In a year everyone knew the Bills wouldn't contend they got the chance to mold a 19-year-old kid with stupendous talent and give him a year of experience in their defense. Was he an instant All-Pro? No, but I guess that's your measuring stick for a rookie 1st rounder. Edmunds not being on this list given both the way he played and his potential is a little ridiculous -- even with the growing pains. When I saw Scott’s post all I could do was chuckle. Somebody that far gone isn’t even worth your time. Edmunds was an individual in the middle of the 2nd ranked yardage D in the Nfl and 2nd overall defense in the NFL according to football outsiders DVOA. He EARNED conference defensive rookie of the month to close out the year and was the only player in the NFL with 120 tackles, 2 int, 2FF, and 10 passes defended. .... but he struggled all year and Scottlaw is quite worried. cool story, Bruh.....Foolishness. I mean, maybe. Yeah. It's kind of bold to claim Rosen had the worst situation. Pretty clear to me that Allen had just as bad of a situation. There's no way you can claim that their offensive line was worse, and certainly the Bills had a worse WR group. Rosen had a future hall of famer to throw to. Anyway, that's why Allen went 3rd and Rosen 12th. He showed more with a similar situation. But Rosen should have dropped out of the first. I also think Taron Johnson should have gone in the first. He dropped off people's radar after he was shut down later in the season, but he was consistently rated as one of the best rookie CB's in the league. He had a rough year........there were a number of games when he was the worst player on the defense. You can sum up his issues as a lack of instinctive play. There have been rare cases where guys who struggled at the position early have made big strides but it's not the norm.........typically they hit the ground running. I still like the pick because I think he could be very good edge player if MLB doesn't pan out but it's fair to say he didn't look like a first rounder last year.........and there were LB's picked later who DID.........it's certainly noteworthy. TC in St. Louis
I thought Edmunds had a great first year. He led the team in tackles, made the defensive calls, and shows tremendous speed and hitting ability. Maybe I'm just a guy watching football and not breaking down every play in slo-mo. I'm thrilled he's on our team, and I think he's a fixture. Can't wait to see what happens when Milano, Taron Johnson, the free agent signings, and people like Levi Wallace continue to improve. I also think Josh is going to be a superstar. Foster is a stud, Zay will get better, and they'll find Josh some new targets. Clay will be gone and replaced by a person who runs routes and catches footballs. Let's go.

But in reality, the Chargers said after the draft that they were going to take Edmunds at 17 if he was there. Is that true, we snagged him one ahead. I get Edmunds had some very bad games, esp early n but people should realize when we drafted him he was 19, 19 years old. What did people expect, Brian Urlacher as a rookie" Give me a break. There were a few plays where his range and athletic ability were extraordinary, on the one interception and the QB sack where he also tackled the RB in the process. The guy is just like Allen, an athletic freak that needs a lot of work & experience, both have incredibly high ceilings.

Though it's fun to try to project strong end of season production into the following year...........if you went by that than you'd have thought Tyrod was bound for huge things following his final performances of 2015 and 2016 where he and Watkins sank Revis Island and then set the franchise single game offensive yardage record against the Dolphins. Good on LAC to go BPA there (James also was not expected to drop that far) when they really needed a LB more than a safety. They could have taken Vander Esch who went two picks after. Would have been a decent pick but nowhere near the difference maker Derwin James is for them. Edited February 7, 2019 by YoloinOhio 1

They just need to trade for Luke Kuechly. His base salary is jumping about $9M this season so maybe the Panthers would be open to moving him. Lorenzo Alexander was onto an important point the other day when discussing whether the Bills should pursue Thomas Davis.........that the Bills need to be able to change their defense to adapt to opponents in the same manner the Patriots do..........or Wade/Cottrell used to do here.......or what Rex was supposed to be able to do. While certainly *possible*.......it's hard to see that happening with any time soon with a MLB who we are just hoping will get to the point where he is always making the routine plays.
