Dolphins say something similar. Their motto is: “you come to Miami and you’ll be the worst version of yourself.”

And then cut one year into your deal.

Oddly true as the Dolphins did sign a bunch of guys last offseason that have moved on from rather quickly.

I thought it had to do with getting as much blow as you want.

Like McD says, you come to Buf and you'll become the best version of yourself. Certainly looks that way with Lawson and Phillips

We'll see on Jordan Phillips.  He was injured last year.  But some here feel he overachieved here in a contract year (and similar for Shaq)

'Zona for reals hasn't gotten what they paid for with Phillips yet.

I don't know if Lawson would make this roster. 😮

I do.  Nope.

Wait....when did he get traded to Houston and what for?

March, for LB Bendardrick McKinney and a late round pick swap

And I can't tell you how good it feels to be able to answer a straightforward football Q

Houston is in complete tear-down mode. Losing JJ Watt and the Deshaun Watson situation made this a miserable offseason for Texans fans.

Bad Ownership.

Texans have a pastor who thinks he is the owner, an owner that thinks he is a pastor, a GM who thinks he is a coach and a coach that would like to retire.

It really started to crumble giving Bill O Brien the Coach and GM positions.   Had the idiot owner Cal McNair had any brains O Brien would have been fired on the spot for trading DeAndre Hopkins for a washed out running back who may also get cut this year.

I enjoyed Lawson and Phillips personality on the team but not really an opening for them here.

I enjoyed Phillips as well, great teammate but the Bills have moved beyond him, especially for the $ involved.  Lawson "won" us one game when he got Leonard Fournette in a huff and kicked out of the game but I am glad to see any remnants of Rex depart.

So lemme get this right:

He leaves a playoff team for an inferior one, signs a 4 year deal worth about 40 million, then gets traded to the downward spiralling Texans, and has now been downgraded to a backup?

What a fall from grace.

Shaq is pretty much what I thought he would be pre draft.  He’s a solid DE who is good against the run and can get some sacks with effort.  He belongs on an NFL roster.  In the right scheme he can be your second DE and he can be a rotational/third DE in others.  A lot of fans had unrealistic expectations for him when he was drafted.  Too many compared him to Mario and thought he’d be that kind of player, which was ridiculous.  He’s a decent player, but 3 for $30M was a contract I was happy we didn’t give him.

Let's say you can sign Roberts for whatever his vet minimum is and lets say we can afford it. Do you do it?

I think the better question is who does it cost you on cutdown day.

I think I'd be more inclined to roll with a younger buck who might be a better WR in case we lose somebody to injury or quarantine.

AND on the trading block/cutting floor if not traded

Correct

NFL = Not For Long

It seems he was a guy who felt entitled when he got drafted, busted his hump in a contract year, then "retired in place" a bit when he got paid.

I was disappointed when we didn't re-sign him, and various people expressed the above view.  In hindsight, they had a point.

Wrote on here a few days ago Texans would likely cut Shaq Lawson and Andre Roberts.  Roberts is old and has virtually no potential trade value.

Other than the money, I assume Roberts figured he’d get a lot more opportunities returning kickoffs with Houston?

If and that is a BIG IF the Texans had any common sense, you think they should keep an old vet returner Like Andre Roberts or acknowledge they are in a major probably multi year rebuild and look for young talent.  I think they already did that be releasing JJ Watt.

Is that official team released?  Amazing if true.  They paid him a bunch of guaranteed money.

It was OurLads from 2 days ago.

The team chart looks like it hasn't been updated.

CBS was the one that had him listed as injured.

Maybe not but Roberts would be welcome back I would think.

I posted this on another thread a month or so ago - the data to me doesn't seem to justify how Roberts provides value for a spot on the roster.

"This data is from last October, but I have always been a bit skeptical of Andre Roberts .. he takes them out all the time and on average we were one of the better teams re: starting field position.. but by just a little bit ( a yard or two). I also think that Josh like most QBs struggle more when backed up .. I would be fine if Mackenzie took a knee every time .. and he has the added advantage of being a real WR.

The chart is pretty interesting so I would recommend taking a look".

Stevenson gets exposed to waivers IMO in this case
