Last 2 weeks KJ has gotten a jersey on gameday. Poona Ford has not. Gotta believe with the way Oliver/Jones have played and Phillips/Settle not likely going anywhere....Poona may be the more expendable player. Now, KJ may be inactive on GameDay when Von comes back...bit I don't think he goes anywhere.

I looked for something better as a point of discussion and gave up, but this will do

 

 

 

Different teams do things a bit differently, but there's a numbers game on the roster.

 

The Bills roster breaks down:

QB - 2

RB- 3

FB-1

OL- 10

TE - 3

WR - 5

Total 24

 

DE - 5 (+ need to add Von Miller within 21 days)

DT - 5

LB - 5

CB - 7 (now 6 with Tre headed to IR)

S - 4

Total 26

 

Specialist - 3

 

Now I can't tell you what the Bills are going to do.  But we just lost a DT off our practice squad in Ankou. 

So would it really make sense to cut Ford (leaving us with 4 DT, and no backup if one of them is injured), in order to run with 6 DE?

 

Just as a numbers game in maintaining a balanced roster with options in case of injury, I don't see it.

 

We've been running with 1 more CB than we normally would.  I think we may just not sign another CB and let Miller take Tre's spot, if they like Jonathan enough that they don't want to risk him to waivers.

I tend to agree. I think they’re comfortable at CB for at least a few weeks. Elam has been a healthy scratch, so he’s basically taking Tre’s gameday roster spot. And if the Bills want more safety net, they have 3 call-ups each for the two CBs on the practice squad. 
 

So I think one of the options the Bills are thinking about is just swapping Tre for Miller. Unless they already IR’d Tre and signed someone else and I missed it - in that case, I think Shaq Lawson would be the most likely cut. I think the Bills would hope to get Shaq back on the practice squad, but would also be willing to part ways with him if necessary. 
 

Lawson is probably better than Kingsley Jonathan right now, or at least the coaches trust him more. But I don’t think Lawson got much interest this past offseason, and he might be willing to stick around in case of injury.

Lawson has played well this year and tied for total pressures in one of the games IIRC. I think Kingsley would go before Lawson.

To date, Lawson has had a surprising (to me) large share of snaps - 96 (45%).  Jonathan only has 19 (9%).

 

So in terms of playing time/contribution to date, you're certainly correct about the rank order.

 

But I think it's possible that @Cash is correct and the Bills may go with 5 DT, 6 DE for now, and take 1 less guy at CB.

Injury settlements have to be agreed to by a team and player/agent. They are almost always used in cases in which a young player wants to get back in the field ASAP. Obviously that doesn’t apply here.

 

Tre’s contract has a $1.5M roster bonus due at the start of the next league year. That is very important in cases in which a player has sustained a football injury because that means they can’t simply be cut. But that’s why roster bonuses exist. Teams are under no obligation to pay them (except when they are guaranteed). That is likely what happens here. Tre is a Bill until March of next year when the Bills decline to pay the roster bonus.

The difference is, unlike Rodgers, if Tre can come back in time for the playoffs...he'll actually have a chance to play.

Yeah, I mean Shaq is playing and Kingsley isn’t, so obviously he’s ahead today. But keep in mind that Shaq’s snap counts have been inflated by playing in garbage time the last 3 weeks. When Von is back and actually ready to play, someone at DE will have to play less, and I think that’s Shaq. Kingsley already doesn’t play, but they weren’t willing to cut him in preseason and I don’t think that’ll change now. 
 

As for Lawson? I think they only cut him if they really need the spot. I don’t think they’d cut him just to sign a CB who’ll be inactive on game day. (And if they sign another CB but keep Elam as a healthy scratch, I’ll be shocked.)

He has, but he had a bit of a struggle day against the Phish, imo.

Kingsley is younger and has some legit upside, I think I'd be surprised to see the Bills let him get away.

My experience with both ACL and Achilles (I've had both done) is that the Achilles is far less likely to impact speed than the ACL.  The Achilles repair is so easy and so durable that all you have to do is re-strengthen that calf muscle.  If you don't, you will lose speed and you will feel like you are running on a flat tire.  A professional rehab should avoid that problem.

Did Tre get the same surgery that has Aaron Rodgers WAY ahead of the traditional timetable for return?  Apparently Rodgers is 3x further along and some are saying he could even be back by December now. This new procedure comes with a 12-14 week timetable for a return to play according to the doctor who performed it.

im infinitely skeptical of an Achilles being that quick and being able to be remotely mobile. Which given a poor line are they really racing him back for garbage games where he may not be able to protect himself? Would be a very jets move I guess.

I’m fairly certain he’s loaded up with HGH. What’s the rules regarding drug tests and injuries? 
 

Manning avoided a positive test while his wife was ordering it for her “skin care routine” or whatever. 

EDIT: I’m fairly certain that at this point in his career Aaron would play chicken with the league to suspend him for loading up on HGH. Then gaslight the entire world and say “the world is just so against alternative medicines that it’s a league conspiracy to keep him quiet. They said it couldn’t be done, but he showed us by having Orca sploodge shakes every morning.

Lost to the Chiefs by 3, beat the Bills, beat the Eagles(while missing BOTH starting corners).

 

Those are 3 of the best teams in the NFL and they have gone 2-1 with a narrow loss.

 

This is with mostly garbage QB play and an offense that can't score points.

 

Their D makes them a threat to win any game, I wouldn't be so sure they are just going to fall off.

Sure Aaron Rodgers might have the mobility of a Drew Bledsoe or Dan Marino but he could still play.
