Bills cuts

I see the OJ Howard cut and cap hit this way.

If they kept Howard, it costs $255k more than if they cut him.

They want Morris over Howard, and it works out like this.  Morris costs $705k

$705k - $255k = $450k

The bottom line is Howard did not look good and it's a "cut your losses" now instead of him taking up the roster spot and not playing well.

$405k more to keep Morris over Howard in the sense of keeping a better player (who is cost controlled next year too at $870k) is not

horrible to me.

Beane had a swing and a miss but no sense doubling down on poor play for the money.  I too thought OJ would be much better than how showed.

I know McBeane loves their ST specialists…but I’ll be disappointed if we couldn’t have let go at least ONE of Jones/Matakevich/Kumerow to make room for a guy like Hodgins

I always expected Matakevich to be retained, and probably Jones too. Kumerow is the one who I thought we might cut.

Hodgins is just a guy. Nothing special about him. I don’t think he got separation vs 3rd and 4th string DBs.

If Cam Lewis and McCloud are making it then White must be going on PUP

Agree.

Agree. He is a better than average contested catch guy. And that is his best trait. He doesn't do anything at a high level.

Depth WR for sure, but I like that he profiles more on the outside vs our current 3-5 WR who are best in the slot. Our outside WR depth is really bad if Diggs or Davis misses time

Perhaps Barkley knows he’s going to be cut but has already said he won’t accept any other offers and will stay with the PS?

I don't think Matt is subject to waivers. So I suspect he has said I'm staying put on the PS and that is already a done deal.

Beane says one thing about protecting Josh and does another by going all in on defense.

Time will tell and I know I repeated myself all off-season, but their playing 2nd fiddle to the offense was a disappointing approach.

Living up to your rep there Scott, you complain endlessly, what’s so special is you complain about the fav team to win it all, amazing, you should just scare the hell out of everyone and post something positive about the Buffalo Bills one day…,

Wasn’t super impressed with Hodgins, who averaged like 8.5 yards per catch vs 3rd stringers.

He definitely did not show big play ability, but he did show his ability to provide contested catches and his strong sideline awareness.

barkley may make it through today and get cut tomorrow - they still need to sign a punter.

They’ll cut him after practice and have him as a well-paid PS player.  No reason to have him miss practice today if you plan to keep him around, especially if he has to hold/punt.

Can you summarize what was said by Dawkins about Ford? I’ve heard about that on the board, but was never able to find a quote online. It certainly seems bad for Ford if teammates feel the need to publicly shame him.

It was an article in The Athletic - discussed here.  Dion used the words complaining and pouting referring to him

Can you even imagine what a "positive vibes only" post from ScottLaw would look like?

Well this is certainly an optimistic way how to look at things.

I can imagine another perspective. The one where we keep Morris for his actual and amazing cap $705K, and not for "adjusted" cap hit of $3,3M you just calculated :)

I have a question. Does the order of the so far announced cuts (stating they are hopefully to be added to the practice squad if not signed elsewhere) does that have any relevance? Are they releasing said hope to be practice squaded players early for a reason?

No.  The information on cuts right now isn't coming from the Bills, but from the player's agents as recounted to national guys like Schefter etc, or from local guys like Ryan Talbot who with his brother Damond Talbot has some connections especially with the small school, UDFA players.

The difference you're seeing between "hope to sign him to the practice squad" is whether the news comes from a national reporter with strong agent connections (like Schefter or Rapaport) or a local reporter with player connections (like Talbot)
