Beane knows the importance of a franchise QB. Unfortunately for Mahomes the Panthers, where Beane was employed at the time of the draft already had Cam Newton. Plus I think Gettleman ran the draft. Comsidering that Mahomes was drafted on April 27th, 2017 and Brandon Beane wasn't hired by the Bills until May 9th, 2017, I'd say no. It wasn't his first mistake because he wasn't even our GM yet. billsfan89 Posted January 11, 2018 Share Posted January 11, 2018 Mahomes is in a good place to have success but the guy hasn't played much, his one game was fairly decent against a team that was beaten down at the last game of the season. So I honestly have no clue how good or bad he will be, but I think the Chiefs will be putting Mahomes in a good spot to have success. Andy Reid is an offensive guru, they let him learn from Alex Smith an established veteran for a year, Hunt, Kelce, and Hill are dynamic weapons and their O-line isn't in a bad spot. But it was a HUGE mistake by McDermott. Whoever we get this year won’t be as good as Mahomes I’m willing to bet, and the divide between who we get and Mahomes probably won’t be bridged by Tre White and I love White. But that was a stupid mistake and it will come back to haunt McDermott if they don’t get a top-5 QB in this draft because that’s how good Mahomes is gonna be. Haha, that would be hilarious. I've never been a Smith fan but he played well. At the same point, there always seems to be a ceiling with how far he can take you. essential Posted January 11, 2018 Share Posted January 11, 2018 (edited) I wanted Mahomes at 10. That was my stance prior to the draft, and I still think we missed an opportunity by not taking him. Not trolling at all, he was my favorite QB last year. Now, Beane wasn't here yet, and if Mahomes was dubbed a Whaley guy, maybe it would just lead to more dysfunction somehow. I think it's better to draft a QB with McBeane having a full year to figure out what they want ... but I think we will regret passing on Mahomes (and hindsight is 20/20 but Watson as well).
