NFL grants YouTube TV exclusive NFL Sunday Ticket rights in the US starting in 2023(deal worth $2B+)

Wow...wonder how much the deal was for and this likely will help the cap go up even more...Wall Street Journal reporting the deal is worth $2B+.  I guess probably not that much since they already had a deal in place for it and it just is switching(but likely at a higher rate)

Yes, live.  NFL+ provides replays.

 

I am so thankful that awful deal with AT&T and Direct TV is over with.  Where i am located AT&T tried to place you into cable bondage just to get the Sunday Ticket.  I refused to do so because among the requirements was a long term contract. Not to mention DirectTV burned me about a decade ago and I went from loyal customer to hating them with a passion.

On the other hand, I'm not happy about the Ticket landing on YouTube TV, which is also wildly overpriced.

 

I would have greatly preferred Amazon, Apple, Disney, or any other service that doesn't bundle football with a bunch of other channels that I don't want.

Was hoping it would be Amazon since I already have prime and think they've done a good job with the thurs games.  Looks like I'll have to subscribe to yet another streaming service.  At least I don't have to give Apple any of my money

Reporting on it now says it will be available a la Carte like for those who were allowed to get the streaming package from Directv. $300-400 a season

They should just sell games individually for $10.99 each week or something like that and you can pick and choose which ones you want, instead of forcing people to pay hundreds of dollars a year

This would be great.  Literally everything I watch except for live sports is from a streaming service.  I do not want DTV, cable, or a cable alternative.  Who even watches live television with commercials in 2022?

Do any of the "free" options consistently work throughout the entire stream, though? No freezing, no excessive buffering, that kind of nonsense?

I'm legitimately asking, because I've been paying for NFL Gamepass for the past few years to ensure that I get high video quality and that the game actually works and doesn't have all sorts of tech hiccups.

In your experience, are the free streams actually GOOD?

Yeah, literally all of them. Never had an issue with the streams. They are fantastic.

YouTube TV streaming the NFL is fine with me as long as it is dependable and the cost isn't outrageous. The direc-tv deal we had going due to customer loyalty was free the last several years

 

But a 30 second delay seriously? blech. I dont like the sounds of That. Hopefully they can fix

Sunday ticket was on a delay as well. Not sure if it was standardized or not but the only reliable way of knowing what’s going on at the game in real time is either by being there yourself or following along with the lines at a Sportsbook.

Unfortunately, Google will probably monetize this better than DirecTV did.  There will not be a "retention department" to call.

 

Anyone expecting some kind of ala carte thing will be disappointed.   The value of Sunday ticket is fans out of the market of their team....that is what will generate most of the money.  They "give" you everything even though you can only watch one 1PM and one 4PM game.

whoa I had no idea of that. I was just thinking of the confusion between what we would see on TV vs say a radio call.

That would be one hot mess. And imagine the chatroom confusion  too it would be horrific

There is a delay going through outer space vs fiber and RF down on earth.  There is a delay on the network too, just not as big.

Yes there are many free options, but they all more of a pain to implement and sometimes don't work flawlessly, ie: spooking IP, using illegal streaming sites. 

 

As someone who lives outside the western NY viewing area I've used these methods to watch any and all games and while they've always ultimately worked, it's not without some fussing.

 

Overall the answer will be depends on the price, if they make it real expensive then would still use the other methods, but I'd pay maybe $300 to $400 for the convenience.

How is YouTube TV wildly overpriced?  My cable service cost more and then you had all the additional broadcast fees on top of it.  It's easily the best streaming TV service available at the moment.

We got Sunday Ticket in Rochester because the 2nd game was always Jets/Giants/Dallas - not anything we wanted to watch.

 

It has been better with the Bills playing more Primetime games - we watch multiple games on different TVs and rarely is it the garbage the networks choose for your area.

 

Plus a game gets boring or out of hand and we switch it up.

 

I love the package cause I choose what I want to see and we will probably look to YouTube going forward - happy to Move on after 25 years.

I perfer Fubo, but YouTub appears to be right there for cost+content.  Fubo provides some regional sports networks.

Everyone would just pay $10.99 for their game and they would get less revenue. Do you think people would pay $110 to get 10 games when they can only watch 2 at the most?

there is always a delay unless you are at the game in-person.  Streaming has a longer delay, causes some chat room confusion sometimes, but others you know an awesome play--or horrendous play, or someone writes something ambiguous--is coming up.

I agree that is a benefit but the amount of people willing to pay for that is not that many compared to say Bills fans who live in FL.   Many people would like the benefit you are talking about but not willing to pay for it.

What do you mean 10 games? If people wanted to, they could pay $10.99 for any game they want each week. If fans chose to do that each week, that's $180 for 18 weeks. Some people may pay for 2 games a week. It would be more affordable to everyone this way

this is true, although Google will probably offer some sorts of discounts tied to other things, as well as having a better online platform.  I'm just hoping we can get Sunday Ticket separate from having to get YouTube TV.  I have Fubo, that has my regional sports network here, allowing me to get Pens games, and ACC sports.
