The TD throw was even more impressive than I thought. He recognized the coverage, froze the CB with a pump fake, and delivered the ball to the best possible spot where his receiver wouldn't get blown up by the safety. McCloud did a really nice job with the route too. And these are rookies in their first ever NFL action...

Luka
He gives you goosebumps sometimes, with the way that ball leaves his hand. That TD I mean he absolutely rifled that ball. Crazy. I'd love to see him with a clean pocket. People are really overlooking his pocket presence. He's got guys tipping the ball out of his hand, guys all over his feet, in his face. Still making plays downfield.

Just gorgeous and refreshing to see a QB making a play and letting his WR make a play as well 1:1 covered. Allen and KB might be a match made in heaven with his size and catch radius.

Logic
As always, Cover 1 does an excellent job with this video. As someone who was an admitted "anyone but Allen!" guy, I can't deny that Josh Allen has absolutely other-worldy talent. Off the charts. The arm might be the strongest we've EVER seen in the NFL, and that's not an exaggeration. But ya know what I REALLY like about Allen? He's fearless. He has absolutely 0% hesitation in him when he thinks he can make a throw. Now yes, that IS going to get him into trouble at times and cause some frustrating turnovers. But when he's right -- and make no mistake about it, his physical talent allows him to complete throws that he shouldn't even be ATTEMPTING -- it's a sight to behold. You can't teach guts and fearlessness at the QB position. You either have it or you don't. Allen has it. Allen has it. 100% Transcendent success begins with a complete and full disregard for the probability of failure. Josh Allen took almost every snap as though he truely knew he had the chance to get chunk yardage every play, wherever the ball had to go, you see the confidence he has in knowing he can get it there....Also....I only really remember 1 play where he definitely left the pocket sooner than necessary, he seemed to have full faith that his linemen were going to keep guys off him...at least for the first second or two before the pocket actually broke down. Which I believe is huge. You need to have that trust before you can actually FOCUS on self correction within games and reps...at least IMO You notice he took the split second to set himself on that free play before he ripped it...something I’m not sure he would’ve done in Wyoming. Maybe I’m just that bias but...I’d like to think the footwork I’m seeing now is noticely different from most of the college film. Again that could just be me. sven233
As someone that was very concerned about his base and footwork coming out of college, I have to say he has come a long way in a short amount of time. I watched every one of his games this year in college and, while I knew enough that there was unlimited potential there, I didn't want to go that route because I saw just how far he had to go. I didn't want the project even though I knew in the end he could be the best QB in the draft. That said, while I haven't been to every single practice, I have seen him practice and have watched his half multiple times against Carolina watching nothing but his footwork at times and I came away surprised how much better his base looked. And while he still has a ways to go, in my opinion, he is much further along at this point than I thought he could get to since his college season ended. This shows me the guy works at it and takes coaching well which is very important. While he will never lead the league in completion percentage, he has the ability to make plays from anywhere on the field. That's something we haven't seen here in many years. If the kid keeps working to become more consistent, I think we will all be very happy with the finished product. Domdab99
Great video. I particularly rly liked how, right before the TD, we saw how many rookies were on the field - yet still getting ready for the next play without a huddle. This is a well-coached team. And Allen has full control of the offense. So damn excited about this kid.

Doc
I was also in the “anyone but Allen” camp prior to the draft. When they drafted him, I was upset but I figured there’s nothing I can do but hope that he succeeds. When I saw him at camp he seemed to have potential. When I first read the stat line from the game, I said “not surprising.“ When I saw his play in the game however, I saw that four, maybe five, of his incompletions were because of drops, the wrong route being run, or the receiver giving up on the play, and another 2 were because he was under pressure almost immediately (although what he did on that 4th down play should never happen again). Beyond that I was glad to see that he looked in-command, could hit the short stuff (as that’s a problem with strong-armed quarterbacks), and that his scrambling ability adds another dimension. That being said, he’s still got a lot to learn but hopefully he has time because NP and/or AJ are playing well. The Process
Here's to hoping that all Allen's points of concern are similar to Farve who was playing backyard ball early in his career. 1 hour ago, PeteBills4ever said: Awesome throw for the TD, really powerful arm, I would be curious to see how fast he can throw a baseball! He said "this isn't really an open receiver" and comments on Proehl coming open over the middle. That's not really the point, though. Allen made a read, faked the corner, and threw a dart. This is what should excite Bills fans and is something we haven't seen since Jim Kelly -- fearlessness combined with physical ability. Once Allen is the starter -- whether that comes in W1 or later -- we will see some interceptions that are the result of his insane confidence in his arm. Just like Kelly used to throw. Here's the difference, even between Allen and Kelly. Allen's arm is so good that the ball will get to the receiver so quickly it will be tough for a defender to anticipate. The pressure Allen will put on all DBs is something I don't think a lot of people are really considering. The Panthers had very good coverage on Ray-Ray for that play. I think they saw the result and looked at each other like, "what were we supposed to do?" That's exciting. Yes, it was one play on one drive in a preseason game. But it was very telling.

I know Allen has rare talent. My biggest worries were mental. I thought he made too many poor decisions vs 3rd and 4th team vanilla defense. What I did love was his pocket movement. Showed poise in the pocket. His talent alone and pocket movement should be enough to make him a decent starter in this league, so that was a plus we saw in his 1st live action. Firing it between 3 defenders when it's not open and other players are open doesn't excite me. He did that more than once. I'm really just trying to understand your comment. So on 23 dropbacks you think Allen didn't appropriately check it down "a couple of times?" I'm ok with that. And on one of the plays I think you're referring to Proehl was clearly interfered with but it wasn't called.

I would argue that arm talent slightly dictates what should happen in those situations. His gift in that area is one of the primary reasons he was drafted so high. You wanna scrap that right off the get? In 3 years if he pans out and he’s making those “WOW” moments I can see you in the stands sitting there saying “ya but it was a risk and he shoulda taken the easy 5 instead of threading the needle on a 30 yd rope for 6”.... that sounds like fun. Im cool with it. It could be what separates him and the bills from the rest of the AFC.... or it could put him out of the league. But I think soon enough he’ll realize what he can and can’t do and adjust accordingly. Seems like a smart dude.
