Aaron Donald $ Details for Acquiring Team if Traded (Sports Illustrated Article)

Recommended Posts

Trading Donald would be the toughest move of general manager Les Snead’s career. One could argue it would also be a smart one.

Donald, 32, is entering the twilight of his career. He currently has two years left on his deal with the Rams, including cap hits of $26 million and $34.1 million before a void year in 2025. Meanwhile, Los Angeles is short on talent and long on needs.

If the Rams trade Donald post–June 1, they save $35.1 million over the upcoming two seasons while also netting much-needed draft capital.
On that front, the picks should be excellent considering Donald is the best defensive player of his era,
and would cost the acquiring team only $13.5 million and $10 million, respectively.

You're gonna earn the nickname "Madden Boy" pretty soon.

What do you think it would cost/draft capital to acquire?

Donald has contemplated retirement for 1+ year, are you willing to risk this isn't just a 1 year rental?

How do we fit the 13.5m under cap this year, is Ed traded somewhere/cut?  Are Rams interested in Ed, why?

More important to Bills fans unless Donald is moved to AFC Competition.    Did not think the speculation was worth new thread,

Quote

Gabriel Davis, Bills, WR

Let’s be clear: It’s very unlikely the Bills move on from Davis this summer in the midst of a potential Super Bowl season. However, there’s a case for it.

Davis is entering the final year of his rookie deal. Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane knows his cap sheet moving forward is stuffed, including nine players next year who have cap hits of at least $10 million. Davis will command good money, making his inclusion going forward no small feat.

Lastly, if the Bills decide to go all-in on DeAndre Hopkins this season, Davis could be expendable for a quality draft pick, which means a cheaper contract down the road.

I could be wrong but I highly doubt Donald plays on a new team without a new deal.

So I don't buy that you can have him for only $13.5 and $10 million over the next two years.

I think the Rams missed the chance at getting real compensation for him. Guy is a beast but he’s about done. He’d have to go somewhere he really wants to be or he’ll probably just retire like he’s been flirting with the last couple years.

Not sure you're response here is an assumption that the OP posted one of those "Go get him Beane" type threads, but OP mentioned nothing about Bills or even implied about Bills getting him, lol but anyways

Hahaha.  Was going to say the same thing last week.

Rams are in a rebuild. More so than trade capital, could be a salary dump, and also at the request of Donald. Silly to hold him prisoner under the circumstances.

Could be a proper storm for a trade. Unlikely here, but would hope we kick the tires. A winner in the locker room is always good

I was going to say the same thing.

or most likely going for Chandler Jones. Pass rush is still a huge need for us and if he could be had that cheap with an option year the following year, it’s almost a no brainer.

Aaron Donald is the most dominant player I've ever seen.  That said, he has 1 foot out the door.

I guess it could be worth it for a contender who wants him on a year or 2 rental and is willing to mortgage the future a bit for a chance at a Lombardi, I just don't see it here.

I do agree that he would likely want new a new deal. However, if a team is trading for him and giving him a new deal they can structure it a lot of diff ways including adding void years to minimize the cap hit as well. I believe they could even structure it back loaded so his actual cap hits are LESS than that $13.5 and $10 million the first two years as well.

If he goes anywhere it's back home to Pittsburgh, IMO.

That defense would be sick

The AFCN might have the best rivalries out of all the divisions. Those four teams really hate each other, and they usually beat the **** out of each other as well. Anything to make it harder for the Bengals is a good thing.

I hear you. But we've pushed a LOT of money into the future already. Is Donald enough of a difference maker still at this point in his career to continue to do that?

I"d like to think when Diggs and Von are done (and maybe a few other guys) in a couple years that we can reload with some younger guys who will want big contracts. I guess it's the "all in now" vs. competitive every year philosophy. If getting Donald wins us the SB, ore makes us far more likely to win, I'm good with it. Does he make that much of a difference still?

He absolutely is. No question about it.

Now, I don't see the Bills making this move, but it's not because of financial reasons. I don't think Beane would feel good about giving up the draft compensation that the Rams would likely be looking for if they choose to move him.  And I can't blame him there. As fans it's easy to sit here and scream "DON'T CARE HOW...I WANT IT NOW" all sounding like Veruca from the Willie Wonka movie. But mortgaging the future is a risky endeavor and one that if it doesn't work out has far reaching consequences on not only his job security, but the job security of everyone under him.

I agree, with the DHop situation looking like he wants more than OBJ money, I think he might be priced out.  An M Evans trade could be interesting.

Also Chandler Jones is intriguing to me.  What would the Raiders be looking for to move over only a $1.6M cap hit this year.

Speaking of Aaron Donald - have you seen his Uber Eats commercial?

An Uber Eats delivery is late because Aaron Donald is helping an elderly Asian lady across the street with her holding his arm.

The lady is Eileen Saki who died recently )May 1) and played Rosie on M*A*S*H in 9 episodes.

It so reminded me of walking with my wife's mother in Hong Kong.

I get a feeling Aaron Donald will try his hand at acting post NFL career.

I’d do 3rd this year and a third next year.  Throw in Oliver too

I think a minimum of a 1st be needed to get him. IMO the Bengals would be a good fit for him. They need more D talent to compliment that O talent.. and we’ll best to win now while in the rookie contract window..

People forget he's only played 9 seasons in the league. He's getting up there, but can certainly still produce. Compare that to Von, who has played 12 seasons & is about to enter year 13.

Obviously different positions, but considering Donald is considered by many to be the best DT ever, I'd be confident he could still be productive for another couple years. Do I think Buffalo will get him? No, but I still think he'll be an asset for whoever gets him.

If I was a Guard and walked up to the LOS and saw Cam Heyward and Aaron Donald standing over there, I'd probably grab my hamstring and throw myself on the ground.
