Taron Johnson appreciation post

Is there anyone else in that secondary today besides Johnson and Poyer that would ball hawk like that?!?  Just a great, aggressive play by Taron to fly towards the football for the INT.  Some of the other younger guys back there seem a little more reactionary...and will tackle the guy after he catches it.  Taron and Poyer just go after the ball and it's the difference in a close game yet again.

He gets beat sometimes, but has a knack for making really big plays like against Pittsburgh, Baltimore, KC (not all this year) etc. He makes 1 or 2 game winning/ game changing plays a season.

He looked great breaking on that ball but the issue was mahommes pump faked in that direction and taron started moving up and then mahommes threw to the same spot he pump faked a second later taron was already well in position and flying towards the spot.

Taron Johnson is criminally underrated. Not by the team - he’s earned every penny of that extension already. But this little subset of know-it-all fans that think you can move these guys around in the secondary like chess pieces. Taron makes that play because he knows his position, knows it well and plays that position better than pretty much anybody else in the league.

Taron’s play gives me a lot of hope for the young guys though. Taron was NOT good to start his career-he would give up touchdowns and first downs left and right. Then all of a sudden it clicked. It seems ever since he had that pick 6 against the Steelers a couple of years ago his mindset has completely changed. The young guys just need that time and experience which will give the Bills a ton of ball hawks in that secondary

For years Penn State was Linebacker U.  The Bills are becoming Defensive Back U.  They are able to take midround and late round defensive backs and even UDFAs and coach them up to become legitimate NFL players.

Both Frazier and McDermott were defensive backs and that insight seems to give them an eye for talent and they know how to coach them up once they bring them in.  Our secondary should be a strength for years to come with Tre, Taron, Elam, Hyde, and Benford all locked down.
