From what I am seeing, as long as the Chargers, Ravens or Titans lose one game over the next two weeks we are in. As long as we beat Miami in week 17.

Why are we giving up on the patriots* game ?

i know it’s a long shot especially on the road , but you know what they say ,

what happens if we win BOTH remaining games are we in ? Or do we still need help ?

that just goes to show how much of the Bills games they actually watch.

Yes, because if they'd have looked at Bills games, they'd see ABYSMAL offense in the Carolina, Jets (2), Saints and NE (1) games above and beyond the SD game.

...if we lose to the Pats*** this week, is there a scenario where we go into Week 17 knowing that if we beat the Fins we are in for sure (without any other help in Week 17)?

Too many scenarios to keep track of this...

Joe B lays out the 44 different ways Bills make Playoffs

Ravens must lose to Indy and Tenny must lose to the Rams this weekend. That is the simplest solution

more likely chargers lose to jets, my man.

you are correct.    But its the NYETS !!!

Select Win % then toggle Colts.   I see that as  a better possibility.  But what do I know.

50 ways to those your wildcard

Not that it matters but

NE must win out to secure the #1 seed.

the Jets gave the Saints all they could handle.

It is like looking at the Power Rankings.  You could tell that no one pays attention but to headlines.

4-29 vs Patriots since 2001.

I'm on the move so can't check the playoff machine. But are some of you under the impression it is better for the Bills to lose to NE* and beat Miami than for them to win both games? That can't possibly be right, can it?

I understand if the Bills split these next two games, beating Miami is more advantageous.  But it can't be as advantageous as winning both---can it?

So if I'm correct here, there is no "reasonable reason" to root for the Bills to lose this weekend

If the Bills win out, that is a great thing.

However, if the Ravens & Titans also win out, then the Bills miss the playoffs at 10-6.

The Ravens or Titans would have to finish at 9-7 in order for the Bills to make the playoffs in this scenario.

I understand that. But how is it better for the Bills to lose against the Pats*?  I think some here have confused things.

The Bills DO NOT control their own destiny, at least not yet. My feeling is, if they win out, they will likely make the playoffs---but it isn't certain, by a longshot.

Yes, if the Bills are going to win only one of the next two, it is probably better to beat the Fins (given the way the tiebreakers might play out). But it is much better for the Bill to win BOTH games. I just can't figure out why some are rooting against the Bills, this coming weekend. Any explanation for that?

I found it confusing myself.

FACTOR in either a Chargers loss or a Ravens loss in week 16.

Per the ESPN playoff machine the Bills can defeat the Pats then lose to Miami and the result puts the Bills out of the WC.

Reverse the 2 and they are in.

It makes little sense.

Yes it is bizarre.

My guess is that people know that even with a loss this weekend, the Bills can still get into the playoffs.

Of course the Bills could get into the playoffs with a win this week and a loss next week.

No matter what, I am cheering for the Bills to win on Sunday.

I'm thinking we fans root for one win at a  time, and hope for both. Of course it's not LIKELY the Bills will beat the Cheaters, but it ain't impossible! Unbelievable how some are just putting this in the L column.

I think there is some confusion here.  I cannot see anyway in which we would benefit from losing to the Pats.  If we are going to lose one of the last 2 games it would be better to lose the Pats game because of the common opponents tie break.  However, I cannot think of any scenario where it would be better to finish 1-1 than 2-0.  In any scenario where we would make the playoffs at 1-1, we would also make the playoffs at 2-0. Go Bills

The thought process is likely this:

2-0 would be great, but you know, not many wins against New England in the Brady era.

Taking that into account, IF they go 1-1 instead, it is better for the Bills loss to come against the Patriots than the Dolphins, as the Dolphins are a common opponent between the Bills, Ravens and Titans (along with the Raiders, Colts and Bengals) and would give the Bills the best shot at winning tie breakers at 9-7.

Winning against New England and losing against Miami means they would need a lot of help, as they then lose the common games tiebreaker with Baltimore. I believe they would need the either the Titans and the Chargers both to go 8-8, or those two and Baltimore at 9-7 to make it without beating Miami.
