“He’s Going the Distance”: the race for the AFC East crown, 2020

So the Bills currently have a 2-game lead in the division... although they probably have a tougher schedule than the Patriots from here on out, by virtue of not having played Seattle or Kansas City yet.

When was the last time we’ve had a 2-game lead in the division?   The late 90s???

They are not losing to the broncos, with or without cam. That will be the only other game he misses.

If they turn the ball over like they did tonight they might. Plus there's no guarantee that Cam will be ready for the 49ers game on the 25th.

Like any team, how healthy the players remain throughout the season could determine how far they go

That tales on special meaning this year.

Unfortunately.

Cam Newton is A symptomatic. If he passes all test he could be back as soon as the Denver game.

Week 16 1995 season.

Got to sweep the Pats this year. Yes I know the Pats are still strong defensively and Cam is having a turn around season. But if there was any year where expectations to turn things around against the Pats were justified it is this year. Yes the Bills could likely split against the Pats and win the division. But the Bills need to avoid a mental trap with the Pats. The Bills need to avoid feeling like they are the permanent little brother. They lost twice last year in winnable games and a tough split this year could only reinforce that.

Nothing of value at WR, but I’d love to have this DL now!

Without Cam that 2 game lead could easily increase.

Usually I hate seeing my teams take the path of least resistance. Our best against your best, period.  But it's been soooooo long since a division title I'll take it any way possible.

Honestly KC has looked beatable for much of this year...I don't fear them.

What is good is the Bills play the Chief's very well all the time... Just we never have a starting QB in the game when we play them.

This team reminds me of the '95 Bills. All around a lot of talent on both sides of the ball.

The 2020 version has much better WR's/ CB/S  but weaker RB/ DL/ LB's.

If the defense gets back to last years level, we could make a really deep playoff run and win the AFC east.

The Bills defenses in the early 90s weren’t highly ranked in terms of yards and points; they too got gashed on occasion, but they had a lot of playmakers who made the big sack or int when it mattered.  This defense can be that kind of unit, I think.  Of course, it would help to have a Bruce Smith and a Biscuit...

We don't need a defense that good to even win a Super Bowl. Offense is what is going to win in this league. When was the last time a SB winner even had a top 10 D?

Most times they are high teens to upper 20s in D

I feel good about the KC game after watching them last night. If our defense can do anything remotely close to what NE did last night, we'll win that game.

All comes down to that defense.

Agreed, my gut tells me that we win the division and its a one year rental.  NE led the league in opt outs, would get a softer schedule next year and with all their players back, a year to digest Brady leaving and a lot of young talent...they will likely be the favorite next year.  I think we absolutely have to win this year to get over that mental trap, because next year they will be back to form.

I think you're right, but I'm not sure the Bills are built for that kind of game.  To beat a Reid offense we need inside pressure.  To beat a Spagnuola defense you have to successfully power run.  The Chiefs are built to pass, get a lead and then blitz you until you collapse.  NE's roster is built to beat them, not sure we are though.  We might be able to go score for score though, I'm hoping for that.

That's the point I'm making. If the defense can get remotely close to what NE did last night, I have confidence that our offense can score 28-35

Same with Seattle. Many people have that as a loss for Bills but their D isn't all that great. Wilson is one the best in the game and he will make plays but so will Allen against their D. Miami was in their game with Seattle until the Hawks sealed it with a score late in the 4th Q.
