You Can Thank Me for the Win Today

It seems like your seeking approval for your actions or some kind of validation. Its a very long winded personal experience that you continued to push. We all get the narrative- time to get over it. We are all fans your not a super fan anyone is going to thank.

Somewhat related note, I wonder if the adulation heaped upon Pancho has motivated some fans to try to take things up a notch for the recognition of being a "super fan", even if just subconsciously.

I just find it really bizarre the OP actually expected to be thanked for his antics.

The entire section did not turn against me.  What I think happened is the people 2-3 rows in front and behind me noticed me get more aggressive about pounding the seat in front of me after the one couple asked me to stop, thinking I was just an obnoxious drunk when I was just cheering for my team.  I admittedly was being louder on purpose just because those two told me to stop in a rude fashion.  Honestly they were probably extra annoyed  because the Bills were on defense for much of the first half and I was trying to make noise almost the entire time.  By the end of the 3rd quarter the situation had been pretty much entirely diffused because the Bills had been on offense almost the entire time and I wasn't being as loud.  When people realized that I had only really was being loud on defensive downs for the Bills, they weren't as upset.  I think people just saw my defiance to that couple and assumed I was a drunk idiot rather than just an idiot for the Bills.

The only part I disagree with is where you intentionally got louder to irritate them. But I do understand that if you are just being loud at a sporting event with proper language then others should have no issue.

So, I almost got kicked out of the game today.  I was sitting in the Kelly Club section 212, stuffy crowd there.  I was by far the loudest person in the section, but all I was really doing is pounding the empty seat in front of me and screaming defense on third downs.  I was pretty quiet otherwise but the couple to the left of the seat I was pounding on wasn't appreciative of my enthusiasm. This couple asked me to stop pounding on the seat in a not so friendly fashion and I did not comply. I was not using vulgar language at all or being aggressive towards anyone other than the Dolphins.  I was just a loud, passionate fan.

The thing is, when these people tried to shut me up, I told them I'm just going to be as loud as possible on every defensive down from then on.

I was not using vulgar language at all or being aggressive towards anyone other than the Dolphins.  I was just a loud, passionate fan.

The thing is, when these people tried to shut me up, I told them I'm just going to be as loud as possible on every defensive down from then on.  I did not change what I was doing at all.  I just began to pound on the empty seat in front of me on 1st and 2nd down as well as third when the Bills defense was on the field.  I admit I was defiant when they told me to stop but what I said, almost  verbatim when they tried to shut me up is, well I'm just going to be as loud as possible now.  The couple that was trying to get me to quiet down was on there cell phones for a decent portion of the game.

As the 3rd quarter began and the Dolphins were driving, I was obnoxiously loud on every down, but was doing nothing more than pounding the empty seat in front of me and screaming defense.  That is it.  A large portion of section 212 turned against me and were giving me guff, but I would not back down.  I invited all of them to go get the usher if they didn't like it.  Then I just went up to the usher myself and explained the situation.  When I got back from the usher, the Dolphins had a first and goal from the 2 yard line about to go up 21-9.  Because of the situation, I missed how they got down there.  To the dismay of the people in section 212, I immediately became super loud and started pounding the seat in front of me and chanting defense.  Then the Bills made the biggest play of the game and got the turnover that turned the game around.  And wouldn't you know it,  the people who were most aggressive about shutting me up were all searching me out for high fives, save the original couple that had a problem with me.

I went up to the usher before the end of the game when we were up 24-14 and talked to him again.  He mentioned it was a good  that I came to talk to him earlier because security came to him and were ready to kick me out and that they said someone told them I was pretty intoxicated, which was a lie.  The thing is I'm not a big drinker at all.  I had 3 beers before the game over 4 hours.  The first time I have had a drink in two months.  The usher stood up for me and said I wasn't intoxicated and prevented security from coming to kick me out.  He said he had been watching me and I wasn't doing anything egregious.  I was simply being the loudest, most hardcore fan in the section when the team was on defense.

So I had this one couple try to shut me up for being a Bills fan.  Then I had almost an entire section turn on me because admittedly, my intentional reaction was to be as loud as possible every down the Bills were on defense.  It was a very uncomfortable situation to be in but I thought I was right and I wouldn't back down.  I kind of feel that my willingness to to have an entire section hate me because of my passion for the Bills made the difference today.  Especially because the immediate play after getting back to my seat after talking to the usher was the play of the game.  I understand why people in my section thought I was an ahole, because they did not understand how it all started, which was basically me be very loud on 3rd down.  They just thought I was a drunk ahole, but I am just an ahole, not a drunk ahole.  I just didn't appreciate people telling me not to cheer for my team.  I told them they are at the wrong stadium watching the wrong game., they should go to a baseball game instead.  I was obnoxiously loud after they tried to shut me up but I still only was pounding the seat in front of me and yelling defense, and let's go.  Those were literally the only words coming out of my mouth.  No vulgar or threatening language at all.  My hand actually hurts right now from pounding the seat in front of me.

I just wanted to share this, and I know I'm being a little silly when I say you can thank me for the win, but it was a ridiculous situation as a Bills fan to be in for simply cheering loudly for your team.  It was the first time I have ever sat in the Kelly Club and it didn't seem like they welcomed my passion, where as the same enthusiasm fit right in at games I have gone to in the past.  It was really 15-20 against 1 and I wouldn't back down.  Like I said it was very uncomfortable, but I'm glad I was proactive in talking to the usher because he saw that I was not being a dick and stood up for me.  So maybe, just maybe, standing my ground a circle of people who were trying to ruin my day was the karma we needed to pull this one out.  So, your welcome.

I’m still struggling with all those people giving you guff.  There’s nothing worse than a section of guff givers.

While I think the seat pounding was a little over top, I applaud your efforts to be loud.  I thought several times in the second and third quarters ‘where is all the crowd noise?’.

I’ll wait for Paul Harvey.

I was in Nashville 2 weeks ago, drunk with 19 of my closest college friends (5 friends, but a bunch of acquaintances). Never once did a person, much less an entire section, turn against me.

That was at an away game.

Every time I see a post of yours, I think "Steve Has Toe Jam".  That is all.

Thank you.

I appreciate your volume and dedication, but bagging the seats next to someone was too much.

Creating a battle in the stands is a no win situation.

When fans are respectful of each other makes for a much more enjoyable game day experience.

Keep being loud .

Go Bills!!!

To the OP:

Read what you wrote, It would seem that it was more important to you to piss off the people around you than to "cheer the Bills on to victory". You admit that until they complained you weren't putting out your best efforts. If that's what it takes to make you a true fan then what kind of a fan would you be without their derision? You should seek them out and thank them for at least turning you into a faux super fan. In fact, you claim that we should thank you for the victory when it really was the people next to you that motivated you to bring about this victory. Let's give credit where credit is due.

I think this right here is one of the reasons we need a new downtown stadium, to keep people like you from being able to afford a ticket.

The Bills were losing when I was in the Family room watching the game.

I went to the Man Cave Basement in the 2nd half to change the mojo ... so can you thank me for the win as well?

Next game, start in the man cave and we can see if they play better from the start of the game. If so, it will be prof enough for me and I will send you a cookie.

I know this won't be a popular opinion but here it goes:

When I sit in the endzone & clowns like the OP pound on the back of the seat in front of them it shakes my seat, several seats away.

Pound on your own seat next time instead of annoying people around you.

I'm sitting in section 212 next week & I'm glad to hear that seat pounding clowns are looked down upon there.

Yeah. Punched out a lotta words to justify acting a bit clownish. I don’t know if there are any rules for that section, but obviously they might need to clarify. I used to sit in 334, where ANYTHING went and numerous security related stuff happened!

So, I’m not a prude, but no longer a punk arsed kid, who thinks he’s more important than the game!

Have you got one of those Living Rooms where the sofa is under a plastic cover, and absolutely no life forms are allowed in there?  I have a few relatives with homes like that.  Your Man Cave Basement seems to be the good karma place for the Bills’ fortunes.  Stay there.  ?

Exactly!

Let's have a new downtown stadium, filled with stuffy #######s and little kids that is completely devoid of any and all passion.

It will be just like a Sabres game - can't wait!!!

well...people buy those expensive seats so they don't have to deal with it.  there's cheering when the time is right, but it's not a place to be over the top.  there are plenty of other sections to be out of control in.

I must admit the more I think about it the worse I feel about the whole situation.  I wasn't considering anyone's experience but my own and that is wrong.  I just need to watch the games at home from now on.  I don't plan on coming around here anymore.  Sorry for any animosity I caused with anyone on here.  I wish you all the best.

I agree.  Yell as loud as you want, but pounding on the seat will jar anybody sitting next to it.  Your rights to be obnoxious end where they infringe on others rights.  I have a bad back.  You pounding on an empty seat next to me would hurt, a lot.  Those folks should just have moved over one to stop you.  Problem solved.

Yep, it's Jim Kelly's number.  I know you are trying to say I'm immature but I happen to be a very small segment of the population that won't back down to avoid confrontation and appease those around me.  Most people will but that is not who I am.  Think whatever you want about me but most people are followers and will go along with whatever the crowd tells them.  You probably would have fit in well in the Germany during the late 1930's.  I think almost everyone that was around me realized before the end of the game, that I was not doing anything wrong and just didn't fully understand the situation when it began.

Wow, it didn't take long for this thread to go Godwin!! (@GG and @Kelly the Dog)

I sat in JKC once.  Never again, it sucks in that section, I would rather sit in the parking lot & listen to the play by play by Murph on the radio.

i don't know why people have this idea.  the clubs are great.  easy to get in and out of.  a full bar for the entire 4 quarters of the game.  no bathroom lines.  it gets loud up there, it just doesn't allow some psycho who doesn't know how to handle his booze to ruin the game for everyone around them.  people pay extra for the seats to avoid the nonsense.  i get that people don't want to sit up there, but on the same note, fans shouldn't go up there and feel it's ok to be over the top.  it's just not the place.

Agreed, it is just not my scene.  They get mad when you standup, you don't get the full sense of the stadium atmosphere sitting.  I see why people that could afford to sit their regularly do it, as the nonsense is really cut out of the equation but I just don't think you get the full game day experience sitting in the clubs.  I am not a guy that goes overboard at the games, although I was a seat banger back in my 20's in the late 90s so I do sympathize  with the OP.  ☺️

Back when I had my seats, I sat in section 123, row 3. Tunnel end zone, 3 rows off the field. One year, two of my buddies that I had tickets with decided to upgrade to the Jim Kelly Club - I guess they liked the sound of heat and close bathrooms in the middle of December. Me and my stepdad and one other guy and myself kept ours in 123. I ended up using one of his tickets for the JKC one week that he couldn't make it to the game... After the first quarter, I went back down to my seats in 123. Unbelievable difference. I don't go to a game to sit there and schmooze and shoot the breeze. I'm there to be passionate, scream, holler, and support my team. It's a different atmosphere in those club seats. Never again.

On a side note, I got free tickets to a Bills game at the Jets in 2009 from my boss that he got through a friend of his. We sat in the stratosphere... but for free, who cares, right? Not one single Jets "fan" up there was even watching the game. It was like scheduled social hour... talking about the Yankees and Mets game last night, etc. Having season tickets at the Ralph, I was just blown away by the difference in atmosphere.
