Von has not been charged yet. He’s only been arrested and released on bail.

Umm, in this country (even in Texas) you don't get arrested and taken into custody unless you have been charged with a crime.

You are conflating accused with charged. Von has not been charged. You can be arrested without being charged. Google it. It’s been discussed in other threads at length.

Anyone expecting a 35 year old coming back from an ACL to look good right away is delusional.  The hope was that he would be a positive contributor by the end of the season.  Forgetting about the off field stuff, people ragging on him for not playing well are just being unreasonable.

No, I'm not.  He's been charged with a crime.  It's possible that the charges will be dropped, but as of right now, he's been charged.  There are criminal charges pending against him.

The commentary on Von stood out to me, toward the beginning.

Sounds like Beane & the Front Office are confident that Von will not be charged with any crime and this could potentially be a misunderstanding.

Maybe we should be cautious this time around (ex: Araiza) and let things play out before crucifying Von...

Did you read Ryan O'Hollaran? https://buffalonews.com/sports/professional/nfl/bills/buffalo-bills-von-miller-terry-pegula-brandon-beane-sean-mcdermott-assault-accusations-ryan-ohalloran/article_d38a4634-9457-11ee-8826-23e0047be01a.html. Really trying to pick up where Sully left off.

What i liked is that when asked about playing time, Beane said the best will be on the field regardless of their name.  And he specifically said if Von is not one of the best players on gameday, to help win these crucial games, he won't be in there.

I heard that as an open door to keeping Von off the field. No denying he hasn’t been good. With those comments and his play thus far, easy to justify sitting him as a “football decision.”

Posting this from the other Von thread:

This is interesting. When Von’s GF released those texts in 2021, she released a statement saying

“In light of recent media reports regarding my relationship with Von, I feel that I need to address a couple of things. First and foremost, at no point in our relationship was there any type of physical abuse or violence by Von, whatsoever. For anyone to say otherwise, or to speculate such, is wrong.

“With regards to my social media posts, a part was misconstrued and taken out of context. I do regret making a private situation public, and in doing so, bringing unwanted attention to both Von and myself.”

That isn’t drastically different from the text “she” sent to the news station.

She leaked horrible… and I mean horrible, text messages from him and captioned them:

“My heart goes out to any woman/ or man who is or has ever dealt with mental, physical, or verbal abuse. Praying death on me and mine was enough!!”

**** both of them.

Google the screenshots if you want to know what he said.

Well the police did find bruising on the woman, I doubt she did that to herself. That’s enough to at least sit Von until the investigation concludes… and Beane talking about character is laughable in that press conference. They should bench him.

Giving him a vet rest day was suspicious,  I really hope they allow him to “go focus on the investigation,” and take about 5+ weeks off.

I'm more inclined to believe Von is more like the person who sent those texts than the person he portrays himself to be. I really don't believe anything coming out of this investigation. The women in these cases, especially with famous athletes magically forget what happened.

Poona played DE last season and wasn’t nearly as effective as he was in the middle.

They should be giving Jonathan Kingsley some reps of Von’s reps at DE

Neither should be getting many (if any) reps, DE should be a 50/56/57 show.

These two definitely have a very toxic history and she has a history of making abuse claims and then releasing a statement claiming it was a misunderstanding.

I legitimately didn’t know there were vet rest days coming off a bye week. Rest from what? That’s all they’ve been doing during their week off.

Maybe it’s a difference in “charges” being in his arrest warrant vs formal filing of “charges”?  I know it’s just a reporter, but the News article linked above says:

“I know the investigation is ongoing, no charges have been filed and the reported victim has already downplayed the incident in an interview with a Dallas television station. But this was a chance for the Bills to show they will not tolerate a player putting himself in this type of situation. If anything, Miller is already guilty of poor judgment.”

Perhaps you have a legal background and have a better understanding than I do from just reading about Von’s situation.  I’m not trying to be argumentative.  Sorry if it came across that way.

This whole thing is so gross and making me not want to tune in on Sunday. Like I am really struggling with this. I totally get that The Bills are between a rock and a hard place right now, but some of their statements today, and the whole prayer circle with Von. WTF? I am a pretty openminded person, and very much willing to let a process play out, but there have been a million red flags with Von and his whole situation with his GF, going years back. I mean, the cops admitted she had injuries on par with what she accused him of, and he went on the lam, and then turned himself in. Again, I am usually a person who has no problem with waiting on more evidence, but this particular case has a ton of red flags involved, and yet the team is treating him like HE is the victim. The relationship is most certainly toxic, and they are probably both very bad for each other, but the way the team/management is treating this whole situation is gross to me.

If this was a one off, I could sort of understand it, a little, but we have this, the texts, the revenge porn threats, all these little things added up make me think he is NOT a good character guy. I am not expecting his teammates to just bail on him, especially since this case is still open, but to treat it like he was victimized is just..ugh. I also feel frustrated with HER. If he did the things she has claimed, and then recanted, it makes things so much harder in general for women and being believed in these types of situations.

WTF are you doing on an internet message board if not to discuss the decision making and execution by everybody from the players, coaches, scouts, and general managers of an NFL team.

All of us are infinitely less qualified than just about everybody in every single professional sports league. But they get stuff wrong a lot. And discussing it is part of the fandom.

This is always the absolute weakest stance to take on every single topic about every single sports team.

boy Von has a lot of "misunderstandings" with this person.

They surfaced when she made then 911 call and the cops showed top and took her statement.

Lewis is absolutely guilty of obstruction of justice in that murder case.  HOF has no shame.

I’ll post it again because it’s relevant. Guilty for you, me, and our neighbors is much different than NFL stars.

Adrian Peterson has never faced a guilty verdict in his life. He literally beat his 4 year old son’s balls bloody. We have pictures. He got physical with his wife on a commercial flight in front of strangers, forced an emergency landing, and was taken out in hand cuffs. And has no official conviction.

Super starts play by different rules than the rest of the world. Ray Lewis, AP, Von Miller. They aren’t normal people in the courts.

Again....who of the guys that are scratched deserve a jersey more?  If you are going to take him out, you have to dress someone you think is better.  So, is that Alec Anderson or Germain Idedi?

I’m hats. It true. You just roll with 1 less at DE and go with Rouse, AJ, Floyd, Lawson, and Jonathan. And use that game day spot on someone else that might actually help. All Von is doing is taking someone like AJ or Floyd, or Rouse off the field more and that’s hurting the defense.

Worse was there was a full blown warrant. Not like he was arrested in the act. Someone cut an affidavit and got it signed by a judge, who reviewed the facts and deemed Probable cause. At some point the affidavit may get released and we will have a bunch of facts. If they do more work w phones, may even be video.

Please do not sugarcoat it, mannc doesn't know what he is talking about.  He states things as declarations yet has no idea if true.  When called out on it, he goes to the "it's the internet, everyone has an opinion".

The reference to mannc with "Perhaps you have a legal background" is hilarious.  Yeah, known as the hanging judge.

That news article is wrong charges were filed. He's had his arraignment, initial appearance before a judge and posted bail.

That's the process. In most cases, the next step is either dismissal , indictment via a grand jury or a probable cause hearing.

If not charged, what the hell did he post bail for? Fun?

One pretty amazing thing (and sad too) about this whole situation is that Von has been with this woman for the past 7 years, and they have two children together, and the one on the way. So an educated guess is that they do love and care deeply for each other.

And even if they have a “toxic” relationship, something really bad must have happened in order to make her “snap” and call 911. IMHO, it was the act by Von of choking her (verified by the first cops on the scene, who observed injuries consistent with a person being choked). Was Von roided up? Was he impaired by some other means?

In any case, I can’t honestly believe that the Bills are going to let Von Miller trot out onto the field in Kansas City. If they do let him play, I predict that he is going to get booed incessantly anytime he sets foot on the playing field. It won’t be a good look for the organization.

At the end of the day the Buffalo Bills had the chance to make a statement here. And they failed to make the right one.

He's been charged. And the legal process MUST play out. This is true. And from a team/financial standpoint there is no way they could just cut him. They're stuck with Miller until the legal process plays out. That much I agree with and understand.

However, they could have VERY easily sent him home so he can "focus on his current situation" much like they said with the punter. And exactly like what the Texans did with Watson. Excuse him from the facility, pay him his money to stay home. From a football standpoint, it's not like they're missing out. And from a PR standpoint it's saying we will not tolerate this set of circumstances.

Brandon Beane does NOT get to bring up culture or character again.

Beane had to completely sidestep the question about Araiza. I think it was from Tim Graham? There really isn’t a satisfactory answer.

The Bills’ top leadership is in an unenviable position. How to balance the need to win without becoming complete hypocrites. Some folks already believe one or more of them to be hypocrites. This is the kind of situation that could eventually convince more to join that chorus.

I need to look back at some of the Araiza-based press conferences. Beane today kept saying that the Bills were not investigators and that they would follow the league’s lead. That struck me as a very different process than the one highlighted during the Araiza situation, where it seemed the Bills did more of their own investigating/decision making. Maybe that perception is wrong? Maybe the Bills and/or the league have changed their process since then? I don’t know… ‘Following the league’s lead’ just rang hollow to me.

I know one thing - if I were in the Bills brass’ shoes, I’d be royally pissed with Von.

Yeah i totally agree. Its not like its uncommon for folks facing charges or even a serious uncharged incident to face suspension, administrative leave or some for of paid leave pending investigation or fact finding.

In fact, the NFL does this all the time. As many pointed out did this with several cases where no one was (ever) charged....

The 800 pound gorilla in the room is the evidence i spoke of. There is significant evidence in this case, supposedly video evidence. (this came from Joe Marino or Matt Parrino I believe)

You gotta ask yourself if your Beane if there does turn out to be video, and if it does not look good...do you want to be embarrassed further? man I'd put him on sabbatical.

Not to split hairs but I believe Beane said something along the lines of “we have people investigating this but for the most part we rely on the league”.

While he did said they aren’t investigators he also said they have investigators. (Paraphrasing)

Who of the guys that are scratched every week are better and should justify being one of the 48 dressed?  Alec Anderson, Germain Ifedi, Poona Ford, A.J. The posters simply didn’t think that far ahead before he spoke.

They specifically got him to close out Kansas City.  Maybe Von's been sandbagging everyone with his sorry ass play.  If that's the case, he will unleash the Kraken in Arrowhead.

If he cannot give 110% while out there, he should sit himself down.

Last fall, he was one of the best players on the defense.  His presence on the edge was a big reason why the Bills led the league in pressure rate while blitzing the least.

This year, Von just isn’t the same player.  It would be unreasonable to expect him to pick up where left off.  As we saw with Tre, it sometimes takes a full year to recover after the ACL injury.

But unlike Tre, Von hasn’t shown very much improvement from week-to-week.  The past few weeks he faced backup and still has not gotten anywhere near the QB.

At this point, it makes you wonder whether he’ll ever get back to the player we saw in early 2022.  I’d probably bet that it’s a long shot.
