Good against the run but not a consistent pass rusher. Said it all along that he’s not a guy that’s going to win off the edge and get to the QB with any kind of regularity. He’s a good player for what he is though.

5 sacks a year for a 1st round DE is not going to work. He's mediocre and not a game wrecker.

Thoughts and opinions? It may be time to start looking elsewhere. He has definitely underperformed and hasn’t played to the level we expected.

Nobody on the D line showed up last night… Where was Oliver where’s was Jones? Floyd where the •••• was he… These guys always disappear in big playoff games it seems….

Tom Brady: Round 6 Pick 199

Cmon. We can find ONE guy at almost any draft spot over the history of the NFL.

Except it’s not just 1 guy. 7 of the top 10 sack leaders this year were taken with the 26th pick and later.

Yeah but the point is they needed to be great. There’s excuses for the CBs and LBs. they have been in and out of the lineup due to necessity. Not rotation. You’re down to some absolute scraps in a monumental game everywhere on the defense except the line…

They should have stepped up. They’ve made plays all year but disappear in back to back games.

Secondary and LBs stepped up against Pitt… they could have returned the favor and done more than, like you said, ok…

the dl held their gaps. a lot of runs bounced outside or through the gaps that lb's and others were supposed to fill. tackles whiffed and missed like crazy.

Got gashed in the run game too.

how many of those runs did the chiefs have to bounce to another hole because the DL covered the initial hole? it looked like a lot to me but until the 22 is released i will just guess that the gaps were not filled successfuly.

Don’t know about that, they were running right up the middle towards the end there. Didn’t see much push at all the whole game.

If you had Bernard and Benford back there, that play would have gotten by. They needed to show up given the circumstances…

Yes, the 2023 regular season was an aberration

Absolutely. I was THIS close to being all in on Ed till he vaporwared it for the playoffs. He is what he is, and that's middling.

A shame we blew a 9 pick on him

On the contrary,  Rousseau has played well above expectations for a DE drafted in the late 1st round.

Elite pass rushing DEs are the 2nd hardest position to find besides an elite QB.  Rousseau isn't one of those,  either,  but he's a good one.  Even that's a tough draw in the late 1st.  Most of them picked in the 20s never do much.

Well, we'll just have to draft another DE in round 1.

Every year until we finally get it right then.

They'd be better off taking them in R2 or 3 rather than late in R1.  The odds are against you either way,  but at least the investment isn't as high.

So what’s the thoughts on picking up his 5th year option ?

Wont be cheap .. but they probably have to do it to buy themselves more time to work out their DE problems …

No way I'm pick it up unless he gets 10+ next year. If you want the bag you gotta earn the bag.

They need to make the call before the 2024 season starts …( by May actually)

Its $13.8m according to this ..I think they pick it up to give themselves more time

May as well pick up the option and see what he turns into as he builds muscle and strength.  He is a very young player, will only be 24 at the start of next season.   If you pick up the option, you essentially have a 24-year-old edge rusher with average production and high upside on a 2 year 17.5-million-dollar contract.   He hasnt been elite like a member of this board promised he would be, but I am not sure you find 6 sacks a year from a free agent for much cheaper and Groot has already had time playing in the system.

Too bad he doesn’t know how to play the LBer position.

As a courtesy to the other board members, please use more descriptive topic titles. A single name if far too vague to post as a title and provides little insight into what specifically the post is talking about. The topic starter can edit the topic title line to make it more appropriate.

Thank you.

One, he hasn't been bad and is undeserving of being demoted.

Two, even if that was a thing that made even a little sense to be done - you are aware that Rousseau, Von Miller, and Kingsley Jonathan are LITERALLY the only DE's we have under contract, right?

We already have to re-sign or replace Leonard Floyd, AJ Epenesa, and Shaq Lawson. You want to add Rousseau to the list too?
