So what is the Defensive Gameplan?

The real key to me is have other people besides the 2 beat you. I would bracket Kelce off the line. This involves the DE on his side and the Nickel or LB chucking him within 5 yards. If he splits into the slot then we need to have a Safety pressed on him with a LB looking outside in on him to hit him if he runs an inside route.

The Chiefs favorite concept is an over route where Kelce drags one way across the field while Hill runs a flat post across the field utilizing his speed to stretch a defense. I think someone said that their passing playbook is like 38% of this concept in different variations and formations.

If that’s the case I would play about 5 yards off Hill with a 2 deep shell where Poyer and Hyde have to communicate Hill on all plays and track with him across the field.

Take those 2 away the best you can and make Helaire, Hardeman, Pringle etc beat you. Johnson is supposed to be good enough and should be able to contain Hardeman or Pringle

To your first point, the Bills inexplicably Give Kelce a free release. I think some film nerd did a deep dive on this, and Kelce will kill you every time with a free release. Half the time he goes out and turns and catches the ball And falls Down, and it’s like 10

yards. You need to blow him up at the line.

I think the original game plan will be if our front 4 can get home to Mahomes. If so Kelce and Hill will get lots of double team and every now and then send a 5th. If the front 4 does not get home then expect lots of man/zone combo... expect the bills to change their defense often during the game.  Bottom line to win we either have to force punts or force FG's.  Thats how we win this game.

You hit the QB early, hard and often. Nothing dirty, just make him drop his eyes a little to check the oncoming rush before throwing rather than sitting back and scanning the field. D-line rotation will be important because we're likely rushing 4 and dropping everyone else. We should be able to do that this year rather than relying on blitzes for pressures. Make him pay that Patrick Price if he wants to drop back and pass.

Jam Kelce at the line, just mug him within 5 yards.

I think in the first quarter they see how the Dline plays on Mahomes and force Mahomes to be patient taking away Kelce via double teams and Hill deep by playing two deep zone. Let the other WR’s beat you short.

If the Dline can’t get pressure then I think they dial up the blitzes and just take chances or play back and let the defense surrender short yardage and play for field goals in the redzone.

Force turnovers and limit big plays. Mahommes is going to get his so I would imagine they stick with a base pass rush, soft zones, and man coverage for Kelce/Hill. Hopefully the d-line rotation is up for the task. It's going to take batted balls at the line and collapsing the pocket to force what I think will decide the game from a defensive perspective.... turnovers.

have Tre White Follow Kelce all over the field.

Have Hill Doubled

Pressure Mahomes and make the WR2 have a game to beat you.

100% agree. You can stop elite TEs with elite Corners. I would be fine if White played man to man with Kelce the whole game and they played zone everywhere else

Play a 3 safety Cover 3 like Tampa did in the Super Bowl. Get pressure sending 3 or 4 men. When you do blitz overload so as to force Mahomes to a sideline (preferably running left) while playing press man with 1 safety deep on Hill’s side of the field.

Different from what it was the last 2 meetings that's for sure

I don't think the first game in the regular season was a bad game plan. They allowed CEH to run and kept everything in front of them limiting the BIG chunk plays. It was a good plan considering the factors that time.

1. No Milano to help with Kelce.

2. Weather was bad making it difficult to slow the run game.

3. Lack of pass rush and pressure.

4. Covid really hurt game prep with the Tennessee fiasco the previous week.

Even with all that IIRC we were only down 6 with over 6 minutes left and just missing a fumble recovery deep in their territory.

Hopefully Milano plays. Hopefully weather is dry and calm. Hopefully our revamped D front makes Mahomes uncomfortable. Hopefully we pull out the win. LFGo Bills!!!

I'd say run Tre White on Hill all night and keep a high safety for help, as well as doubling Kelce when possible. Try to confuse Mahomes out of his reads so that he takes longer to get rid of the ball and we can test the O-line all game.

They may put White on Hill, but I don't think that's the obvious solution. In my opinion, if they're gonna bracket Hill all game, do it with Levi and a safety. Let Tre White frustrate Kelce the way he did to Gronk.
