Bills cuts

No, my qualm is that they’ve clearly prioritized defense and defensive depth over offense…. obviously every team has a drop from starters to back ups… there is a steep drop for the Bills at certain offensive positions. (WR, TE, Tackle)

Its been our defense that has ended our last three seasons, and ALL teams have the same issues at certain positions on their offenses, its a given every single season for every single team,

So everyone’s depth is the same on every team? No team has better depth than anyone else?

If “what abouts and what ifs” were gold you’d be a very wealthy person.
The Bills “depth” hung quite well with other teams in the preseason, commentators and media folks all over the league talked about how the Bills cuts would be snapped up fast. Let the season play out, I doubt it’ll be perfect, but it’s going to be a fun ride. Enjoy it!

 Go Bills!!

So, it appears Hodgins didn't make it, or am I wrong?

Someone just tweeted the Bills are hoping to stash him on the practice squad.  With his injury history, I think that's doable.  I really would hate to lose him after a great off-season.  I can see where injury concerns would make them hesitate to let Crowder go in his place.

Besides the dead cap hit for Howard, I agree with all the moves they've made.

The Giants we're going to do that with Barkley.

Yeah but the difference might by Barkley likely wouldn't sign with Giants for PS.  IMO his plan is Buffalo or no where unless the Bills didn't place him o n their PS.  If the Giants were going to sign him to their 53, then different story.

This is a horrible take. Freddy was the best running back in the NFL during the 2011 season (at least). Marshawn asked to be traded because he knew FJ was better.

Fred played 10 games in 2011 and he wasn't better than LT, AP, MJD, Shady...

He was a good Bill on mediocre Bills teams.

Marshawn became unmotivated in Buffalo due to off field issues and on field mismanagement. Marshawn is heading to Hall of Fame, Fred might get his name on a wall in the new stadium

Cutdown day:

Where a bunch of fans freak out over who the Bills cut and -- assuming that every GM in the league loves our fringe roster guys as much as we Bills fans do -- swear those players will get scooped up immediately by other teams.....only for 99% of them to easily make it through to the practice squad.

Fun times.

I would like to think I have at least presented my alternative world as to what I might have done. One fewer well paid DT and that contract going on offense. Three well paid vet DTs plus running with Ankou or Byant (both of whom I think can play as backend of the roster NFL players) as a cheaper 4th option would have been the sacrifice I'd have made. The Bills made a different decision, I understand their thinking, but I think it is fair to say "not sure that's what I'd have done, let's see how it plays out."

I absolutely see your point. I wanted more on the offensive side of the ball (particularly along the Oline) as well. However, I wanted that defensive line fixed even more. One of the Bills' greatest weaknesses last year was their run defense. They needed a drastic overhaul to fix that and improve the pass rush at the same time. Everyone likes to point out the Pittsburgh and Jax games as evidence of offensive failure last year. They lost those games because they didn't play well, not because they needed more talent. I look at the losses to Tennessee, Indianapolis, and the first NE game where they got run over. Not because they didn't play well, but because they needed more talent.

Nah disagree. As an example, The Bills defensive depth is MUCH better than their offensive depth. Why do you think that is?

DUH!!! Its because our defense has ended our last couple seasons, its not the offense, that’s why the defense has continued to be propped up, its pretty darn obvious., as an aside; last early seasons O line woes were primarily poor use of available personnel and our O line coaches inability to recognize it.

So you figure Barkley will be cut and PS'd once they add a punter.  Andre Smith is going to be suspended.  So who else gets cut or put on a list?

Looks about right to me.

Barkley to PS.  Smith suspended.  McCloud or Lewis cut once we sign a punter, and then the other is cut when Tre White comes back.  Van Roten likely cut once Boettger comes back.
