He made his defense work in Minnesota with good pass rushers and solid Dline play. I think Frazier’s bend don’t break defense needs guys capable of making plays to function properly. We have no playmakers, and this defense isn’t going to function well without them. The part that sucks is that I think he is one of the best secondary coaches. I think he is a little out of his league at DC.

We never did great shutting down the run since McD and Frazier got here, but the pass D was solid. In a pass happy league, we were able to neutralize opponent’s with that pass defense. The 2017 season was a masterclass in solid secondary play for the most part. Frazier doesn’t have the roster to make up for lack of scheme in other areas. One pass rusher could make all the difference in the world, but we just don’t have that.

As an old olineman, it would have been a thing of beauty to see if it wasn’t against my team. As anyone who has played any level of football knows, rarely does it work out like it is drawn up, defenders aren’t where they are ‘supposed to be’. In that game the Bills were not only right where they were ‘supposed to be’, they left an open exposed chest for the olinemen to get into and drive them back with superior leverage. Not sure I have ever seen that at the professional level. Edited October 22, 2020 by atlbillsfan1975

If he played in the game on Monday, wasn't he added to the 53 at that time? As far as how he played, I don't think it can be said that any of the Bills defensive linemen played well on Monday, but Zimmer did make a couple of hustle plays and seemed to give a lot of effort, so perhaps that elevates him above the others and earned him a spot on the roster. He certainly didn't appear to be any worse than anyone else on the D-line. He does hustle and have heart. I think a few of the new DLsignees don't. Freddie's Dead
OK, so dude got blown up on some running plays. Bottom line, he came within milliseconds of creating a turnover which would have won the game, and he made a crucial 3rd down stop to keep the Bills alive. Did ANYBODY else on defense even make a single play that made a difference? We used to like players who made plays.

WideNine
He's not a 1-tech, and he is not the answer there, but he played with a lot intensity and did not do a terrible job splitting the center and guard on some plays that helped disrupt the backfield. When trying to take on those double teams, he is just going to have to stay square to the line and drop his knee and try to create a log jam. This is a line that needs an infusion of a talented big-bodied run-stuffing anchor someday. Dareus really screwed over this org by collecting his money, a six year 108 million with a 65 million in guarantees and a 25 million dollar signing bonus then promptly checking out. He could have been that key piece if he had the competitive heart to play the game and some pride in his job. Star has been decent filling in as he could stand his ground. Dareus in prime shape would have given a double-team all it could handle. Edited October 22, 2020 by WideNine

Assumed they'd just use Spain's roster spot for him. Now do they release Boettger or something? I think Jon won't get activated this week. We are playing the Jets after all. If that's the plan they got a week to figure out the DL situation. Some vet DL may just get outright cut next week. Can't see Beane keeping 10 DLs for too long. YoloinOhio
He’s a beast. I call him my quiet assassin,” Hughes said. “He comes in the building early, he’s working hard and he’s just flying around trying to make plays. And that’s our makeup of the team, guys who want to hit the field, who are hungry, who want to make plays. And for Zim to go out there, every opportunity he’s got, he’s in the backfield tossing offensive linemen off, taking double teams. He’s being that force that we need him to be. So it’s fun watching him play just because of the way he prepares throughout the week. It’s always great to see someone else who’s in the building super early.” Zimmer was not invited to the scouting combine or Senior Bowl but demonstrated his eyepopping strength and athleticism at Michigan’s pro day in 2016. He had the requisite size to play as an interior defensive lineman in the NFL, at 6 feet, 2 5/8 inches and 302 pounds, and impressive agility, running a 4.85-second 40-yard dash, a 4.4 shuttle and a 7.01 three-cone drill. He had a 32-inch vertical jump, a 9-9 broad jump and benched 225 pounds a staggering 44 times – 10 more reps than any prospect at the combine that year. Zimmer is actually the brightest spot on the D-line right now, he made positive plays throughout the Chiefs game. Something seemed to go awry almost every time Ed Oliver stepped onto the field. This is just a ginormous lie and it shows how uninformed Bills' fans can be. I expect a big improvement on the D-line if Zimmer s given more snaps. Probably the most physically imposing player on the defense; the coaches have to find a way to get Ed Oliver impacting the defense because right now his play is underwhelming---not very dominant at all. 1
