I would honestly say that Thurman was only behind Sweetness and Jim Brown. Other than that as an all around back, no one was better.

Wow, I don't know about that. Thurman was a very special running back, though.

No offense to Thurman, but he can’t hold Barry’s jockstrap.

House, it’s the holiday weekend.  No crapping in cornflakes.  😇

I used to get in bar talk arguments I would’ve taken Thrumon over Emmett Smith any day of the week.  I loved how versatile he was in all phases of the game.

It still chaps me Marv couldn’t get his head out of you know where and recognize what Parcells and BB we’re doing laying 8 back in that SB.  As it stands Thurmon had 135 rushing and 190 yards overall and we lost.  Had we just pivoted the Giants would e had to start placing more guys in the box and then the K Gun could’ve worked.

I remember it like it was yesterday.  It’s the only one of the four that really gets to me, because we were the better team.

Anyway, OP thanks for the fond memories on this red, white, and blue holiday weekend.

His vision and ability to cutback were just incredible.

The anti-Singletary.

Thurman would have scored on this play, instead of getting 2 yards.

💯 proof shy he sucked.

All of this first.

im not even sure Thomas was the best back to ever play for the Bills. OJ and Shady say hello.

also, these guys are pretty annoyed they get no love.
Marshall Faulk

Ladanian Tomlinson

Earl Campbell

Tony Dorset

Marcus Allen

Gale Sayers

I’d also throw in Priest Holmes and Terrell Davis for the short time they played the game. They were both dominant when they were healthy.

Ask Barry who kept his azz on the bench at OSU.
Id encourage you to know what you’re talking about before posting, but then we’d never hear from you.
WAIT!😳

Boy, as time goes on you kind of forget how great he was.

If Josh could have a weapon like this...look out!

A very good O line would help too 🤞

I agree with everything you wrote.

I tend to think OJ was the greatest runner of all time - or perhaps second behind Jim Brown.

But Thurm was a tremendous all-purpose back.  He could run, catch, and block.  He'd be perfect in this offense.

Would have won a couple if they OJ instead of Thurman.

That's putting a lot of pressure on a 57 year old running back, but even though Thurm probably needs glasses now to see the hole, he still might hit it faster than Motor.

Emmitt Smith:

18,355 rushing yards  (#1 most all time)

164 rushing TDs  (#1 most all time)

515 receptions 3,224 yards 11 TDs

11 straight seasons over 1,000 yards rushing.

He & Jerry Rice are the only non-kickers to score over 1,000 points.

Only RB ever to win the SB, League MVP, Rushing Crown & SB MVP on the same year (1993)

Emmit's greatest talent was longevity.  He never had a season where I personally thought he was the best RB that year.

Emmit's greatest talent was acting.  He would act like he was injured on field to give himself or his team a break and broadcasters would talk like his game / season / career was over and he'd take a play off without a timeout and then be back in game.

Take a good look at Barry's playoff performances...He's was a regular season wonder.

Barry averaged 4.2 ypc in the playoffs.

Thurman averaged 4.2 ypc in the playoffs.

Except Barry had crap for an offense and Thurman had the best offense in the league.

He has the record for rushing yards in a single season. Sorry Eric but 2,003 in 14 games beats 2,105 in 16 games. The difference is only 102 yards. If OJ played 16 games in 1973 he probably would have around 2200 or more the way, he was going that year.
