This coaching staff…

Bad losses when then should be W’s. Always seems like ground hog’s day. At some point you have to blame the people running the show.  I’m starting to think McD & staff has run it’s course.

I'm on board with this. The real issue is who is going to be available to coach at a high level? It's not easy finding a good quality coach. If one is out there I think it's worth considering. Truthfully, coach McD and company haven't fully recovered from the Bills 13 second disaster. Maybe the players and fans haven't either...

You would've thought about handing the ball to a running back 3 yards deep in the end zone? That was out the window imo

No…you don’t hand it to the RB.  I would have given Josh the option to stretch the defense on a keeper and if it isn’t there, throw it away.

The fact that the coaching staff can’t get this team to stay focused for 60 minutes is a real problem.

Who is going to get the coaching staff to stay focused for 60 minutes?

Coaching staff is great.  They didn't have a good day today in a couple of spots.

"They didn't have a good day today" is starting to get a little old. At some point, accountability needs to be implemented.

When Edmunds went down D was missing six starters: Hyde, Poyer, White, Edmunds, Groot and Elam.  Put any four of them in and it is a different game.  I hate the negativity.

Is that the positive for today?

Hell, I'll even give Frazier a tiny pass because literally all our starters are out. Cam Lewis STINKS. Dane Jackson STINKS. Bedford had a nice pick, then had a crucial penalty late in the game. THEY STINK.

Well I believe they blitzed once in the first half. Your defending Jefferson, the TE and Cook. You're  not getting pressure leaving these young guys out to dry. This is the worst Defensive coaching that there is. You can throw stats all you want, but every team knows how to beat us cause we gonna rush fo and not pose a threat. Von Miller and all the moves on Dline will just be a waste if we can't be creative with mixing in blitzes. Look at what the Vikings sent all day long.

And they still would have won the game had they kicked a FG rather than going for it on 4th and 2 from the 7 yard line. (Josh first INT).  That final FG would have been the winner 33-30...game ends in regulation.

Could the game have still possibly been won? Yeah. But call me crazy, I don't think Justin Jefferson would have went off for 193 yards if we had even a couple of those guys. Injuries are becoming too much to overcome against the good teams.

I don't like Frazier's schemes. This constant nickel doesn't work. We need to go to a base three linebacker set, with a big, fast, physical OLB on Edmund's right side. Cook would not have had that 81 run TD with a right side LB at home. Also, what good is nickel if you can't even double cover Jefferson the whole game. Frazier needs too be shown the door but McDermott won't do it out of loyalty. Reminds me of Wade Phillips' loyalty to his ST coordinator, that ultimately got him fired.

He hasn’t “regressed”. That’s stupid talk. You don’t regress from one week to the next. Did he look like he regressed in the first half of today’s game?

What he has done is hit a rough patch and apparently doesn’t have the ***** coaching staff that will reign him in and let him know the easy pass is sometimes the best pass.

He’s just been too reckless with the ball the last 10 plus quarters.

...as he has been in the past where he was forcing the ball deep to well-covered receivers.

That is the very definition of regression.

Allen is back to the Allen we have all yelled at before to take what the defense was giving in front of the sticks.

Check it down to your play makers. Let them make a play. He has options underneath that are more than capable of moving the chains.

I like Allen, I just don't like the Allen that is impatient and trying to do too much, does not spread the ball around, and tries to force the home run throw.

Dorsey needs to figure out how to reign that behavior in the way Daboll must have had to do at other times when Allen showed the same tendencies.

Josh Allen throws 2 interceptions in the end zone and fumbles in his own and we  want to put it on the coaching. Yes, the decision to go for it on 4th and 2 was bad, and I hated it, but the rb leaking out the backside was wide open, and instead Josh threw it right to a defense. We want to crucify the coaching for having confidence in Allen, it’s Allen that needs to make the best decision on each play…and he’s not.

He has completely missed going through his progressions.  It's been so bad the last three games that its been the number 1 reason this team is on a 2 game losing streak right now.  Allen is not doing his job reading the field.  He needs to approach each play with the the goal of moving the chains.  He constantly tries the home run ball to much.  His throws today were a mixed bag.  Diggs one handed catch was a absolute crap throw by Allen.  He overthrew him by a mile.  Diggs made a unreal catch.

I don’t disagree with your take. I just disagree with the regression term. I mean, Josh will turn the ball over now until the time he retires that will piss us off and point to when he was young. Favre also did a lot of that.

Regression to me is that he does not have what he has shown for the past two plus seasons. I all think we know he still has that. Heck, his first half showed that.

He’s just in a funk and I know you are right about Dorsey and McDermott. Time for them to point out to Allen that he is hurting the team with these decisions. Time for some tough love. I have no doubt Allen will get back on track if that happens. He needs a blunt talking to that he doesn’t have to make an eye popping play every time he drops back.

Coaching staff cant go out on the field and bat down the ball on 4th and 18.

Coaching staff can't go out on the field and stop the muffed snap.

Coaching staff cant tell Allen to take the play up the middle in OT rather than throwing behind Davis for the INT.

You can even go further, Coaching staff cant get Poyer/White/Elam/Hyde healthier.  They are working with 2 5th round CBs and a 7th rounder.

And the Bills have lost 3 games by a COMBINED 8 points.  In an alternate reality we are 9-0.  Its unfortunate, but this team is just making mistakes when it hurts the most.  And we havent been healthy since week 2.

Actually, that's the definition of coaching (with the exception of injuries).  You coach your player before the play to bat the ball down or double or triple the most threatening opposing player on the field for that important play.

You coach Allen to throw it out of the end zone unless he's 100% he's going to connect and not confused by anything or you design a play where the middle is not an option.

With the sneak, you re-iterate to your players how important this play is and get them completely focused.

Those are all instances of the importance of coaching.  That's what coaching is.

The lack of running game imagination is ridiculously bad.

We had these same complaints last year about Daboll when we went through that bad streak mid season and sat at 7-6 before winning our last 4.  We are playing a much tougher schedule this year as well and we've had many more injuries to key players.   It sucks when we lose...especially when that loss could have just as easily been a win.  Still...as someone said earlier.  We've lost 3 games to 3 teams with winning records by a total of 8 pts.   One week at a time.

Correct.  And if the players don't do the correct thing is the coach or the player at fault?

Maybe in Peewee... But in the NFL, players have an expectation to make at least a semi-cognizant decision.  Its 4th and 18, your coach doesnt need to walk to every player saying "this is your role on this play".

You dont think Mcd's preaching ball security in crucial situations during practice?  The Bills have done a fantastic job coaching Allen to what he is now, but Allen has been prone for years trying to play hero ball.  He deserves blame for his mistakes.

Morse is a quality center, but he and Allen absolutely did not execute at the goaline. That play is on the players.

Its naive to think the coaches dont coach general smart practices (ball security, bat down balls, take whats given to you).  But the players HAVE. TO. EXECUTE.  And they aren't

My answer would be if it is rare that they don't do the correct thing, then it's on the player.

If it happens on a more frequent basis...then I look at it as a reflection of the coach not doing his job

That play should have been run out of the shot gun.  Allen can run for space, or throw it away and take a few seconds off the clock. two more times to take time off the clock, then take the safety.

In hindsight yes, but that QB sneak has been 3-6 yards per in all situations this year

That's fair.  Lewis did not knock the ball down.  He's a backup for a reason.  Josh's decisions and turnovers are concerning.  He seems to be pressing.

Hines 1 catch 9 yds. 0 carries.

Shakir 1 catch 6 yds.

That's it. They didn't contribute bc they weren't used. No idea why we got them or Cook, we don't use them.

Everything is put on Josh every play w/ no help from the coaches or anyone not named Diggs. So he feels he has to do it all & he presses & makes mistakes. That regression is bc this "system" Dorsey has doesn't work. Need to start having others step up, but got to use them 1st. Dorsey has not been good enough.

It bothers me that, at the press conferences, the media never ask direct questions of the coaches as to why players who are making plays are being under-utilized. I mean, that John Wawrow guy sounds like he can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

It was not hindsight. It was a blunder to risk the turnover there. I said it before the play in shoutbox. Total coaching blunder

You gotta admit, we are and have been horrible in situational football the past couple years.  You might not coach that exact situation in practice, but it’s definitely on the coaches to put guys on the field they trust to make the right plays.

It's all good... and mostly semantics.

We are all in the same stinking boat right now with our team. Frustrated and just wanting them to stop beating themselves.

How many RZ turnovers will it take before Allen stops making the same mistakes.

Roll to the right, not see defenders and throwing the pick. Teams have figured out our scramble drills in the RZ and have them well covered.

It's maddening.

And that QB sneak play in our own EZ WTF?

Even taking a safety would have been better. Anything but giving up a TD.

That is on the coaching staff. Just the dumbest play calling.

Quite a few hot takes on this thread.

But the game does seem to big for this staff sometimes. And when things start to become a pattern (consistently losing games like this, consistently giving up plays like the 4th & 18), it's concerning.

Right now, it's just 2 bad games. Let's see how they respond.  If we go on a run here, I can forgive some clueless moments.  But if we're just middlin' over the next month or so, the concern is real.
