2018 draft

I have a hard time believing it's the NFL's best draft ever.

Not sure I even agree with the supposition that Beane hit on "every single player".

I mean, I like Beane but this analysis seems fantastical with a buggy placed squarely in front of the horse.

He said “best draft in bills history”

Other than trading up for Edmunds, Harrison Phillips being on the bubble all year....... big stretch to say EVERY pick. Regardless of how you feel on Edmunds, no he hasnt lived up to his draft selection

3 years, 2 pro bowls.  Idk.  He’s lived up to his draft selection and I’m one of his bigger critics. He’s just frustrating because he’s so talented and should be better imo.

he may not live up to the next contract he’s going to receive, but he’s been a good player.  Not every 1st round pick has to be first team all pro to live up to their pick.  It’s not like he was a top 10 pick

From the sense that we’ve finally landed our franchise QB after 20 odd years? Yes. I still think Josh Allen will deliver us a Championship. I guess you could say it’s one of our best drafts ever for that reason alone.

I think Edmunds has been underwhelming as the QB of our defense but I also think that he is 1.) Playing out of position and 2.) Isn’t being allowed to attack and be aggressive the way he should be. If Edmunds were to walk and play in a different scheme and in a different capacity he could be a much better player than he has been. I have a very low opinion of Leslie Frazier.

LMAO.

You better check out the 1974 Pittsburgh Steelers draft, Junior.

In fact, the 2018 draft doesn't hold a candle to the Bills 1985 draft.

While 85 certainly provided two HOFers as well as the greatest backup quarterback of all time (just my opinion, Don Strock would argue,) 87 may have had more talent. Conlan, Odomes, and Ballard were all solid starters for 5+ years and made a couple pro bowls. McKellar, Seales and Muellar all started a few years and provided quality depth when not starting. Add in Cornelius Bennett and it rivals any draft class of any team (not sure if it is fair to add in biscuit or not since he came via trade, but he was part of the 87 draft class.) Clearly both draft classes figured heavily in the run to 4 straight super bowls!

No, Edmunds very much has.

Bills fans pick his game apart, and although I don’t really care about Pro Bowl selections... he’s been chosen for 2 of them in 3 years. So he must be doing something right. The thing us fans get frustrated about is the fact he can get SO MUCH better.

He’s also not even 23 yet. Joe Burrow just turned 24.

Really? I mean in the sense it brought us Josh, yes. But hit on every pick?

1 - Josh Allen - massive hit

1 - Tremaine Edmunds - hit

3 - Harrison Phillips - jury is out.... I would have said miss as recently as week 14. Put together a decent little period in December and January.

4 - Taron Johnson - hit

5 - Siran Neal - meh... decent special teamer but year 3 and he has been no more than a spot duty backup on D

5 - Wyatt Teller - hit but for someone else

6 - Ray Ray McCloud - miss

7 - Austin Proehl - nepotism.

Josh Allen will be 25 at the start of next season.

What does that have to do with anything?  Are we about to ship him off to the glue factory

Well if he backs it up next year with a solid year then I'll be sure to upgrade him. But through two years he had been cut three times. He did have a nice year as a returner in 2020... you need more than 1 year of that for me to consider you a draft hit.

It means he has 2 more years NFL experience and he's a year younger.  He's a very young player coming up on his 4th year.

So, in your opinion, a player with 2 years of college experience starting, and 10 games of NFL experience, who is 24 has less room to grow than a 3 year starter in college and 3 years of NFL years of NFL experience who is about to be 23?

No that's not what the point was at all.  It was just a comparison to show how young Edmunds really is.  That's it.

But does age really matter relative to playing time? If Edmunds was 25, would it really matter?

I'm a huge critic of Edmunds but he is a 3 year starter so it's fair to say he is a hit. Is he a star? No. I actually think he is a very poor MLB, but there are other first rounders that wash out of the league in three years or never start.

Any draft that brings a HOF talent is far better than 2018 or any draft regardless of the rest of the draftees. Only time will tell on 2018.

trading up for Leonard would have been better, IMO.

overall, a very good draft.  every pick is currently contributing, here or somewhere else.  The headline pick in J. Allen was fantastic.

Hard to compare drafts from different years. Every year a team has different needs. I think the fairest way would be to simply look at the quantity of players that succeed vs we picked Allen its obviously the best.

So along those lines...

2018: Two potential career starters in Allen and Edmunds. 3-5rd is three potential contributors. 6-7 is nothing.

Even looking at just 2019 - Oliver, Ford, Singletary and Know are 4 potential long term starters. Maybe not as set in stone as Allen/Edmunds. Plus the Johnsons in 6-7.

Bottom line hard to ever say best. But you can say good or bed. The past few years have been good in that we have players that are contributing.

Agreed there are plenty of other drafts that were better. Throughout Bills and NFL history.

But man, tough to compare modern drafts with those older drafts.

The 1985 draft was 12 rounds! Bills had the 1st pick, and 17 total picks! Frank Reich was the first pick of the 3rd round, and he was our 5th player taken!

GMs today would kill to have that many chances.

The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted 4 Hall of Famers in the first five rounds.

GM's today get their pick of anyone they wish after seven rounds. They just have to beat other out to get to their target.

Yeah two Hall of Famers from the 1985 class may debate this point.

You didn’t answer. How is the age relevant in your opinion?

Dude, it was simply a comparison to show he’s young.  He wasn’t trying to say Edmunds has more growth potential.  Its just he’s young and has room.

Its just a statement a 3 year guy is 2 years younger than a 1 year guy....

You massively over complicated his simple statement.

I’m younger than Tom Brady.

What does this matter?

Well, Ross Cockrell (hidden Whaley gem) may just get a ring on Sunday.. and if he doesn't, Sammy will get another. Not too shabby!

I was kind of caught off guard (no pun intended) when they traded Teller to the Browns he seemed to be a Bills type player the blue color type and now that all the what to do at guard position is going on it's sad that we had him in the building and traded him but i'm glad he's doing well but boy that would have been a nice player to have on the team going forward !!

Kinda the opposite, really. After the draft, the UDFAs end up in a better situation where they have a say and get to pick where they go. We lost out on a couple of UDFAs just last year.
