mrags
Need to start pumping this thread again. It’s obvious the Bills aren’t going to trade for DHop. So we need to make sure they know we mean business. I think if we get both threads to 200 before the draft they will have to either trade for one, pick one up as a FA or take nothing but WRs in every round of the draft. One of them has to work out. 1 1 1 1 1

No one's coming close to that price. Mecole Hardman just signed for 6.2. OBJ isn't even getting 10. If he wants his big contract, he's going to have to sign for the best deal he'll get this season on a one year deal, prove he's worth it, and then try again. Bet he's waiting for after the Draft and hoping a team that's desperate will up their price. But $15m? Never going to happen. I wouldn't pay that and I doubt Beane will either. 6.5 base on a 1 year deal. Add a voidable year of funny money that you can use to bump up his signing bonus on the 1 year deal. Bringing it close to 8 million between base and bonuses. Take it or leave it. From the sounds of it, that's a lot better than he's being offered and might be the best he's going to get on a prove it deal. Which if he wants anywhere near what he's asking is what he's going to have to do. Prove it with us this year, cash in next year. ColoradoBills
$15M per year on a long-term deal. If Beane signed him to that I'd make him pee in a cup. OBJ has said he would like to play for a contender and find a place that could serve as “home,” meaning he’d like a long-term deal. The Bills, Giants, Jets and Chiefs are among the teams that could still be interested in the firmer Pro Bowler. 1

I'm not sure if that's accurate or a case of someone spitballing what they think it is. But when it comes down to it, he's going to have two options. a.) He takes the best offer he's given. Which is most likely going to be a 1 year prove it deal so he can try and get closer to what he wants next season. b.) He doesn't play Football this season. Which, if he doesn't, he'll probably never play again. Because at his age, coming off the injury he had, and being 2 years removed from the game - his price will go down further, if anyone wants to sign him. I still say offer him 6-7 with incentives to earn more and a voidable year added on to boost his signing bonus or keep him if he proves that worth this season. He's not going to sign for that now, if his asking price is nowhere near that. But when push comes to shove and he realizes what his options are - it probably will be the best he's going to get. Eventually when push comes to shove, he'll realize this just is what his market is and take one of them. I'd be surprised if one of those offers isn't ours. So it's either someone like Quentin Johnson, Jordan Addison, Zay Flowers, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, or Jalin Hyatt in Round 1 or a veteran FA like OBJ or someone in a trade. Addison and Hyatt are both 6'0" - which is the same height as Stefon Diggs. Hyatt runs a 4.4 40 and graded out best overall amongst all WR's at the Combine according to NFL.com's metrics. So while i'd prefer a taller WR, 6' even is fine if you have the experience playing Outside and have above average qualities elsewhere such as speed and route running. Agreed on Johnston though. He is my favorite. Though he has some issues with contested catches. I think he will be gone, but it wouldn't shock me if he fell due to some inconsistent game footage and teams falling for JSN, Flowers, and Hyatt. Even as small as Diggs is as a #1 he still weighs in at 191 according to nfl sites. imo 175 and 180 are way too light for what we’re looking for in an outside WR. We already have someone like Diggs. We need someone more bigger and more physical to compliment Diggs. Hyatt is fast but I’m not seeing anything on tape that intrigues me. Also doesn’t look like he has a full route tree. We already have one of those in Davis. Hard pass. like I said, I’d prefer Johnston but he won’t be there. I’d he is and we don’t sprint to the podium I’d be severely disappointed. But I’m preparing for that because I think this FO and coaching staff are lost when it comes to drafting WRs or anyone on offense for that matter. Yeah, yeah, I know, Allen. I like Tillman in about rd3. Possibly AT Perry or Palmer in rd 3-4.

This is what @GunnerBill said the other day: "The concerns on Johnston are not raw production. They are about his skill set. Hands, route running and not playing to his size." For these reasons, Johnston may drop, don't know if it would be all the way to 27. Not sure how many of those concerns can be coached up, but he certainly has the talent to be a dynamic receiver. I had not been considering him because I assumed he was not a possibility.

He has some issues with hands catches, contested or otherwise. I've never seen someone that size play so consistently below the rim. This is my thing on his size.... the only time he actually uses his size as an asset is with the ball in his hands when he is a tough tackle for any DB. It is true that it is a technical point and can be coached up and the raw ingredients are there. But those are the things teams have to get comfortable with. They talk about smaller receivers needing to "play bigger", Johnston needs to "play bigger too" because he is 6'3 playing 5'11. 1
