Ex Bill Frank Gore to Fight in Tampa Saturday Night

T&C

Recommended Posts

They've been showing a lot of the lead up down here this week... I'll switch between the Pats/Colts game and this until the fight actually starts. 9pm means nothing, they drag it out a long time lol. Frank hasn't left off working out from his NFL career, guy is buff. The ex basketball player is taller but I think/hope he takes him out with sheer brute force.

Go Frank!

The builds of the two combatants are not very similar.

Williams has a typical, slender, NBA sort of frame and is 6'3" and 200 lbs.

Gore is 5'9" and like 215 lbs; built more like a gorilla.

15 pounds heavier on a 6" shorter frame tells you just how differently he is built.

Williams should enjoy a huge reach advantage, but it won't matter!

I'm going to say Frank Gore kills him.

He used boxing as training when he was still with us, I think he'll do fine.

I would not want to put myself between Frank Gore and something he wants to accomplish.

Legendary resilience, work ethic  and heart.

Me neither... the video I've seen of him lately says the same. I'm gonna say that he beats the crap out of the BB player.

I admire Frank Gore but it may be time to give the old body a break and enjoy being a multi-millionaire.  He doesn't have to prove anything to anyone.  We all know he is tough as nails and has the heart of a champion.

He's 36 not 76. He'll be just fine.

Maybe he's just proving something to himself

That was exactly my first thought.   I hope he is doing it because it fills a need in his soul, and not because he made poor money decisions.

It would be the former, not the latter. He's been into boxing for quite awhile... and its not like he's fighting George Foreman in his prime... its an ex NBA player with the same dream. I live in the TB area so I might see more "local" news but in one interview he said it was nice to drop his kids off at school... and then pick them up. He seemed pretty on top of things... and determined. Like someone mentioned above, I wouldn't want to get between him and his desire... he's pretty stacked.

The casino and the better hotels are sold out for this one... guess the main draw is some youtuber I've never heard of and some other guy I've never heard of.

Real boxing is kind of dead imo.

I am very sorry to see this. As tough as he was/is, he has taken too much punishment to put himself at this much risk.

Jmo.

Yeah that's a good point. It's not like he's hard up for money and he probably wants to do it so on one hand good for him, but CTE is an issue. It also seems like every retired athlete is boxing or trying MMA nowadays, and a few of those brains probably really shouldn't be.

15 of those years were carrying the rock in the NFL.

He's not quite 76, but he's not 36 either.

Probably more like 56 I would suggest.

So, are you on board with he shouldn’t be doing this? Frank Gore is probably in better shape than anyone on these boards.

I’m pretty sure he won’t leave the ring like Apollo Creed.

Competitive people love to compete. While I can't comment on his financial status, we do know this fella has the heart of a warrior.

He's not doing it for the money. But because he is alive, and likes to feel alive. Not everyone wants to reach death safely while living a bland life.

edit: nice to see him spar in Bills gear :)

There are a lot of things he could do to feel alive that don't involve cumulative head trauma.  He is clearly free to make his own choices and is doing so.  Hopefully it works out for him but the long term odds are not in his favor.

This Jake Paul-era of boxing is sad and pathetic.

I was hoping to possibly get back into boxing someday (was an avid fan from the late 70s to the early 90s), but I'm afraid it'll never happen.

You don’t have to watch this stuff to get back into boxing.  There are a bunch of talented fighters out there

I heard him on the Pat McAfee show. I think he just really wants to do for himself.

He sounds pretty excited about it. Just wants to keep competing somehow I guess

He isn't proving anything to anyone, hes doing what he wants to do and my hat's off to him.

Is that illegal? I really don't follow this stuff. Didn't look that dirty. He just gave him a shove with his forearms and gloves. Maybe looked worst because Gore fell through the ropes.

The problem wasn't so much the shove, it was the hook he threw while Gore was down.

That's a no-no.

Other than proving he's in game shape I really don't know why he did this. And proving your in game shape doesn't include getting beat pretty easily. It's not money at all, there's no way that partial robot Frank Gore is broke, and he's never done anything weird. He also had several interviews about this fight and it all kind of sounded like he wanted to just compete and showcase his health/skills. Got to protect that brain though, Frank. This was dumb.
