How? He's still very young and could be a very good player. However, today he sucked. Is that what you mean by potential?

He did not completely suck. He had a tough assignment, a weak LG next to him, and a brand new position. Anyone expecting him not to make mistakes was being unrealistic. I see a ton of potential out of his performance today.

I'm not the only one who commented on his mediocre play. At halftime,  Bradshaw, Jimmy Johnson, Howie Long, etc... showed several clips of Allen's poor play. I guess we see what we wanna see.

Yeah, it's the in thing to do these days, talk down the Bills and Allen.  Lots of talk on the shows about not knowing if they can "trust" the Bills due to inconsistency.  Whatever.  Only one thing shuts people up and that's winning.  I suspect if we beat New England and win out to take the division, they'll still be talking about the inconsistency during a playoff run too.  It's become the media's mantra about the Bills.

Hopefully the oline, which is subpar to begin with, gets their LT and Mongo back. You, Ethan in Portland (who prophesied an epic loss and McD on the verge of being fired), and Gene1973 are among the most persistently negative posters on this board. The Bills have disappointed, partly through miscalculations in roster construction, but also because they've had some ill luck and egregious officiating that have contributed to their mediocre record. None of that makes them a bad team.

That's more than fair. The Bills have vastly underperformed this season. You have given some valid reasons why. The bottom line is this team from top to bottom has been a disappointment. This team has its own destiny in its hand. If they produce, execute, and beat quality teams I will be the first to praise the team.

People here would have cut Josh after his first year. Patience. Most fans don’t have it and don’t understand the game at a deep enough level to make these player assessments

I saw a raw rookie from a division II school playing a position he's never played before, improving as the game went on. The taunting penalty is just a maturity issue. Give this man an entire NFL offseason and I think he will be a stalwart on our line for the next decade.

Sorry...but 5 penalties!?! Has that happened before? I like Brown but that is unexcusable.

Can’t blame the media. It’s true. A lot of them picked the bills to win it all. Do you trust this team?

You mean when they showed three of his seven incompletions and didn’t mention that he was 15 of 22 with a TD pass?

You’re right about one thing: we see what we wanna see.

If three TD passes against the league’s #1 pass defense is “subpar”, then your expectations are unrealistic.

Of course they did, they hate Josh Allen for some reason.

I disagree. His play was mediocre at best. Perhaps it was his injury? The Bills need a way better version of Allen to win vs quality teams.

Mediocre? He had some poor throws early on but I thought his mechanics were not right at those points. Quite likely the ankle is still bothering him. As the game went along, he did very well. The Panthers record is not good but their D is.

Calling his performance mediocre is a lazy take

It was at this moment it became obvious that you simply want to get reactions out of folks. Which is of course what's happening, so good on you for achieving your goals.

He admitted as much after the game. Cut the guy a break. He was playing a position he hadn't before, is a rookie and was playing a good D line.

Two things can be true at the same time:

1. He had a terrible game as far as his play and ability to control his temperament. This warrants criticism.

2. He is a rook, was playing out of position and needs time to be better at his craft.

It doesn't have to be one or the other.

I think that this is a more solid win than a lot of people are giving the Bills credit for.

Stuff to work on? Sure, but how many drives were stalled out by Spencer Brown alone?  There were some miscues from Allen but he did more good than bad.  Davis looked like a legit #2 and Singletary did fairly well.

The Bills definitely got too conservative on first/second down in the second half.  We aren't going to be a clock control team this season.

Defense held solid on 4th downs and did exactly what the scheme is supposed to do: Bend don't break.

So yeah, solid win. Keep that rolling into next week.

Look, I like Brown. He has the kind of attitude I want on the OL and a ton of potential..but 5 penalties is a bit excessive at the professional level. I won't apologize for saying that.

And you don't have to. All I am saying is that I would be much more upset if Morse, Dawkins or Williams committed such penalties.

For sure.  His 5 penalties and terrible play is 💯 on Beane for going into the season with no backup LT.  Literally didn’t even have one.  If brown was the swing tackle to start the year and Doyle is the swing tackle now…. He dropped the ball.  Make protecting Josh Allen the priority instead of leaning on Allens athleticism to bail us out every friggin play.  No player in the NFL is leaned on the way we lean on him. Give him help.

Agreed...but when has any of them committed 5 penalties in a game...solely? Combined?

I'll be an armchair psychologist and considering McDermott's paranoia about the Pats personnel during pregame warmups a few years ago, his comment saying let's not give Belichick too much credit, and his dead serious "you know who's up next?".........Belichick might be in his head.

The bigger picture. I can agree with this take.

Missing their kicker and stud RB really helped the betting line today. Big contributions from Singletary, Knox, Gabe, Allen, and Obada. Defense is holding up pretty well but still getting punched in the mouth a bit too hard in the run game.

Best part of the game imo, is going down the field and ending it with a score while killing the clock. Good team win.

Dak Prescott was 14/22 188 yards but had 4 TDs against the Panthers.

Mr. Elite Mac and Cheese 12/18 139 yards 1 TD 1 Int against the Panthers.

They make most QBs look average because they have a damn good defense.  Cousins had a good game against them.  Didn't see it so I won't comment on it.

Bottom line is Josh had a really good game against a really good D.

Ouch.  Not a good sounding for Daboll. I actually thought he called a decent game today outside of a few things and Im not a Daboll fan.  McD said we were 1-4 in the red zone.  I though we were like 4-6 or something.

I don't really see Josh criticism as hate. Much of it is valid and he should be held at a high standard. Franchise QBs don't get a lot of wiggle room to play poorly. It comes with the territory. But yes he's human and the fans shouldn't expect perfection every game.

Everyone knows what reasonable criticism looks like. But for Josh it has gone beyond that for 4 years.

Good win against a really good D and a much improved (from 2020) Cam Newton.  I respect the hell out that dude after his effort today.

Frazier dialed up great blitz packages today.

D line played tough most of the day and made some huge plays at big moments by knocking down passes.

Allen is so good that when he's not AMAZING people think he played poorly.  That's a good thing.  Only play I really didn't like was the sack when we were backed way up on 3rd down in the fourth quarter.  Looked like old Josh, scrambling, ball switching hands...scary.  I didn't even hate the INT too much.  He's a gun slinger and gun slingers gonna sling.  DB made a great read by breaking off his coverage.

O-line got a really good push at times today, which was different.  Motor played great.

Brown is a rookie being asked to do a lot.  5 penalties is unacceptable.  He knows that, the staff knows that, we know that.  Hopefully he fixes that.

Play calling was good at times and terrible at others.  Loved the outside run game that was effective though.

Good win...keep rolling.

The Bills played a good but not great game while the Panthers showed up the Bills simply were the more talented team at home. The Bills needed this win to both keep pace in the wildcard and keep their chances at a division title alive. They got the win fairly comfortably (the Panthers kicker being out was a gift too.)

You'd think the sky was falling today around here during the game. How would you like to be the Cardinals atm? Wasn't our prettiest victory but hell I'll take it.

We know what it's like to be the Cardinals at the moment - we went through it after the bye! Actually, as they're in a better position than us, it might not be as bad for them.
