uticaclub
I really think teams play very conservative against us, knowing they don't have to score alot of points to beat us and that we will probably just beat ourselves. They know as long as they don't turn the ball over, they have no chance of losing. I'd like to think that we are building a great defense, but whenever they are playing great and need a big stop late, they always come up short. Boatdrinks
They’re pretty good. Not the Steel curtain or anything but pretty solid. NE certainly wasn’t going to take unnecessary risks because they didn’t require that many points to win. Your point is somewhat valid there. Most teams aren’t New England. If the Bills had a decent offense they’d be a wild card contender.

We had 3 takeaways that game. That was one of my points, as long as they hold on the ball & don't throw semi-risky passes, it doesn't matter how many yards you get or how many times you get sacked, you'll still win. If our defense pitched a shutout, we still lose 7-6 Edited October 30, 2018 by uticaclub

Rc2catch
I think they do have a decent/good defense. But third down conversions and plays over the middle seem to always be exploited in the most crucial situations for them, which definitely devalues them in my book

(End of Houston and the rushing TD on MNF) In 2018, you don’t have defense like the 2001 Baltimore Ravens. Every “good” defense in the NFL gives up yardage and points. The Bills defense is very good and when you consider how little support they have, it makes you feel even more for them. Also I don’t buy the conservative argument. When they were playing bad, Baltimore didn’t exactly take it easy on them
turbotype87
The defense plays their hearts out, The offense is pathetic. McCoy isn't the player he once was, The offensive line needs work, Josh Allen I believe is going to be a very good QB if he can stay healthy? It's obvious their in a rebuilding mode. Nihilarian
This years defense would be so much better if they weren't on the field so much and getting worn down almost every game. Think Vikings game! The Bills need to find a way to get that run game back to where it was the last few years in being #1 in rush yards, #1 in rush TDs and #1 yards per attempt. Currently 19th in points allowed, 6th in yards allowed. 6th in passing yards allowed.

WHen that does not happen, this bend-but-dont'-break just falls apart.
Bing Bong
They are close to elite IMO. They give up.. for reasons I can't blame.. some games when they just know they can't win (that crushes you as a competitor to have no control over the most incompetent unit on the other side of the ball). But last night, being MNF primetime, they played exactly as they should, as hard as they could, so as not to get embarrassed in prime time. It's difficult to tell. They may not be close to elite. I believe they are.. but we're like a bird with a broken wing. One is fine, could be a gorgeous bird wing (or strong, my analogy got weird) but the other ain't gonna make this team fly for ****. mjt328
Defense is at least Top 5 in the NFL right now. Offense is easily the worst in the NFL right now. Special Teams is pretty bad, outside of our Field Goal Kicker. Overall, I think our record accurately reflects where the team is at. Considering the team overall, I think we are in the bottom quarter of the league.... roughly the same tier as the Jets, Browns, Colts, Raiders, Giants, Cardinals and 49ers (without Garoppolo). I don't necessarily think we are the worst team in the NFL, but it's hard to win ANY games if you can't score points.
purple haze
They are good and going in the right direction and folks will hate to hear it, but the best players in the coming draft are defensive players. Fadingpain
The fact that we have zero, and I mean ZERO, offense probably does impact opposing team's offensive strategy. But sure our D is good! With a very middling, average offense we could have beaten the Pats last night. As it is, we are historically bad.

Straight Hucklebuck
I think they are good, top 12 kind of good. starrymessenger
They aren't just good. They are great! But only every second outing. The rest of the time they aren't so good. So they have the wherewithal to play at a very high level but they need to be more consistent. But of course that's hard to do when they get no help from the offence. They would be that much better if the O was actually capable of at least holding its own (which it can't). More first downs and time of possession would be great, but apparently we can't have any of that. McDermott and Frazier know what they are doing on that side of the ball both with respect to scheme/adjustments and evaluating talent as evidenced in the draft. You can't win with 1\2 of a football team but the guys deserve a lot of credit for their effort on D, especially given their weekly gut busting suicide missions.
