Zay demoted behind Deonte

Good call. Jones was absolutely invisible yesterday. I focused on him a few times -in the game and on the sidelines. Deer in the headlights.

When it comes to WR decisions in the off season, I hope Beane doesn’t even consider he’s on the team. I’d hate to take a pass on a quality vet ‘because we have Zey’..

What WR (or any player for that matter) didn’t look like a deer in headlights yesterday playing in a foot of snow?  I think Zay Jones has a bright future for this team as a slot WR.

I hope that they dont overlook the correct TYPE of receiver.

This team still lacks the true burner that gets behind the defense....need at least one good one on the team.  Thompson is the closest thing.

i like what deonte has brought to the team. hr seems like a nice contributor. i think that zay is a good kid with a lot of talent/ he has shown flashes here and there but has also been wildly inconsistent. i think all he needs is that one game where he gets targeted a ton and the ball keeps coming his way. i think it is only a matter of time (and targets) for him.

Here Is the weird part. Jones sucks the first like 8 games of the year but they continue to play him over Thompson. Jones finally looks like he is coming around as a player the past few weeks, and now they demote him?... Why wouldn't they do this earlier in the year if anything?

Deonte had an okay catch in a fluke game and with an absolute dime of a throw. He really hasn't shown anything all year, why is the board suddenly anointing him king playmaker??

An "okay" catch? Really?

He's actually made several key grabs this season. No one is anointing him king anything just yet but there really isn't a question that he's been a better playmaker than Zay this year. Glad to see him get the promotion.

Yeah that's what I'm trying to figure out. He's looked like the best wr on the field the last few weeks(not saying much with benjamin out and matthews hobbled).

I think he's made some other "contested" catches this year.  Also, he's a solid blocker.

this is hard to figure out.  Are we sure Jones has been demoted?  Could he be the slot guy with KB and DT on the outside.  Hard to figure out the passing game WR wise after yesterday!

Ya I didn't see much of him. I wasn't sure if he was injured or not but I guess lost playing time to Thompson

Bills offensive coordinator Rick Dennison said Monday he anticipates wide receivers Deonte Thompson and Zay Jones splitting time moving forward based on game plan. Thompson started Sunday opposite Kelvin Benjamin, playing 85 percent of snaps. Jones, who began as the No. 3/slot receiver, played 61 percent of snaps and saw his role elevated when Benjamin left in the second half twice with a knee injury.

Zay will eventually fall into the BIlls dustbin of defeat and despair, have some lacklustre seasons on the roster and then demand a trade to a team that actually knows how to utilize his talents.

Meanwhile, back in Buffalo...........

So is splitting time a real demotion?

I really like how Zay has been coming along, but I do like this move. Hard to keep Thompson off the field when all he seems to do is make plays.

Hopefully Zay keeps his head up and keeps progressing. I still say he's going to be a heckuva player.

ZJ is not a speed guy or great after the catch, but he does know how to get open and in the past had very good hands.  I think in time we'll see we've found the next Bobby Chandler -- and if you don't know who that is, all I can say is you missed a lot of great Bills games before you were born.

Zay does struggle to get separation against top tiered DB's.    I'm hoping route running can help with that, but more than anything I'm hoping he becomes the slot receiver and we end up drafting or picking up a true #2 to go along with him and Benjamin.

You think its gonna be Mayfield?  Gonna be an exciting April for us. What about the "tyrods too short debate" vs mayfields height?

I think it's gonna be the best QB on the board when we get to our first pick in the first round, whether that's ours or KC's.  I think we need the other first rounder for ... well, fill in the blank.  WR, LB, DL, OL, CB.  Basically the only position on the team that doesn't need more good players is RB and even then we should be looking for Shady to start losing it.  So I don't think we can package a lot of draft picks to move up a couple of slots.

I'm not sold on Mayfield, who seems to be a good cog in a great machine and not necessarily a great QB on his own.

You mean someone like Marquis Goodwin?

Right. I guess well see as its gonna be beanes 1st draft running things. It should tell us if he lets the board come to him or trades up for who he wants.

Deonte has had two big plays which directly led to us winning both this past game abd the TB game. Zay has had like zero.  Hard to argue with that.

Although I'd still like to know why Thompson can't get much separation deep when he runs a 4.3 40...he's faster than Watkins but Watkins gets way more open than him.
