running around in the backfield.

I wouldn’t have been as nice about that pick (especially considering he would have been an option at 65).

You would never have known that if they picked him at 22

I said before the draft that it wasn't my first choice, but I would not mind taking Roquan at 12, then Rudolph or Jackson at 22 and keeping the rest of our picks. That would go for Edmunds, too. I wouldn't mind Edmunds, Rudolph, and then having the two second rounder and taking Chark or Pettis or even James Washington for Rudolph and one of the good OL still available.

Denver was rumored to be very high on Rudolph. I can't blame them for passing in the 2nd and taking WR Courtland Sutton, but they had a chance to nab him in the 3rd, but opted for RB Royce Freeman. For their sake I hope Rudolph doesn't pan out... Actually, screw the Broncos, I hope Rudolph does pan out so their fans can lament the fact they took a RB over a starting QB. Shades of TJ Graham over Russell Wilson.

lol Darnold is by no means a pocket passer.  He was constantly running around

Would have been Jackson at 22 for me,  but yes keeping 53, 56, and 65 could have helped. I was for moving up however.

Maybe the greatest QB draft class in a while wasn't?

From a "prospect potential" aspect, it certainly was the best in a while. Just because Rudolph slid to the 3rd round doesnt mean teams wouldnt have picked him earlier had the draft played out differently. But once the run on QBs by desperate teams was complete by pick 10, the rest could shift focus elsewhere.

Only time will tell whether any of them are successful in the league. But for now, it was a great class if you needed a QB.

makes we want to crawl out on the ledge again....

All the kid ever did was throw touchdowns, complete passes and win football games against some of the best teams in the country. What makes him worse than a guy that did none of those things?

I mentioned in another thread but Steelers are chirping that  they had a 1st round grade on him

They said immediately after taking him in their presser that he was the best player on their board when they took Washington but with the run on receivers they had to take Washington there in the 2nd and they got pretty much straight off the phone to Washington and started trying to trade up for Rudolph.

Pittsburgh believe they have drafted their next Quarterback, make no mistake. I believe they have also.

Then why not take him in the second?

I think that's them trying to convince themselves he's good.

Because of the run on receivers which they considered a more immediate need. That is their public explanation in any event. But Pittsburgh did more work on Rudolph than any other team in the league. I have been saying for weeks that is where he would end up. They don't need to convince themselves he is good. They are already convinced.

If they thought he was so good and had a first round grade there is no reason to wait until the third and risk missing on him.

Their reason would be they have a franchise Quarterback and were not in "must have" mode. It wouldn't surprise me if the Steelers had a 1st round grade on Rudolph. It was reported by multiple outlets before the draft that a "handful" of teams saw him as a 1st rounder and no team spent as much time scouting Rudolph as the Steelers. Equally it wouldn't surprise me if they had a 2nd on him.

Teams have a good idea of which QBs other teams are looking at. This is the best place of Rudolph to make it tho. Hes probobly in the best place out of all the QBs.

I think the biggest reason Rudolph dropped was because his throws have no zip on the ball. I read that Allen throws it 10 miles an hour faster than Rudolph. Probably one of the reasons why the Bills parted with the 2 second round picks instead of settling for Rudolph.

That should scare the **** out of every Bills' fan.  Rudolph. :death:

The Steelers thought Rudolph was the best QB among the top six...I am sure their scouting abilities are far better!

Certainly not for a WR from this class. But hey, they still have Ben and in the 3rd it doesn't carry much risk if he doesn't turn out to be anything special. That's a very different position than our Bills were in.
