Defund the Police?

Recommended Posts

No.

What could go wrong? No police to arrest someone breaking into your home, your business, stealing you car... oh I know! It would look like the stand-down orders in NYC.

Hard pass.

Curious to whom is in favor of defunding the police and the benefits of doing so?  If in favor of this, please help explain why this is better and the outcomes it will produce.  Any negative impacts?

Terrible idea.  Do you support it?

well for starters you know the regular ppp squad here is 100% in favor.
They will be here in a few minutes they have to call soros to find out exactly how to respond to this post.

Also this squad ...

Also the scowl on Presley's face makes me think there may be a concentration camp somewhere in my future.

DAVID BERNSTEIN:

There are plenty of police reforms that could be enacted from a libertarian perspective that would improve matters.

Qualified immunity reform is libertarian. Holding police accountable for misbehavior is libertarian. Reducing the power of police unions is libertarian. Getting rid of overtime and pension abuse is libertarian. Banning no-knock raids is libertarian. Reducing bloated police department bureaucracies is libertarian.

Broader reforms that would reduce the need for police and reduce police/civilian encounters are also libertarian. Getting rid of victimless crimes, especially the drug war, and certain categories of criminal business regulation that should be handled civilly is libertarian. Getting rid of taxes that lead to black markets that in turn lead to police/civilian encounters is libertarian. Abolishing laws that allow local governments to put people in jail for failure to pay civil fines is libertarian. Separating forensic science services from prosecutors’ offices is libertarian. Holding prosecutors accountable for misconduct is libertarian. Finding alternatives to prison for certain categories of offenders is libertarian.

By contrast, “defunding the police,” if that just means willy-nilly cuts, is not libertarian.

If you get rid of the police, they will be replaced by vigilante justice and mob “protection.”

Not at all and can see no redeeming value.   Trying to understand why anyone would think it is a good idea.  The libs on here may be able to help with their POV.

The far left wants anarchy, to accomplish that, get rid of law enforcement

It's a local issue for local communities to decide. A case can be made for shifting budgets to address non-criminal community issues that too often police are called to resolve.

Abolish the police? No. Stop asking police to do the jobs of social workers? Maybe. The devil's on the details.

I am in favor of a complete defunding and dismantlement of law enforcement agencies that operate in Democrat-controlled cities.

The entertainment value would be tremendous.

...a woefully sick lib response to turn over the reigns to anarchy.....they are inept in confronting the problem head on so they bail as usual......ICE resistance, sanctuary cities, homelessness, defecating in the streets/establishments, allow to steal $945 in goods ...elect the weak who have no ability to come up with constructive solutions....they just cave and bail....we're screwed....throw in funding illegal immigrants with taxpayer dollars, etc...

Don't forget one of my favorites, letting criminals out of jail, no bail required on rioters

He's on to something here.  Let me put on my liberal thinking cap....

All journalists deal in words.  As we know, words by themselves can be violence.  Therefore bad journalists are violent.

In theory yes, but it would take about 20 minutes before a social worker was beaten to death on a call by some low-rent scumbag.   But we can pretend those problems don't exist so long as we can call the police to deal with it.

The problem is none of the libs here (or at least none of the half dozen or so who spam here regularly) have an actual POV.  They are just click monkeys.

Cuomo was mad no bail was being set on people setting fires, looting, and throwing bricks at cops.

he is a total nut case

Didn't see his press conference today.  If, as you say, he is upset about it, maybe he'll actually get the all Democrat controlled legislature to put together an actually reasonable bail reform bill.  (Yeah, right.)

Why $945? Is this like the casinos where there is a threshold and then they have to withhold taxes over that threshold?

Well, if they steal over that amount (in MSRP) then they’re required to file a 1099 form with their tax Returns and are subject to state and federal taxes on the amount OVER the MSRP.

Of course it’s raycyst because it could impose an unconstitutional burden on a certain segment of our population of looters who don’t pay taxes, don’t know where the DMV is located, can’t get a photo ID, don’t use the USPS or the Internet because they are too poor to have an email address and an ISP. But man, do they dig those 55” 4K HDTVs.

So as I suspected there are many reasons NOT to defund the police = not one person has made an argument  on why this is a good thing.  Where are the resident libs?  Trying to have a conversation here, no judgements even though I do not agree with the defunding movement.

To be serious...

The main reason is that people believe that police do not stop crimes, merely report it and investigate after the fact (excluding riots).

The current democrat talking point is that they will replace Law enforcement with social workers.

Ironically, they are protesting to make citizen arrests the norm.
