Scott7975
This would have been the better year for the "it might be chilly" video lol. Stay warm out there guys. Im too old for this anymore. Keep moving even if its marching your legs in place. Standing still is the worst thing you can do. Keep your ears covered hands covered, scarfs, all that jazz. Don't be a cool hero. Make sure your boots aren't tight with whatever quantities and qualities of socks you wear. Loose boots that allow your feet to move are good. Chemical toe and handwarmers work well. Amen to the bolded. Cotton lacks the ability to 'wick' away the moisture that invariably will be generated. As an outer layer you may be OK with cotton, but keep silk, wools, and wicking synthetics (waffle weaves work well) as the base layers. This includes socks. 1

I live in South Dakota and I've attended local football games in weather like this. If you are chilly walking around on your way to the stadium, you are going to get very cold when you're sitting still in the stands. Fingers and toes need special attention. My game plan would be something like this: Torso: compression shirt, t-shirt, t-shirt, long-sleeve t-shirt, long-sleeve t-shirt, light pullover, fleece pullover, parka. avoid cotton for base layers at least. Legs: insulated running tights (or long underwear if you're not a runner), fleece-lined jeans Feet: light running socks, another pair of heavier tube-style socks, insulated boots Hands: light liner-style gloves, heavy insulated mittens (mittens are infinitely warmer than gloves) Head: the warmest thing that covers your head, plus a gaiter or something for your face* * Be advised that this will probably freeze by the end of the first quarter, so there's that. BearNorth
Probably splitting hairs here, I was at the game with my dad, Playoff vs. the Pats in 1963, Bills lost 26-8, the bleacher seats in the rockpile were formed by pressing a garbage can into the foot of snow that had fallen the week of the game, pro football reference says that was a 21 degree game, wind chill of 9, humidity of 77% wind 11 mph. I think the thought of wood plank bleachers in the rockpile might move that into contention. Last I knew 21 is colder than 22.

zow2
It's funny, the board acts like we've never experienced cold before. The good news is that the winds will be light. Don't listen to any forecast that mentions gusts. The winds for Orchard Park in January will be calm. On the flip side, it's just unfortunate that this is the best Bills club since the early 90's....and we have to deal not only with Belichek/NE, but the weather will likely impact the game too. Just catching the ball and not fumbling will take serious concentration.

In the upper Midwest this is average temps or maybe even a little above average. Land is a poor insulator, the lake keeps us much warmer than surrounding areas inland. DasNootz
I was at the Raiders game as a kid. I remember the drunks in front of us each smuggling in a 12 pack in their sleeves and pants - It was genius level at the time. My memories were my dad buying us coffee to hold between our legs, using the carboard carriers to lift our feet off the snow, and "Midnight Train to Georgia" playing when it was all said and done. Guess what - we survived. I still have all of my fingers and toes, and it's one of my favorite memories with my dad.

The crew on ESPN (Get UP) this morning keeps pointing out that Josh Allen has very poor numbers in cold weather... Allen's QBR below 32 degrees is the 2nd lowest of any QB in the last 15 years, only ahead of Tim Tebow. Anyway, a good chance for Josh to squash that narrative. Extremely small sample size and most of those involve wind conditions which are much more of a factor in the passing game. Don't be fooled---when it's -5 wind chill at kick off, and worse than that as the game goes on, it will be more difficult to throw and catch as well. The ball gets slippery and is hard as a brick. QBs have to adjust their hand position to throw in those temps, which is not ideal. It isn't going to be like throwing in a 40 mph wind, but throwing won't be normal. You guys are animals. The coldest experience I have ever had in that stadium is New Orleans at Buffalo, December 10, 1989. Google says the weather was: 26 degrees, relative humidity 68%, wind 13 mph, wind chill 15 My dad and I were sitting outside a few rows in front of my dad's employer's box for the first half. I was well bundled up (I would have been 18 years old) but was FREEZING MY ASS OFF the entire game. At halftime, my dad said "let's go inside the box just to warm up" and I think that literally saved my life. We went in there, talked to some folks, ate chicken fingers and other foods that were laid out, and ended up staying in there for the entire second half. If we hadn't had that warmth to retreat to, I would have been seriously cold by the end of the game. It was snowing all game and they were sort of "snow blowing" snow off the yard markers during TV time outs so you could see where the heck the ball was. We lost too! It's going to be a LOT colder than that on Saturday night which really puts it in perspective for me. Good luck to everyone out there! You will need it. Nextmanup
Question for those who have been recently to the stadium: Is there a heated public area you can retreat to in order to warm up on a cold day? The last time I was there (every game I've been to) there was NOT such a place. You don't think about that until you are there and freezing your ass off and realize there isn't a place to go get warm in. Have any of the stadium improvements over the years created such a place? damj
I was at the coldest game. Just like OP, our beer froze. We had to put it next to a fire to thaw it out. This tailgate will be toasty. We're bringing a box trailer, generator, electric heaters, propane heater, canopy, fire pit/wood and a TV. Again ... layers. I like to keep one final layer I put on just before going into the game. I also change my socks before going in the game. New trick I heard is to spray your feet with anti-perspirant to keep them from sweating. Make sure your hands, feet and head are covered. I use a balaclava for my head/neck. I have good gloves, but I also am bringing a muff and a battery hand warmer. Some regular chemical hand warmers too. Be careful with electric clothing. It's prohibited in the stadium. This is us at the 94 game. 1
