sullim4
Who do you replace him with? Gay can't kick FG's to save his life if the preseason is any indication. The Steelers cut their kicker and signed someone that's never played a down in the NFL. Â By this standard, we should have cut Hughes long ago given how many 15 yard penalties he's committed that have cost us points.

DriveFor1Outta5
Usually I get very reactionary after losses, and I agree there is a good chance that Rex may cut him. This time I don't want to rush to judgements due to a loss though. He was already in Rex's doghouse during the preseason. However, as previous posters have mentioned who do sign then? It was a bad miss, and he's already missed a pat this year. I do hate to wait until we lose a game due to special teams, but he is certainly not the sole reason we lost today. I don't think it was the kind of horrible day that causes kickers to lose their job. At least it shouldn't be. The Adam
I agree with cutting Carp but not removing him from the team. Every miss gets a finger cut off. If he is lining up and looks over, and Rex is holding hedge clippers, those kicks will find their way in.

You either let your guy, who has been solid, to shake off the funk, or you cut him and roll the dice with another kicker who was probably just cut himself for missing kicks. We got lucky with Carpenter when the Dolphins let him go. Do we want to test our luck again? A lot of teams are desperate for kicking.

Best Player Available
me thinks the Bucs may cut a kicker very soon. That Aside, this carrying a kick off specialist. and a kicker who sucked in pre season and since, needs some FO attention. I really would hate to see a 40+ yarder needed with a game on the line and Carpenter the kicker. The dude does not inspire confidence. His mojo is gone. smuvtalker
I don't think cutting Carpenter is the answer. I agree with some other posters, he is just in a bit of a funk right now, and he has been dealing with an injury. His 51 yarder split the uprights. Â I think we need to let him work this thing out...I really hope Rex doesn't cut him, it would be a real knee jerk reaction, and in my opinion, looking for a scapegoat(albeit an inappropriate one). Carpenter is NOT the reason we lost this game today. 17 penalties, the refs, missing a tackle that ends up turning into a 50 yard touchdown run, those are much more valid reasons to chalk today's loss to. Bacchus44
Carpenter had a knee injury this week. Â Â Word. ToGoGo
There's something up with him. Even after making the 51 yarder he seemed unsure of himself. He seems prone to the yips like what happened to him in Miami.
Alphadawg7
This makes sense how? Ask the Steelers how easy it is to find a reliable kicker on the market right now. I mean this is just absurd. I do agree, he is on the hot seat, but unless you got someone who can be better then cutting him makes you worse. And right now, the open market on good kickers is bare. PSU1
Stupid thread, who do you think we would replace him with? Seriously? I'm not happy with that whiff today but for goodness sakes let's use some common sense. Carp won some games for us last year and we're 4 games in this year and we want to talk about cutting him. This team has way bigger issues than the kicking game.

Formerly Allan in MD
Carpenter was injured during preseason and has obviously not fully recovered. He's quite limited and obviously shaky. If he's not 100% and unable to kick off, we really need another option, at least until he is 100% As for the kick-off specialist, he should only be occupying a roster spot if he can consistently get the ball deep or out of the end zone and possibly be able to back-up the place kicker. This guy does neither. Oh for the good old days when your starting quarterback was also your place kicker (George Blanda) and you starting tight end was your place kicker as well (Lou Groza).
