End The Drought Posted November 2, 2018 Share Posted November 2, 2018 Given what we all know: Would it be better to have Josh Allen sit the rest of the season? Having him sit would allow him to get 100% healthy for next year and would allow him to actually learn how to grasp the offense and it’s concepts in a pressure free situation. Not to mention it would also put us in full tank and a better chance atthe top pick. The downside to having Josh sit is that he would be missing out on the valuable game experience he would gain week to week. However, it could also be argued that throwing him out there with the current group will continue to hurt his development and further risk injury. Thoughts..... And with that kind of talent even if JA plays poorly will we even know what he is? He has so little help. And no matter how he plays hes gonna start next year anyway. Idk. He needs to learn how to read the defense on the fly,,,,and how to better manage himself in the pocket. The game experience, even in meaningless games, is more important than developing on the bench. However, I fear from watching college tape & live action with the Bills that if he is "the guy" he will be an average to good "guy" rather than a good to very good "guy". We shall see. Evaluate HIM in as many games as possible. For example, he missed open throws prior to his injury. Can he cut down on the missed opportunities? Can he hang longer in the pocket? Can he be more decisive? It isn't about statistics, or even wins/losses. It is about exposing him to as many situations as possible to try and see if he will adapt and grow or fail. Post bye week would be perfect. It would allow time for full recovery and give him one start against each divisional opponent. Like I said, letting him experience these situations from the field is most important at this time. Again, don't tell me "he could get injured". He could always get injured. So could Aaron Rogers, or Drew Brees. It's a contact sport. You never know when it is your day. They are trying to build an atmosphere of playing for each other, being accountable and thinking of the team first. Sitting when you are healthy and the team is desperate at your position doesn't fit that model. Also, if you sit Allen because you don't want him to get hurt then why are the other top guys playing and risking injury? If you're tanking the season then why play anyone who is in their plans for next season? Its a slippery slope. If you are not injured you play. I guess you don't like apple pie either. He needs to get the reps even though he has no help. I'm afraid that come January, we will not know anymore than we know today. We need to get a running game, otherwise, this kid will be running for his life when he gets back in. Not a good situation to evaluate a QB.
